craigslist for your city. that's where you may find many private clinic positions (not affiliated with a larger health system). or do a search of "pediatrics offices" in your city and i'm sure something will come up. these were things i did when i was job hunting :) good luck to you!

Hi PiedPiperRN: I've been an RN since 06 and in 2011 I was back on the market searching for a job in a sea of new grads and other very experienced nurses. I did land a job (hospital) and I start this month so I feel very blessed and equally lucky. I have some tips that you may or may not have heard, so I apologize for any repeats :) -tailor your cover letter/resume for EACH position. it's tedious, but use the target words that are in the job description in your cover letter/resume because i've heard that a lot of the larger systems use programs to search for those words to weed out applicants. -don't be afraid to call the HR recruiter for the jobs you're applying for. if nothing else, they will recognize your name and will at least look at your application/profile while you are on the phone with them. (i did this weekly!!) -look on craigslist for those odd jobs like being a shot nurse or school nurse. they also seem to post lots of private clinic RN jobs there. -look into temp jobs: i have a friend who graduated this past summer, couldn't find a job, but found a temp RN job with a hospital where she was trained on the charting system and her job was to be a resource for other nurses/doctors as the system went live. by doing this, she now has connections and will apply for an internship position that opens up this year. -look for a job with the state corrections dept. it may not be ideal unless you want to be in mental health or corrections, but it's a way to start working, get experience, and get paid. (the friend i mentioned with the temp job got a job with state corrections and another new grad friend started there back in november) i think that's it for now :) feel free to private message me if you have any Qs or anything...hopefully this post doesn't violate any rules - i didn't list any names this time! :) Good luck - lilwbprincess

CLIMB: American Heart Association | PCC I have taken BLS and ACLS classes here with PCC - both initial certification and renewals. Good instructors and content; seems like there are a lot of health care professionals that go through PCC. If you need ACLS for your job, you will have to take the initial 2-day class if you haven't already. If you need to renew your ACLS, at the end of the renewal class, they usually offer an optional BLS renewal at the end of class also. Hope this helps and good luck!

i recently joined on with Advantage Nurse Staffing (through a close friend and through nurses who have gone through them previously). i am still finishing the final paperwork stuff, but they do per diems and 13 wk contracts and it sounds like their nurses are usually fairly happy. they're located in Vancouver and they've got a website with contact info. the president ---- was the one to meet me and talk to me about it and he bought me a coffee :) he says he does this with every perspective nurse. i've also heard decent things about Integrated Healthcare Solutions, but not by someone i know, just online.

Oh one more thing, for those of you that interviewed for this summer internship, did many of you have letters of rec? I've been a nurse for almost 5 years now and I have ZERO letters (never been asked for or needed) and I don't know if I will have time to get a a couple before the interview. Thanks for any help

I didn't apply for this internship, but I had posted that I was interviewing for the medical/ace unit -- I did not get an offer, but the interview went well from what I can tell and what I was told! I just got an email today for an invitation to interview for the OR internship there...anyone else apply for that one as well?

Hi jenhduncan - I am in the process of finishing paperwork to start agency work as well! It will be my first time dealing with an agency and I'm hoping to get some per diem work. What area are you from and what area will you be doing per diem or a contract assignment? I'm in Portland and am hoping to do step-down units or surgical (still being worked out). I hope someone replies to your post - I'd love to hear tips also :) I'm a little bit nervous about the whole thing...only because it's different I guess.

Does anyone have any experience in working with with Integrated Healthcare Solutions? I am thinking about going with this agency, but would love to hear others experiences with them. I have not done agency nursing before. Thanks!

Foley6 - I'm not an agency RN, but I hope this helps: With 3.5 years of experience trauma stepdown and peds clinic, I was offered base rate of 34.18 for staff RN at a hospital (unionized, so they have pay steps). KellT1203 -Did you see Legacy has a brand new merer with Versant and is opening a new grad only internship? Portland and Vancouver-based Hospitals and Clinics - Legacy Health Check it out. I worked at a Legacy hospital for 2 years and I loved my team members. Good luck.

dadah_vxr -- i don't believe they will hold a spot for someone who is not licensed yet. i think that's how it is for all the health systems around here. KiyomiRN -- well i've been in the internship since Jan and my experience on the unit has been positive. they're supportive and are used to teaching (it is a teaching hospital) so they are used to teaching new grads as well as RNs new to ICU (which would be in my case). with the internship comes classes that are a part of the critical care consortium - many of the area hospitals are a part of this and are trying to form a bridge in learning about critical care. it's a great program. as far as cross-training into critical care, it's been a good internship so far and you would get a lot of support and learning opportunities. i worked step-down and at a clinic before doing this so it's all new to me too! lilmomaluvinlife -- hi! i don't think i can private message either, not really sure how this site works to be honest. anyway, it's been good and i'm glad you applied! i am on the neurosciences unit. it's a lot of work and is a combo of classroom/consortium/clincal time. in the internship itself (for all the icus) i think theres a total of 10 of us, with a good mix of experienced RNs new to icu and new grad RNs. i remember responding to your post, but can't remember if you are a new grad?? either way, it is tailored to transition you into icu. it's good; a lot of work and stressful days (as with anything) but all us interns support each other. feel free to ask me more Q! i don't get on here often enough, but i will keep an eye out.

I'm in an RN-BSN program right now. Have a burns assignment for pathophysiology. Can't seem to find the answer for this Q: What is the optimal environmental temperature to keep a burn patient's room at? And where may I find this information? I have looked in my pathophy book, my critical care book, and even the ABLS website (but I think I will dig deeper there) and I cannot find the answer. Any burns nurse know this answer and where I can find it??? Thanks! NeuroICU nurse :)
