Has anyone completed the PN component at Deaconess?
That is what I plan on doing too. I just didn't know if they all had to be done by the time you took your PN-NCLEX or not. I wish the hospital would call me back, I am so impatient about waiting. Trish

Has anyone completed the PN component at Deaconess?
Yes, that was very helpful!!!! Thanks!!!! I talked to my clinical manager on the floor that I work on and she gave me the name of who to talk to about doing my clinicals there and she doesn't see a problem with me doing them there. As far as the science classes what is your time line for having to have them done, does it have to be before you take your PN boards? I was hoping to take 1 a semester so I don't stress myself and my family out. Trish

I am glad to hear you like it also. I am very excited about starting and have so many questions. I contacted the Ohio BON but I am going to call them and ask a few more questions. I called the Missouri BON, they called back but I was gone so I need to call them back now. I would love to be able to get my LPN and then go back for the ASN part in a few months or so. Cbarnett2...what are you talking about that you will have an instructor? Also, how much time to you have to spend online a week with your classes? How about studying? I really want to do this I just wantt o make sure I don't cheat myself so I can give 100% to it. Trish

OPALM... You said that you just finished the PN part of the program, are you going on for your ASN with them? I was wondering if I could do the PN part and then work for a while and get my ASN thru them a year or so after I finish or even do it thru somewhere else. I was very happy to find out that the school was accrediated since 1991 and I talked to the Ohio BON and they were fine with the school. I called the Missouri BON and left a message for a lady, she called me back Friday but I haven't been able to call her back yet. (I will tomorrow though) Thanks!!!! Trish

Angency work..
Do agencies offer insurance? I think I heard before that they do not, that is why they could pay say well. Also, do agencies hire LPN's or just RN's? Trish :balloons:

Anyone heard of Deaconess?
Ok, that is fine with me. I was applying to the college in my area and not able to go full time for my nursing program till my daughter got into kindergarten in 2 years, now I will be finished right after she starts. YEAH I can't wait to get started!!!!! How are your classes going? Have you had any trouble finding a place to do your clinicals? I work at a hospital as a PCA now so I am going to ask my Director if she can approve it or who I need to ask. How about books and uniforms, how do you get them? Sorry I am so full of questions I am just so excited that I can be done at the time I thought I was going ot have to get started. Trish

Anyone heard of Deaconess?
I have talked to the school since my last post and I can do everything except my science classes online. After every quarter (starting 2 quarter) I have to go to the school for 3 days for testing and some clinical work everything is online. Trish

Has anyone completed the PN component at Deaconess?
Are you kidding me??? How great is that!!!!!!!! If you wouldn't mind I have a couple of questions.... How did you do your clinicals? How long did it take you? Do you have a schedule to keep? I read somewhere that you have to "sign up for your ASN" What does that mean? I will assume you like doing it this way and the school was good to go thru? Where you able to take your LPN State test and be an LPN and then go for your ASN? Thank you!!!!!!!! Trish

I am under the impression that you can get your LPN on line and then go on for your RN or BSN with them? Anyone know? Trish

Becoming a nurse..
I am trying to decide whether to go to nursing school or not. I haev always wanted to go but here is what I am dealing with.. I work 1 evening a week and every other weekend at the hospital now, I will start my pre req and be gone 2 other nights a week for 2 to 2 1/2 hours, so that is 3 nights a week and every other weekend for winter and spring quarter. I will take summer quarter off and then my dd is going ot go to preschool next fall for 2 1/2 days so I can do some classes while she is in school then. Then the next year when she starts kindergarten I can start my nursing classes but I am afraid that I will miss her kindergarten and 1st grade years and I will never get them back. I look at it 2 ways, it is better to miss the early years then I can work my schedule around her school schedule (I am going to work 11P to 7A after graduating) The other way is, you only have them young once and I don't want to regret missing them later. What to do????? I really want to become a nurse but I am in the medical field already as a PCA (Patient Care Associate) so I am helping people already, which is what I really want to do. Thanks for listening!!! :balloons: Trish

New mom applied to nursing school
Good luck. Have a 3 year old (she will be 4 in January) and I wanted to start when she was a baby but I felt better waiting till she was older, I am starting my pre req in the winter quarter (1 per quarter) and then next Fall she is 4 1/2 I will do Preschool for 2 1/2 days a week and get more of them done. I will be finished with my pre req and ready to apply for nursing school when she goes to kindergarten. Nursing school is all day (or mst of it) every day so I wanted to wait till she got older. I stayed home with her till she was 2 1/2 and then I found a job at the local hospital working every weekend so she could stay with my hubby/her dad. This last spring I took a class at the vocational school, phlebotomy which landed me a position on the med/surg floor and I love it. If you are able to get into a hospital that would be great, alot of them have reimbursement or loan programs that you can apply for. Where I work even has a total plan, which if you are selected it will pay your way thru school and your salary while you are in school, now you have to sign up with them for a couple of years but hey who could beat that. Goodluck!!! Trish

What is nursing to you?
I am a PCA and I will soon start my pre req but I really love what I do and that is my reasong for wanting to become a nurse. I enjoy helping people all I can. Trish :balloons:

Home Health CNA experience prior to RN?
I am a PCA at a hospital and I only work weekends, 12 hour shifts. That is what fits our schedule and hubby can watch our 3 year old when I am at work for those 2 12's. I started out at $10.75 and all you have to have at our hospital is a CNA certificate which I did or you can even be a Phlebotomist which I have that training too. Trish :balloons:

What is the advantage of having...
Your BSN? I am going for my ADN and I might end up being on the waiting list. I have heard someone else say that they would go ahead and take some of their pre req for their BSN and then be done with it 2 semesters after their ADN. I am not sure the benefits for going for BSN, could someone help me please? Trish

Am I to old???
Paulclark911... No you are not too old!!! I wanted you to know about the excelsior program that a few of the nurses where I work are going thru. If you are a paramedic you can do the course all on line except for the clinicals, you will have to check out their website for more info. Good luck!! Trish :balloons:
