  1. Oh no! That's awful. I am going to the April 3rd (hopefully) since the March one was cancelled. That's a bummer. I hope you got some good ideas on housing and commute times. I've been in the area several times, but never to the school, specifically. Seems to be a lot of housing close by, I will look into the ones you suggested, thank -you! Have you taken your TEAS V yet?
  2. Hi everyone! Taking the TEAS can be stressful. I just took it and received a 91.3%. This is the best advice I can give: 1). USE the ATI study guide. 2). TAKE THE PRACTICE EXAM. At least one. And if you do poorly on the practice exam, it's OK! It is much more difficult than the actual exam. Whatever areas they tell you to study (based off what you missed on practice), study them, beyond the study guide. The study guide is a brief overview which is enough for most sections, but sometimes you need to hop online and get a better understanding of some concepts. Some tips: - Know how to solve work rate problems (Purple Math website is great for this!) - Know the basics, the ATI manual covers what you need to know, and you'll need to know the entire math section. It's important to know it well so that you don't spend a lot of time during the test trying to figure it out. That section seems to go the quickest and I ran the clock down to the last second. You don't want to time out, so practice, practice, practice! - Know Meiosis and Mitosis inside and out. Be able to describe the process. - There was a lot of Life Science questions that I would have imagined, so don't forget to brush up. - If you take both exams and you see similar questions, there's a reason and be sure to know that subject well. - The ATI guide does not cover human biology to the extent of what they expect you to know on the test. This is probably the only section that I felt wasn't covered in the ATI manual. It's a huge body of knowledge so I studied what I missed on the pratice exam and was able to answer most questions in this area based off my additional study, outside of the manual. I can't say much more because I need to keep the integrity of the test content!
  3. Yes, the practice is definitely tough! I scored 72% and 72% on the practice, studied my butt off and then got a 91.3% on the actual exam! The key is to study, study the questions you miss! It makes the actual exam much easier.
  4. Did this happen to you? If this is for real, I would definitely address it with the Testing Center and if there is no resolution, I would contact ATI.
  5. Hello Future UTHSC-SA Nurses! I know the deadline isn't until December, but I figured I could start the thread for all those preparing to apply so that we can begin the angst about getting accepted! Also, I am moving to Texas from Washington State so I have a lot of nerves about a move like that and could use a thread to ask questions on housing, bus-lines, etc., etc. I just took my TEAS V and am about to complete my Psych 200, then it's all waiting from here on out! I've already called the school several times to ask clarifying questions, so I may have an answer if you have a question! I'm hoping to fly down for the April 3 information session as well. So, are there any others out there?
  6. Has anyone attended Morehead University in Kentucky? I'm actually from Washington State, but we are relocating to KY so I've been researching schools. I just started the application process and I'm sure I'll get in, but I would like some more information on the school. Was the program quality? Hands-on and active? Not just book work. How are the professors and cohort? I feel like I'm moving to another country, feeling like a foreigner! Also, I'm 29 and was curious if it's mainly younger (early 20's). I'm afraid of standing out like a sore thumb. LOL. Thanks for your input!
  7. Well, I guess I'll put my two cents in! Definately, most definately, wages will no longer be as competitive. Look at all the other countries/nations that have socialized healthcare. The pay is highly regulated. The point of socializing is to bring everyone on the same pay level, meaning it is very likely for wages to stagger, or more be taken for taxes, in order to equalize everyone. Remember, right now, healthcare is competitive, in a some-what free market (lots of gov't regulations, but still "free market"), so supply and demand means something. With the reform, supply and demand will no longer bring about the competitive wages. Regardless of political views, or party politics, the economy works the same. Under the new reform, the care people receive will be regulated. They can't just choose when/where/who, like they can now. This is true for other countries with similar healthcare. So, there's no evidence that care will increase. More than likely, it will decrease. There will be a lot of red tape and steps to go through to receive specific types of care and care will decrease for elderly. Look at Medicare, it's gov't run and it's one of the worst systems. It's kind of hard to trust anything different will occur.
  8. Congrats to you! I am always joyous to see people use their potential and go for their dreams! So often, fears cripple people and they end up with regrets. It's so rewarding to get to the other side! Best wishes to you!
