Hello! I definitely would have preferred BSN, but when I went to the info session back in September, they said only the top 10 transfer students were accepted and 3 alternates. I didn't think I'd make the cut and you can only apply to one program at a time, so I chose ADN. The ABSN seems like such an intense program! But I'd be willing to commit myself to a year of stress in exchange for a BSN. Good luck to you!

GREAT NEWS about Fall!!! I think you would be fine missing the orientations, but not the first day of class. But I don't know, this being a private college, maybe they would be more accommodating? If you're guaranteed Fall acceptance, I'd go for it.

I know that feeling of stress, don't worry though. I think they are much less selective of pre-nursing applicants. I really don't see why they would deny someone. Plus, if you take the pre-nursing courses at MSMC they give you priority when applying directly to ADN. That being said, I do think you must still have competitive grades. Before I applied, I attended a group counseling session lead by a nursing admissions counselor and she said that while they do give priority to continuing students, if it's between a MSMC pre-nursing student with a 2.5 and an outsider with 3.5, obviously they're going to favor the one with a higher GPA. So yes, if you are an average MSMC student, you could potentially be turned down. Also, make sure you note the repeat limit as it pertains to D's and F's. You can repeat ONLY ONE course if you receive anything below a C. Example, if you took Micro and Physio, failed them, took them again, got A's, you would still be ineligible. From conversations with staff, they have gotten very strict with this rule, just something to keep in mind. Here is directly from the MSMC ADN page: GENERAL STUDIES REQUIREMENTS Human Anatomy w/lab *4 Units Microbiology w/lab *4 Units Chemistry w/lab*3-4 Units Human Physiology w/lab *4 Units Speech 1013 Units English 1013 Units Lifespan/Developmental Psychology3 Units General Psychology3 Units General Studies Elective (Art, Music, Literature or History)3 Units Sociology3 units Philosophy- Critical Thinking3 units * Effective Fall 2009, a student may repeat a course required for the nursing major no more than once. Failure (C- and below) of any two required science or pre-requisite courses results in non-admission. Finally, I really wish I would have known just how competitive one must be when starting the road to nursing. I took Chem in the summer, got an A, but over-loaded myself with the rest of the sciences. I made the mistake of taking Anatomy, Physio, and Micro in a single semester. I guess I wanted to make up for time wasted. I got 2 B's and an A. Not bad, but certainly not good enough to enter any program directly. Plus I wasn't always as ambitious of a student as I am now and have a lower cumulative GPA. This really hurt my chances in getting into any community college or CSU. So my honest advice to you is if you really want to make it easier on yourself when it counts, take only the amount of classes/semester you KNOW you can handle and get A's. Trust me, I definitely would have spent 3 semesters taking the prereqs had I known. They say 2.5GPA, but that is truly the bare-minimum. So yeah, that's my advice and my Hope this helps.

I think that if you apply direct to ADN and you're denied they put you in prenursing. Obviously you have all the ADN core prereqs, your denial was a transcript issue (very lame btw) so I really do think you will get in for Fall. I believe they give priority to continuing MSMC students, so maybe you should take that religion course RST 41. That way you can have it out of the way before you even start ADN, you'll be given priority because you're a continuing student, and then you can get yourself a sweatshirt too. HA! On the other hand, like I've said before, I don't know your academic record, but you strike me as being a good student with a great GPA. Maybe you should just wait and apply to Community Colleges as well as MSMC for Fall. Decisions, decisions, right?

Any accepted spring ADN students out there?

Hey!! I'm so happy you're starting in the Spring. CONGRATS!!!!!:balloons: So I know it sounds crazy, being it's super expensive, but I was accepted to start in the ADN at MSMC in the spring. I'm so excited, though. Classes start Jan 11. I'm nervous, but really can't wait. I'm still going to keep my name on the list at SAC just to see how long it would have taken to enter. I predict another year and a half. Also, congrats on the baby!! You and your wife must be thrilled!! Keep in contact to let me know how your program goes. Just think, by 2012, we'll both be RN's. YAY!!

I know. It would have been so nice to be nursing buddies, but hey, I'm sure that you will get in for the Fall. Then I can give you a heads up on what to expect. :) I'm gonna be nerdy and go next week to get my books, and of course, some MSMC paraphernalia like a sweatshirt, mug, pens--you know, essentials. Hey munoz7rox, Thanks so much for the congrats, I'm so excited this is finally happening. You have no idea how much effort this took. Glad it worked out. MSMC is very pricey-- Here is the breakdown: Associate Degree in Nursing (2009-2010) Tuition (12 units)$8280 Per unit$690 College Service Fee$220 Nursing Fee$275 Health Insurance$1362/yr Factor in books, parking, gas, incidentals, I'm sure it's well over $10,000/semester. I know what you're thinking, sounds crazy, right? But look at it this way, you could wait 2-5 years and go to a community college, essentially putting your life on hold, OR you could pay around $40,000 and go directly into a program. And it's not like you would have to pay the entire amount. I qualify for a variety of financial aid help, you can get controlled loans that you won't have to worry about until after you start working, so really, it's very doable. I consider it an investment. My grades aren't terrible (refer back to my previous post ) but I have already been through a year of denials from other colleges, I'm older, and I'd like to get my life started. I will gladly pay to do this. I'd recommend you check it out and see if it's for you. Glad to meet you and good luck :)

