  1. @jazzymin27: fellow LAC+USC NICU new hire here! So excited that we'll both be orienting on Nov.1!!! I sent you a private message & can't wait to meet you in person :) 'til then Take care!
  2. Hello eedo_rn, Congratulations on your interview at Olive View! The simplest way to describe the difference between RN I vs. Relief Nurse is: RN I is a full-time position, while Relief Nurse is per-diem. I'm unable to specify tips b/c of the waiver form I signed. But just go in there confident & take a deep breath! You got this! :)
  3. @alexrocco: Congratulations on getting hired at Olive View! I also accepted a job offer there. Y***** from Nurse Recruitment called me this past Monday to offer a Relief RN position (Psych ER). I asked when I would be contacted next & was told that someone from HR will call to schedule a LiveScan appointment in ~1 month. She said to "be patient" & that it would be "awhile". If you don't mind me asking: Which unit did you get hired into? Congrats again & feel free to PM me so we can discuss further :)
  4. @PowerSurge: Thank you soo much for the response! I agree that the County application process is slow, but you're right we need to hang on! Let's support each other through it! >> I've sent you a PM message :)
  5. RNewbie: Wow you interviewed back in Dec & still no results? That is quite a long while. Anyhow I am glad to hear that you are happy at your current job! Congrats & best wishes to you! :)
  6. Hi Sashimi! I had my Civil Service Interview at LAC+USC for the Relief Nurse position this past Wed & RNewbie has given you great advice. In addition I brought a cover letter. @RNewbie & PowerSurge: Have you received a "Pass/Fail" letter in the mail yet? If so, how long did it take?
  7. @littleone17: what an AMAZING story! Congratulations on passing the NCLEX & best wishes in your future nursing career!! "God is good ALL the time; & ALL the time God is good!"
  8. @deemarys: that is the good pop-up, congrats!!!
  9. @watermelon21: Honestly I didn't even think to check to see if the "Delivery successful" message had posted, haha! I waited 3hrs after my exam to try the PVT. Yes, I used Kaplan & that's all I used! I followed this lady's exact timeline to help me study: https://allnurses.com/nclex-discussion-forum/how-i-passed-591831.html Also I read the AN study guide several times before the exam: https://allnurses.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=10123&d=1328059426 Best Wishes!!
  10. Hello UCI&USFMom: I tested at 0800.
  11. Thanks for the congrats! I just prayed for you now! I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with PVT last time. But I think the 21 SATA ?s you got this time around is a good sign!!Draw strength from Him & soon the wait for your results will be over >> I will continue to keep you in my prayers!!
  12. @su32: Your test sounds ALOT like mine! I took the NCLEX-RN here in CA this past Wed. It lasted about 1hr and I wasn't keeping track of the number of questions. But if I had to guess my computer probably shut off at question 75. I had 25 SATA, 2-3 infection control ?s, 2 exhibits, a couple delegation & prioritization questions, and meds I'd never heard of! Waited 3 hrs after my exam, tried the PVT & got the good pop-up. I checked the CA BRN website this morning and my name is posted >> the PVT is 100% reliable!! Now, I know you're against the PVT & I can't say that I blame you. Buuutt, IMO I would try it if I were you - this might help give you some peace of mind! Either way, congrats on conquering the NCLEX & I will keep you in my prayers!!
  13. @CaliforniaPM: I'm from CA and took the NCLEX-RN on 2/15 (Wed) at 0800. Did the PVT 3 hours after my exam and got the good pop-up. Checked the BRN website this morning (2/18) at 0630ish and my name is posted! I had been checking the BRN website everyday up until that point, eventhough I knew the soonest my name would be posted was in 48hrs. So, if you took your exam 2/16 (Thurs) I think the soonest you can expect your name to be posted is Tues. *The CA BRN's office is closed on Sat & Sun. Don't forget Monday is a state holiday, President's Day. I've heard it can also take as long as 1 week for names to be posted. But if you tried the PVT & you're getting the good pop-up, I'm sure you passed! Keep the faith!!

  15. Hi world2another, The entrance exam that LA County administers is the "California Achievement Test". 1. What does the exam consist of? This exam consists of a Reading Test - which has two sections: Vocabulary and Comprehension. There is also a Mathematics portion - with two sections: Computation and Concepts & Applied Skills. 2. Is the entrance exam hard? The entrance exam was not hard at all for me - it was pretty basic and reminded me of the high school exit exam. 3. What are recommended study guides? I used the Princeton Review's SAT prep book to study for the Reading Test; and, I used the Princeton Review's GED prep book to study for the Mathematics Test. You should be able to find these books at your local public library. Best wishes!
  16. Hey bookwormjoy! Congrats on getting into PCC, I know you will do great there! :)
  17. RickiP, no worries! Best wishes to you as you apply for the nursing program out there in Arizona! :)
  18. Hi RickiP! Just wanted to clarify: are you looking to apply for GCC in California, or GCC in Arizona?
  19. np! & best wishes to you as you work on the last of your pre-req's ... and with applying to nursing school! :)
  20. No worries! I actually picked GCC because their NCLEX pass rate was higher than the Mount's, GCC's tuition is significantly lower than MSMC's, and I had already taken my pre-req's at GCC so I felt more comfortable going there. Plus, it doesn't hurt that GCC's nursing building is pretty new
  21. Glendale Community College
  22. I was accepted for Mount St. Mary's Spring class, but I declined. I'll be going to GCC instead. Best wishes to you on getting your GPA up! You can do it :)
  23. If you want to get your BSN, just apply for Mount St. Mary's BSN program. You don't need to have an ADN :)
  24. Hey :) I didn't apply for their BSN program - I actually applied for their ADN program. I had previously taken my pre-req.'s at GCC, so I was a transfer student. I don't think your GPA is that low actually. My overall GPA was a 3.25, and science GPA was a 4.0. So you shouldn't give up, definitely try and apply!
  25. Hi Little_RN, For their ADN program you have to get a "C" or better in: college chemistry (w/lab), written communication, and general psychology. Have an overall GPA of at least 2.5; and their required science GPA is a 2.5 minimum. Hope this helps! :)
