Hi guys! The Cardiology III stethoscope is a fantastic one! It is the one I use. It has an adult side and a pediatric side. It does have a diaphragm and a bell, but the difference between them is how hard you push down on your patient. I have never had a problem with it and I have always been able to hear what I need. Several of us have this stethoscope and we are all very pleased.

Hi Everyone, Congratulations on getting in to Delta's nursing program. I am about to finish my first year (final is on Monday)...I am half way done with the program!! Thought I would try to answer some of your questions. You do have to get a new TB, even if you just had one in July, September, etc. The hospitals require it. You will have to get one every semester. And it has to be a two-step, meaning you go one week, and then again the next week. The shoes do not matter if they are "nursing shoes", but they do have to be all white tennis shoes. I do recommend Nurse Mates shoes. I got mine at Life Uniforms They are light and very comfortable. I started out with regular tennis shoes and had bought the nurse mates by third week on the clinical floor. The ones I have do not have any laces, they are just slip ons, which makes it nice when urine or blood gets splashed on them because they are easy to wipe off. Ask for a stethoscope for Christmas. You will want a decent one. Mine is a Litman and I love it. Oh and sign up for the Eng33A. It is worth it, not only will you meet your fellow students before the first official day of school, but you will possibly meet some instructors and there is a computer program they let you play with that is extremely valuable. Welcome to the Delta ADN program!!

OK...the scoring is now completely different then what it was for my application. My score now would be 62.....I think....so stay positive!

Don't be discouraged! It is all dependent on what your groups score is!

Just looked it up and my score was 72.5

I either had 78 or 82....cant remember. It really depends on how many people applied and what their scores are. Good Luck to you!

So far I am very happy with the program. I have had excellent instructors. They do want you to succeed. The workload so far has not been too bad. Although I am changing my rotation next week and I know its going to get alot busier for me, nursing 4 is typically pretty hard from what I hear, 10-hr clinical days two days a week, but that's OK!....I still can't believe I am in the program, and even more exciting at the end of this semester I will be half way done!!!

Congratulations to all of you that have received your email to submit your documentation. I am a second semester nursing student at Delta. I remember getting my email and I was so excited!! I did hand deliver my information. There will basically be a basket in admissions to put it in. I was an alternate, but got my call during Thanksgiving week a year ago already!! It is a great program, I am very happy there. Good luck to you all....and be patient!! I know, easier said than done!!

Regarding the Skyscape app: It is a very expensive app! (over $100) And it is only for one year then you have to pay for the subscription again. We had a couple of girls in my group with Skyscape and a couple with Medscape (Medscape is free) and there was never any information that Medscape did not have. I recommend saving your money and starting out with Medscape and a drug book. I heard that some hospitals will not even let you have a phone or a PDA. As you get along in the program you will learn what works best for you.

My shoes are slip on....and I love them! A PDA is not necessary...I happen to have an iPhone, which does come in pretty handy...you can google anything! If you do get and/or have an iPhone a few programs I recommend are Medscape (free app, register for this through webMD then sign in on your phone) MDezLabs (free app) quick reference for normal lab values. and RN Mentor ati NCLEX RN. This is a $20 app, but it will give you many NCLEX type questions. I use this anytime I have free time. I mostly used google! I would recommend a Drug book and I would for sure recommend a nursing care plan book. But those will all be available at the bookstore.

CONGRATULATIONS to all who got into Delta!! I will be a second semester student there and I look forward to meeting all of you at the Welcome Tea. Thought I would answer some of the questions that I can.... Uniforms: They are by Dove, and there is only one style you can order. You will be able to try some on at the school. The tops run big, but the bottoms run WAY small! They are pricey, but if you can afford two tops, I would recommend them. You will get hot in the hospital and possibly soiled (urine, feces, blood, etc.) Shoes: I started with Avias basic white tennis shoe. Hurt to be on my feet for six+ hours on them. Also they have laces and its a pain when something (like urine, feces or blood) gets on them to get them cleaned. I bought a pair of nurse mates from Life uniform. They have no laces and they do have a cute heart on them....they are the most comfortable shoes. Many of classmates ended up buying these shoes. (About $70) I recommend a clip board and a pocket protector....oh and about 20 black pens! You will write a lot at your clinical site. I also recommend taking the English 33A class that is one week before classes start. It will help with your anxiety about the unknown of nursing school. Also there will be past students (myself included) who will come and talk to you and answer any questions that we can. Time to celebrate....hard work will begin in about six weeks!!!

You need either Political Science or a History class. I recommend that you meet with a counselor ASAP and get your transcripts submitted for evaluation. I did my pre-req's at Modesto and I turned in my transcripts for evaluation in January and I still do not have an answer on which classes I will need to take to finish with my degree. Some classes are not comparable and they will make you take them at Delta. (I know more info to stress over!!) Sorry!! But better to get ahead of the game right? To get to Delta, take I-5 to March Lane. Go East on March Lane to Pershing. Turn left on Pershing. The next stop light will be at Delta College street, turn right. Drive around till you get to the Student Services building. You will turn in your stuff there....Unless they have instructed you to turn it into the Nursing Department.....

I came up with 72% without your bonus points. So you should be in good shape!

We were ranked. I do not remember what my score was, but the criteria is different this time anyway. I was alternate #2. I believe that 5 of the alternates got in....Hope that helps!

I want to say Congratuations to all of you that got your initial email. But do not consider yourselves in just yet...you are conditionally accepted. I too got this email last semester. I turned in all of my information and when they we were ranked, I was an alternate. I did eventually get in, but my phone call did not come until mid December. (They let people know they were in at the beginning of November). So yes be excited, but be realistic until you know where you place. I am not trying to be a downer by any means....This is a very good sign!! Again Congratulations! I hope to see you at the Welcome Tea Reception.
