  1. Hi,I hope this information gets to you on time. I graduated from the evening program few years ago (2 year program in Medford) and worked 4 days a week. Classes run from 5pm-10pm and only 3 day per week, clinicals are arranged according the hours required for the particular course/semester but you will have clinicals during the week and one Saturday a month only. I recommend the evening program because if you have to work you will be able study much more. The day program its very intense and stressful unless you dont have to work it will be very difficult for you. Your education is like an investment, make sure that this is what you want and commit yourself to attend classes and do your class work, there is no much time for social life. The program is a bit expensive because there is no financial aid available therefore, make sure you study and pass all the modules, no refund is granted if you fail a course and you cannot repeat the next semester either. There are students from different age groups. I wish you the best in this journey that you are contemplating, hope you make a wise decision soon, seats are very limited.
  2. Its amazing the way some people have the ability to use their arrogance and negativity to discourage others. I been an lpn for few years but I feel very competent in what I do. I consider myself having much more exposure to clinical situations than some of the rns I work with, however I aknowledge that they have some more theorical and more clinical procedures taugh while in nursing school but, during and after orientation they still asking questions to whom? THE LPNS ON THE FLOOR!!! that knows where everything is and how things works, the ones that most of the times knows the policies and procedures and what the patients needs are. So having said that, I only conclude by advise you not be discouraged by any comments you will continue to hear, you will find many in your path as a nurse just do your job to the best of your ability and take proud in it.
  3. Hi, the salary rate depends on which state and area you work. In NJ depending on location the salary range for a new lpn from $18.50-$20.00 an hour with benefits. If you work per-diem you get paid more. State and County facilities pay a little less because of the many benefits they provide. I work for the county and make $21/hr with good benefits. As stated, it all depends the state and location within the state you are in. Piry
  4. Hi, sorry that you feel the way you do about your career. Mind to ask, which location you are in? Possibly if we know, we can give you some assistance in where to go and apply. When you enter a career in nursing, which is very difficult, stressful but also rewarding you never feel it was a waste of time. Whatever you invest in your education is not lost, advance in your career ladder for personal/professional growth its not a waste. Things are difficult everywhere but dont loose faith and hope. God's willing you will find a good job that will afford you to pay on time your bills. Keep in touch, let us know how things are. Sincerely, Piry (NJ/FL)
  5. Hi itsmejuli, may I asked in what college of Tampa Bay area are you attending to that you will finish with your rn in 3 semesters? I am trying to find an institution that will provide me the opportunity to do it as soon as possible. Also an lpn for few years but not acclamated with the location and requirements to be accepted into the bridge program. Can you help me with more information? Thank much Piry
  6. Hi, I am sort of new the the forum and been reading through the posts just to find out that, most of the nursing schools that have the bridge programs are just almost impossible to get in mainly because of the gpa. I live in the Spring Hill area and PHCC college seems to have not only an extremely high gpa requirement but the waiting list is kind of long. Is someone in this nursing forum that knows about a college near Spring Hill area that does not require so much to get in. I cannot afford a private institution either. GPA 2.8 and already been an LPN for few years, have an AA degree and doing my last prereq (microbiology) in another college out of state. Please help me with some advise. I am new to the area and don't know much around. Thank so much for your input. Piry
  7. Dont feel bad and count your blessings because having 18 residents only, you are lucky. As you go along and learn to manage and prioritize you'll be able to finish on time. All those nurses were like you when they started working, nobody starts a job knowing all. We all go through that in the beginning. Have confidence in yourself and your skills. Ask questions and ask for help when in doubt. Most of all, be nice to your fellow workers and have a good attitude towards them and they will learn to appreciate you. Take time to reflect in all the things you have accomplished up to this day. You are doing just fine.
  8. Hi, Iam new to Hernando County area and dont know how to start looking for a job nor where. Have some experience in Psych, LTC, and wound care. I find out that most places in FL ask for IV certification which I don't have. I did corrections for only two weeks (I do like it) so can you offer some advice and do you know a good place that I might be able to apply, a place that I'll be treated somewhat "fear". How about orientation time? Where do you work? Please reply. Going bananas without a job. Applied to PHCC for the RN transitional program missing only two more courses before having a chance to be accepted into the program or to get a seat. Thanks,

Hi, I read some of your post and I wonder if you were attending PHCC what make you attend Galen which is so very, very much expensive and credits are not so easily transferable to another institution unless is to another private school? When you have to work full-time and attend school you need to have some sort of flexibility in the schedule. It seems that Galen is very stressful due to the length of time the classess are conducted. Well wish you the best and hope you be able to be one of the ones accepted. Give it some more thought specially if you need to work. By the way I will be attending PHCC soon and I will like to get in touch with you since we live close by (Spring Hill area). Talk to you soon.
