  1. Hi! I just got my acceptance letter for the Fall 2016 DNP-FNP program. We should start a Facebook group to keep in touch
  2. JenMacBSN... did you end up starting your program at Bradley? If so how is it? I'm applying for the Fall 16 semester
  3. KayleeRN1... have you heard anything yet. ..I have not...
  4. Nothing yet :-( Worried I didn't make the cut... I am a second degree student but I only have 2 years of experience as a nurse.Did you hear back? If so did they call or email you?
  5. Hello... just wondering if there are any other people who submitted applications for OU's NP program?
  6. KatieMI... what online program did you choose?
  7. I am currently applying to both online and local universities for Fall 2016 FNP programs, and weighing the pros/ cons of each option. I was wondering what others think of the online option. For me personally, online works better with my schedule (work/ family balance), but I have concerns that online schools won't offer as much support when it comes to finding preceptors... and what about ability to find work once we graduate... has anyone found that it was harder to find employment because their degree was from an online university?
  8. I recently graduated from an accelerated second degree nursing program (ASD-BSN). I have been working in the OR since graduation in May 2014. I would like to pursue my FNP. I have spoken to several graduate program advisors in the Southwest MI area, and have been told that I need several years of med-surg experience and the average undergrad GPA is 3.8. Unfortunately, due to the concentration/ intensity of my accelerated program, I graduated with a 3.34. My first degree is in engineering and my graduating GPA was 3.9. Are there any programs out there that will accept my low GPA/ OR experience... or does anyone have any suggestions on how I can improve my opportunity to get accepted into a program? BTW, I really enjoy the OR, and hate the thought of leaving for a lateral nursing position in med-surg just to gain experience. Any advise is much appreciated!
  9. Our Cohort (May '13) started with 55 students. I believe it varies from cohort to cohort, but the average is 50.
  10. Okay... so I know that we are not supposed to hear back from OU until the 15th... but I was checking the mail today and received a letter from the university. I was thinking that it was just something informational... but it was MY ACCEPTANCE LETTER... WHOOT, WHOOT!!!!! After 3 painful years of after work nighttime pre-req classes, I got into the May 2013 Cohort!!!!! ;-) Anyone else here back yet????
  11. Hey Blue0101/ SSMom, I have already taken Informatics and Patho. Im debating taking Pharm this fall, but like Ryba, I have heard that it makes the most sense to wait and take this right before your program starts (which would be Winter semester for us). I just hate waiting until the last minute... I would prefer to have all my classes, physical, BLS, ect completed in advance, so that I am not scrambling in April to complete everything. Of course, we need to get accepted first, lol. I'm starting to get a little impatient, waiting for our notice as to whether or not we are accepted.... and I know we still have over 3 weeks of wait time!!!! Does anyone have any idea how many applicants there were for the May 13 Cohort... and how many openings OU has?
  12. The interview was short, but good... but I tend to talk fast when I am nervous, lol. I was the first interview scheduled for the day, arrived early and was seen right away, so I actually left the building 10 minutes after my interview was officially scheduled to start .. most of the discussion was based around my goal statement, why I wanted to go into nursing, what did I think day to day nursing encompassed, where did I see myself in 5 years, would I have the support from friends/ family as I went through the program as it will be very time consuming, ect... My GPA didn't come up...it is pretty good, but not perfect. My undergrad is a 3.96 and my pre-req's are a 3.78. I had a B in Micro, due to the fact that I missed several classes and in class assignments, because I was traveling out of the country for work and could not reschedule. I did make sure to explain that, but my interviewer did not seem overly concerned. She stressed that OU is looking for a well adjusted/ rounded student and grades are only a part of that. That is one of the major things that attracted me to their program... the holistic approach! So... now we wait to hear back;-) I think we officially hear back by mid July, right?
  13. I would finish your degree, and start taking your nursing pre-reqs at the same time. Start looking into Accelerated Second Degree BSN programs and what the pre-req's are. Apply to the programs as soon as your degree is complete... the wait list is about a year. Some schools allow you to apply if you have a degree and a portion of the pre-reqs completed. You can finish the rest during the year you are waiting to start.. Michigan has several second degree programs, through U of M, Michgan State, Oakland University and Wayne State... to name a few... Most programs are 12 - 18 months long.
  14. Hey blue0101... Yes, I also received an email and immediately responded!. I interviewed this passed Tuesday. Now the wait begins ;-) Good Luck, if you haven't interviewed yet!!!
  15. Hi Kass1kk, We should be hearing something soon, right? I received a letter at the end of April from ------------ confirming that all of my pre-req grades had been received, and that I would hear from OU in June/ July (if chosen to move forward) to schedule an interview.
  16. Good Luck... did you interview yet??? If so, how did it go??? I held off until submitting my application until Summer 2013 cohort, because of a scheduling conflict, but I am watching the winter cohort's activities closely. I figure that this will give me a better idea of what to expect.
  17. If you already have an associates... why not look at a BSN degree at somewhere like OU? You might only have 2 years until completion, which is the same amount of time it will take you to get through the associates program at OCC.
  18. Hi Everyone. For the past 2 years I have watched this board, trying to gain knowledge on the admission process for OU. Finally, in one month, I will have completed all my pre-reqs, and will submit my final grades, in order to have my application processed. I need to complete my goal statement, too ;-) There are many older OU threads...but I thought I would start a new one for those of us who will be interviewing (hopefully) in 2012. Please reply if there is anyone else out there who will be going through the process this winter! Looking forward to meeting you!
  19. Okay... this may be a dumb question... but do you get paid for residency or intern/ extern positions? Just wondering... I am leaving my full time job to enter into a ABSN program. I know that jobs are scarce for new grads, and I have saved enought to cover my time in school and several months after... but if I am required to do a residency without pay, I need to do some additional financial planning...
  20. Hey... separate subject, than posted above. Is anyone taking Informatics online this fall? Katrina White okayed me to take this early (before acceptance). I am in the class that starts this September, online. I think this is the first semester it is offered... so I am a little worried about the "unknown" aspect of things.
  21. Okay... this is a bit off topic, so forgive me... but I work full time and I have been stressed about taking a year off of work. I recently started selling home products (31-gifts) to see if I could supplement my income enough to be comfortable... so far so good. I have at least a year to work on this, as I am applying for the May 2013 semester... but if any one in interested in making extra cash, doing something that wont interfere with school send me a private message and I will give you the details ;-)
  22. Josette19 - I only have Org. Chem left to take this fall too. Did you decide where you are going? I am at OCC-HL, in the night class. I am also taking Informatics this semester through OU. GinaNightengale - Thank you for your feedback ;-) Good Luck in the program. Do you think your GPA played any role in things? My current GPA is 3.86... and I still have Org. left to take... I am hoping that this is an acceptable GPA.. I know that they say OU takes a holistic approach to admissions, but with as competative as the nursing programs are these days, it is only natural that GPA would be used as a tie-breaker when there is a large pool of qualified candidates. Did you have any extra -curricular service/ volunteer experience... and if so, do you think this helped? I have approx. 100 hours of ER volunteer time with Crittenton, I was involved in many different service organizations in college (years ago), and I still participate with Project Linus, and a pediatric hospice group in St. Louis when we go home to visit over the holidays (we help hand out Christmas gifts and Easter Baskets to the affected families). Even though I would do these activities regardless of whether I was applying to nursing school or not, I am hoping that this will strengthen my position.
  23. IndyElmer, I don't think that allnurses.com lets you discuss specifics about course content and professors. However, I have been watching the OU threads for about 1 1/2 years (as I complete my pre-reqs)... a lot of the cohorts set up private facebook groups. You might ask to join one of these groups and ask the members for their feedback!
  24. The Hill is also a good place. A good rule of thumb is to stay west of Kingshighway, and don't veture too far north of Forest Park Parkway... the surrounding neighborhoods in these areas get a little rough, and if your not familiar with the area, it is hard to tell which is good and which is bad. I lived in a 4 family flat off of Columbia and Southwest Avenue as a single girl and loved the area ;-)
  25. Hi Ryba... the wait list has generally been a year for the OU ABSN program. So if you are applying in Dec 2011, then you could expect to be accepted into either the December 2012 or May 2013 Cohorts. In previous threads, people did mention being bumped to an earlier cohort, based on last minute openings, provided they had their 5 additional D and E pre-req's completed (Micro, Lifespan, Informatics, Patho, ect). What class are you taking this fall? I have my organic chem class at OCC- HL, and then I am also applying in Dec. ;-) Because of my personal schedule constraints, I am actually hoping to get into the May 2013 Cohort (should I be fortunate enough to get accepted!!!)
