  1. I used to work in the ER as an admitting clerk, and we routinely spoke with EMS to gather pt information. One patient arrived from a LTC facility, and instead of asking which care centre the patient was arriving from, I asked (in front of about 10 EMS, the patient, and a few nurses), "Which funeral home are they coming from?" Everyone burst out laughing, and I have yet to live it down
  2. I was working in the urgent care centre when we had a young guy come in with a laceration to his arm. As I was removing the dressing to look at it, I asked him how it happened. He said he fell while curling at the ice rink. Me, in my infinite wisdom asked, "Oh, did you cut yourself on the skate blade?" He just looked at me and burst out laughing, then I realized what I had asked. Doh!
  3. Anything to do with food chunkies. Food in dentures, or vomit, or stool, you name it, I will gag. The first time I ever gagged was when I was collecting a stool sample from a patient. It was liquid stool with food chunkies in it, and I had to use the little sppon/fork thingy that came with the bottle. Good thing I was in the patient's bathroom and they didn't hear me!
  4. The one I hear most often is mammeogram. I'm constantly tempted to correct them and shout "It's Mamm-o-gram, there is no E in the word!!!", but I hold back, lol
