  1. For anyone wondering, the employer did not rescind their offer and I have a start date! I appreciate the support and good advice given.
  2. Thanks, you've made some good points.
  3. I am eligible to have my record sealed. My hesitation is that I have a dismissed driving infraction from 2004 that shows up on a background check. The attorney I consulted pointed out that a level 2 background check would show that something is sealed, along with the driving charge. Potential employers may wonder "what are they hiding?" when they see the two search results.
  4. Yup, we're talking FL. From what I understand withholding judgement (adjudication withheld) is a decision by the judge done to prevent a conviction on one's record with the expectation that it is unlikely further trouble will occur. Well, I didn't end up racking up any convictions but for all the future employment trouble, it might as well be a conviction. Yes, I am eligible to have my record sealed. My hesitation is that I have a dismissed driving infraction from 2004 that shows up on a background check. 5. @hppygr8ful Thanks for the response! An attorney did say that I am eligible to have it sealed, but I'm not sure I want to seem like I'm hiding something.
  6. I spoke with an attorney on Tuesday. I am eligible to have my record sealed since it is not a conviction and it would be nice to have the arrest hidden. However, I was advised that a level 2 background check would still show that something was there. Plus, I have a (dismissed) driving on a suspended license from 2004 that will certainly show and the attorney said it would look shady if they found that plus something that was sealed (the 2002 marijuana adjudication withheld). This situation is so frustrating. I haven't had as much as a traffic citation in 15 years! Does anyone know how I could ask hiring managers or HR people about this (whether or not to seal the marijuana arrest) without burning bridges?
  7. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I think you handled it in such a smart way and I am so glad that it worked out. I am looking to be proactive but not overdoing any explanations and your strategy seems to do just that. I have recently applied to two other residencies. One application asked about prior convictions, one did not. It will be interesting to see which I do or do not hear back from.
  8. So I got my BSN in May. I applied for a nurse residency job on a Sunday, got a call for a phone screening on Monday, asked for an in-person interview the next day, Tuesday, and was given a job offer two hours after the interview. On Friday, I got a call from a senior HR person who informed me that their offer may be rescinded because of a misdemeanor marijuana charge (disposition was adjudication withheld so not a conviction but not a dismissed charge either) from 2002 that came up as a result of my background check. I did not state it on my application as it was not a conviction, but not stating it is part of what this employer is upset about. Moving forward, if this job rescinds their offer and I am continuing my job search, how would you suggest informing employers of my record? If the question isn't asked on the application, do I bring it up during an interview? Is it likely that all employers are going to be concerned about a twenty-year-old, nonviolent crime that I wasn't actually convicted of?
  9. Thanks for the link. As for the uniform, I plan on asking on Monday, when I am on campus to get a parking decal. I'll post whatever I find out on here. Have a nice weekend :)
  10. I am so nervous/excited about Wednesday. Fellow Semester 1 students, is this everything we need for the first day? Books Uniform including nametag Planner Syllabi (where do I find these to print?) I feel like I am forgetting something(s)...
  11. I was also part of the online tour group. Here's my take on it: 1. The group was too large. I could barely hear the tour guides. 2. I am unconcerned with their, or anyone's, opinion on how "hard" a class is, online or otherwise. Everyone is different. I think I'd actually prefer not knowing what a professor is emphasizing during a lecture. Just because a certain topic may not be on our test, who's to say it won't be relevant on the state board or during our nursing careers? I want to learn as much as I can about nursing and medicine, regardless of whether or not it is on a PBSC test. 3. It was nice to see the Skills Lab. I too was impressed with it. Overall, I feel like orientation was a success, and that a lot of work was put into it. I just wish that the "online" tour group was split up, and that discussion of whether or not a particular style class is hard should have been a minimum, not a majority, of our conversation.
  12. Can anyone tell me what text is needed for NUR 2140 (Pharmacology), or have one for sale? Has anyone taken this online recently? Thanks :)
  13. For anyone who has turned in their packet: What are you giving PBCC from the drug test and background check? I know that NMS is sending the results to the school, but do you need to include anything from NMS in your packet?
  14. Hi. My total points were 28.28. I had all the pre- and co-requisites finished before the deadline. I also scored above the 90th percentile on the NLN. But I didn't get the point for volunteer experience, bachelors degree, or masters. And my GPA isn't that spectacular. So I'd suggest making sure you finish all the necessary classes, and study hard for the NLN. The review book that the PBCC nursing website suggests is excellent at preparing you for the test. I used it, and scored in the 99th percentile. It is not impossible to get in. Good luck!
