Unfortunately, I am in a very similar situation. Since I started nursing school, I have been looking forward to this semester of pediatrics and maternity. It has turned out to one of the worst semesters, and I can hardly believe what has happened thus far. I started on a unit where the nurses refused to work with us on many occasions. Added to that, my clinical instructor was unsupportive and a nurse on the unit blatantly lied about an incident involving me and a classmate. Consequently, I failed peds clinical and am awaiting word on whether I will be reinstated to the school this month. I am literally shocked at what has happened, the lack of support I have experienced at all levels, both inside the hospital from other nurses, and my instructors at the school. It has been an incredible and unfortunate wake-up call that I need to get over my naivete, toughen up and watch my back constantly. This is not what nursing is supposed to be about, and I'm having a difficult time reconciling how important team work is with how I've been thrown under the bus by people I trusted. I am seriously questioning my commitment to this field, assuming I'm giving the opportunity to continue. I hope things turn up for both of us, but it feels pretty dark right now.

Looking at Epocrates, it looks like this drug is used as dvt prophylaxis pre-abdominal surgery. Could this be it perhaps?

The program used to be only 2 years, but with the budget cuts, they eliminated the summer courses. So, yes, now it's 3 years. At least that gives the economy more time to turn around, and hopefully brighter job prospects upon graduation. I'll be starting in the GMSN program this spring and am anxious for it to start! Hi everyone! There hasn't been a posting here recently, so I thought I'd check in! I'm also wondering if anyone who is starting in the January 2011 cohort (I'm in the Public Health cohort) has had their admissions status change. We were told that we should see this change mid-August, but I"m just feeling a little paranoid ;-) I'm so anxious for class to start and January seems so far away. I'll be studying and taking the GRE and refreshing some pharm and patho. I know the time will go quickly, but it seems a long way off right now. I'd love to hear how the group starting this semester fares as well!

Funjesssays, Thanks so much for the info! I signed up for the 14th, and hopefully I'll pass with a good enough score so I can avoid taking the GRE. Anything to avoid standardized tests--I'm saving up my nerve for the NCLEX! :)

To Lynn , I will be going to SFSU Generic Master's program, specializing in Public Health. I'm realizing that it will be beneficial to get a more advanced degree, particularly since I see myself going the NP route eventually. Also, there doesn't seem to be much incentive to get out of school quickly with the current lack of jobs. I'm not looking forward to the commute into the city from Berkeley, but I'll just study my heart out on BART. Van Halen Fan, Thanks for the GET info! I also would MUCH rather take that then do the GRE. I totally agree with your point about wasting brain energy and stress over the rest of the GRE. Let me know what you find out about whether we can take the GET instead. I'd be happy to lobby on our behalf as well.

Hi everyone! I received an email from the SFSU program today. They mentioned the need to take the Analytical Writing Section of the GRE by semester six (of seven), and suggested taking it before classes start. I'm in the spring public health program BTW. Does anyone know if this means I have to take the whole GRE, or can I take just the writing portion of the GRE? I hope I don't have to take the whole test--gack! I'm looking forward to hearing more from future classmates! :)

I got in too! Although the Public Health cohort doesn't start until Spring 2011. I was afraid of this possibility after reading posts from last year. I don't know if I want to wait that long. I've got some thinking to do... Good luck to everyone and thanks for all the helpful conversation!

I've been wondering that too. I had a friend who went through this program 4+ years ago, and left after the first year with her RN. I wasn't clear if she received a BSN too. Good question!

I am still waiting on my admission to the university. I went in last week to the admissions office to check on what was going on with my application. It turns out that one of my final transcripts hadn't shown up. I couldn't figure out what transcripts were final on my csueastbay until I went to "Check your personal to do list" and then I could see more details about what transcripts were final or not. (I've taken many different classes at many different locations.) I would encourage everyone to go that personal checklist and make sure that your intent to register form isn't waiting there to be completed. Also, if you've applied for financial aid, you should check your awards status at "View financial aid" and make sure to complete your online counseling for the Stafford awards. I'm still waiting on mine to be finalized, but hopefully it will be completed this week. I also spoke to someone about taking classes this summer, like History of Nursing for example. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, unless you've been accepted as a summer 2010 student (as opposed to Fall 2010) you are not eligible to take classes this summer. Also, I think Concord is the only campus that has nursing classes in the summer, so I don't think it would even be possible to take it at Hayward. I've taken Pharm and Patho online, but honestly I'll be glad to repeat them. I find online class material doesn't stick with me as well, and both of these are very important to know backwards and forwards. I've taken Lifespan Human Development through Berkeley City College (very interesting by the way) and I'm waiting to hear if those credits will transfer to CSU towards the nursing degree. I'm also waiting to hear if my Sociology and Psychology classes will transfer as well. Also, I've heard the CCC drug dosage class is very helpful, but good luck trying to get in--it fills up extremely quickly. The orientation does seem a long way off. I"m just trying to enjoy the bit of free time I have now before the program begins!

Hi everyone, I've been following this thread as I am anxiously waiting to hear too! I finally broke down and called today. I was told that "it was up to the faculty at this point" and that "maybe" we'd hear next week. The person I spoke to did not want to give an estimate on when we might hear. Ugh. I just want to know so that I can move on and make a decision on a couple of other schools. Good luck to everyone and let's hope we hear soon!

I am still waiting on my acceptance from the school at large. I have sent final transcripts 3 times since November, and my status is still incomplete. I have heard that due to layoffs, the admissions office is totally overwhelmed. It's pretty frustrating though. I have sent numerous emails with no reply and have called and waited on hold for 45 minutes only to be disconnected. I'm planning on going to campus this week and try to talk to someone in person to find out what's going on. I also want to double check what other classes I'll need to finish to get the BSN degree, such as a second English class, CA history (I didn't go to HS here in CA), performing arts/activities (!), and a women/cultural class. This could add at least another quarter to my degree, so I'm really hoping I can get classes from my other bachelor's to count towards these. Sigh. I'll let you know what I found out when I go to campus on Wednesday.
