  1. Thanks for the replies. I actually contacted the BON, board of RT, Board of LVN and board of OT and they seem to give me the same answer, which is they will do an individual review based on recency of the crime, severity and time elapse..etc but I was reading this publication about this applicant applying for a license and the applicant gets denied due to "statutory provisons" that the board follows. Here's the link, http://www.bot.ca.gov/public/ota1853_2008_10_21_charging_document.pdf I'm in a dilemma because I got accepted at santa ana college for the OTA program for Fall of 2015! ;( and my other option is private school in irvine which is $40k for the 16 month program. I'm just stressing out it will either cost me $40k in loans to find out if i will get licensed by the board or I will waste 4-5 years in the community college only to find out if i will get licensed or not. =/ I emailed the california board of OT and I havent got a response yet. Btw, I did a livescan for personal record review and it showed my felony record.
  2. Hi, I just want to inquire about the licensing and examination. My big concern is I have a juvenile record when I was 17 years old. It was a felony ( assault w/ deadly weapon charge) but I was not tried as an adult. I was detained at the Los Pradino juvenile detention center for 2 months before being released on probation and had to complete community service. I completed all the necessary requirements that the court ordered me to do such as probation, community service and I've also graduated with a High school Diploma at Walnut high school. I am now 28 years old and it's been 11 years since and I have stayed out of trouble. I have completed all my prerequisites to apply for the OTA (Occupational therapy assistant) program at Santa Ana college but it is a 3 year waiting list to get in. I plan to take my chances and apply at Stanbridge college which currently has a "developing program status" from the board of OT but the program cost $40k. I really want to get into the health field especially as OTA because I feel this is where I would excel the most in helping people in general and the satisfaction I get with helping patients. I'm just concerned about my prior juvenile record if it will automatically disqualify me from taking the board exam and ultimately receiving a license. Is there any relative chance that I will be able to take the exam and granted a license. Any info, will greatly be appreciated. By the way, is there anyway I can do an early determination review prior to entering the program and graduation so at least I would know my chances. Sorry I know this is a different topic but any info help guys. Thanks and godbless.!
  3. hey guys,! That's very encouraging of you fishie to give some of us some hope and to keep pushing forward. I'm actually taking the nrs class right now too and I have professor fernandez. You are right!, she is a GREAT professor, shes always encouraging her students to do well, what to study for / what not do study for, she would give us hints and tips and she would take time to answer everyones questions regarding medical field...etc out of all the professors ive had at mtsac and even in high school I think ms fernandez is an amazing teacher/person. Hi jazy, I hope you and your daugther is doing well in the class! we are about Halfway through the semester and I'm also getting worried about my standing since there are a lot of students in my class are doing well. One advise i can give you that helped me alot is dont try to memorize but read it and understand it, not just once but 2,3,4,5x until you are able to explain it to another person. also, always double, triple check your answers on your exam before turning it in bc many students gets careless and miss couple points. hope to keep in touch! =)
  4. ok, I'll definately take the lvn route to a different school, so anyone knows if i'll get in trouble if i dont transfer my previous college transcript? Someone told me army has lvn program?? is that transferrable most colleges?. thanks
  5. Thanks guys for the quick advices. My current school and most school I inquired in have a 1 retake policy, meaning a student can only retake one of the 4 science courses required for the RN program once. My only option is to find a community college that offers vocational nurse and then do the bridge program after that. But my only concern is should I declare my old transcript to the new school? Since I have low GPA and failed science courses at my current college I dont know if I would get in trouble (academically) if I were to start all over to a new school without stating my previous college. any clues? My other option is the RT or psychiatric program. I just need one more math class to apply and there is up to 1 year wait, but I think only psychiatric program has the bridge program to RN. I can either apply and try to get either one and then try to get into CPC (certified professional coder) at the same time. OR just stick with LVN route and hope for the best?
  6. Thanks scrapworking! I went to see an advisor at my school earlier and she didn't seem too excited after seeing my transcript and she told me that since I failed my microbiology class and retook human anatomy that i have no chance in RN program for that school but I may have a chance to get into Respiratory and psychiatric program. I am two classes shy from getting into the RT program but do they have bridge prog-RN program for that? My other option is to attend a private school for LVN but the cost would be around $24k, or I can go to military for 4 years and then when i come out I can go for that LVN program and have the military pay for it. any advice would help? thanks so much.
  7. I'm thinking about that path, but would I get in trouble if I start all over to a different college without transferring my transcript?
  8. Hi guys, I'm very interested to an LVN and eventually to RN but my problem is I have a low cumulative gpa of 2.21 and failed my microbiology, C grade for physiology, and retook Human anatomy and received a C. Now my school won't let me get in the program, so is there any path I can take such as going to a different community college and starting all over withough transferring my gpa (is that bad?) or maybe going to a private school? pls advice. Thanks,