Hi hauyoudoing, Did msmc contact you to take the TEAS? If they did and you took it, did they contact you for an interview? From my understanding, they were setting up interviews on November 25 and Nov 30. Could be more days, but those were the days that I was offered for my interview. I think there was something like, 72 spots available for spring. I would give them a call. It can't hurt. Trust me, I called them soooo much during this entire process. Call them, email them, do whatever just to let them know you're truly interested. I think that's what helped me; my relentless pestering since August. LOL Good luck to you!! :)

Hey vlove, I do have some exciting news to report: I was accepted!! It all happened so fast. Last Tuesday, someone from the nursing department called wanting to schedule an interview asap, as in the next day! This gave me little time to prepare but I just wanted to get things rolling. They emailed me a list of possible questions, very similar to our admissions essay so I wasn't that nervous. My interview was with one of the nursing administrators and was very conversational. She really just wanted to know about me, why I chose nursing, but really, it was very much about my interests. It was great, very easy going, lasted about 20 minutes and at the end she welcomed me into the nursing program! I had absolutley no idea I would be told then. Thought I would have to wait until nealry the end of December. It was a great early thanksgiving surprise. :-) I have a 3.54 science gpa,3.6 in overall core prereqs, 2.76 overall ( I know pretty bad but that's when I was younger ) and an 85.3 on TEAS. I have my MA back office certificate, but really I'm not sure how much that factored into their decision. Of course I don't know your academic standing, but I think that as long as you get them all the transcripts, you shouldn't have a problem getting in. Besides, I think they focus first on science gpa, core prereq gpa, and TEAS. I'm also fairly sure that once you get an interview, you're essentially in. Hello aehtela!! Thanks for the info. Do you know if we have to interview? I have read conflicting things. I want to say that there will be an interview, which I would actually love. I hope to hear from MSMC very soon. However, I was just accepted to a BSN program in Milwaukee, WI for less money than MSMC, but I mean, it's Wisconsin. LOL. I don't know, this acceptance changes everything now. I just feel that I've put SO much into MSMC, I don't want to give up. We'll see. It's nice having options. Did you take the TEAS at MSMC? When did you take it and how many took it with you? Did you find out what a competitive score is? Thanks so much for responding. It's very helpful. :)

Math was difficult because I was quite rushed. I hope you passed this time around! What program are you applying to ? I applied to several CC's but no luck. I'm awaiting to hear from Mount St. Mary's College in LA. I think I have a better shot at that school because it's private and expensive. LOL. :) Anyway, Hope you did well!

Thanks for the info about SAC. With my number being in the high 700's, I thought it would be 5+years before I got in. Looks like that's not the case. Gives me something to think about. I saw in another post of yours that you were inquiring about the TEAS. If you can, I would recommend getting both the ATI manual and Mcgraw because both are helpful for different aspects of the test. I just took it last week at Rio Hondo (got an 85.3) and thought the ATI one did a pretty good job of prepping for Reading, English, and Math, but not for Science. Then again, as others have said, the science section is incredibly varied; it's kind of hard to pin point where to begin to study. I think the Mcgraw book is more in depth in science. It's worth checking out. I should also add that for math, know conversions, (how many cups in a gallon, ml to l, etc) and practice practice practice speeding up your time. I would also recommend getting the online practice test from ATI.

Hi Vectrexevo, I didn't get a letter from SAC, but I am on the waitlist...can't recall my exact position, but I know it's well into the 700's! Anyway, I know it will be sometime before I get in. May I ask when you were placed on the list, what number did you start out at, how long did it take to move up, have you already taken pharm and the other class, etc? Any info would be appreciated. I finished all prereqs Fall '08 and was put on the waitlist in Jan '09. This is my second semester of denials (GoldenWest, Cypress, Rio Hondo) and it's very frustrating. I decided to go the private route and apply to Mount St. Mary's College in LA. It's expensive ($30, 000 for ADN) but if I can get in sooner, I guess I'll pay the money. We'll see. Congrats on being accepted!! :)

vlove that's awful!!! I'm sorry. Are you sure that nothing can be done? Bummer city! If this entire process has taught me anything, it's that unfortunately, you really have to double and triple check everyone to make sure they are giving you the right information. It's sad. Counselors give misinformation all the time and they don't realize that they are affecting someone's future. Geez, I'm mad too . Now who am I going to talk to on this board? What I don't understand is that they already checked off that you could take the TEAS. Wow, that makes me feel a little uneasy about my own status. Well, think of it this way, you'll have micro done this semester and you can start applying to different community colleges or CSUs. Are you still going to take the TEAS?

vlove, See that's the thing about msmc that upsets me sometimes is the misinformation. I went to the ADN orientation sometime in early August and both Nursing Dept. assistants said that we could take World Religions to fulfill the requirement; however, that is not true. We can only fulfill the requirement at msmc by taking (can't really recall the name) RST41. So I signed up for World Religions at Orange Coast College, it's in progress, but am bummed that I don't really need. Oh well. It's an interesting class nonetheless. Hey, if you can for TEAS, get another study guide to help you in the science and math. I picked Nursing School Entrance Exam by KAPLAN. It goes way more in depth than TEAS manual. REALLY REALLY REALLY study up on the math and get faster. How many In-Progresses do you have? I have Lifespan Development and Critical thinking Phil (Logic). Good luck, keep me posted. :)

vlove, About WebAdvisor, yes, all of my documents that I sent show as received. I bet MSMC has them, though. It's probably just an oversight. Two of my letters of recommendation (sent 3 in total) did not show on WebAdvisor. I called, they had them, it was fixed. You should give them a call. I'm sure it's a mistake on their end. About TEAS: The english and reading were very simple, but math and science killed me. I felt like there was not enough time for math and science was all over the place. I'd tell you what to look out for in science, but I now know what others mean when they say that you can't really study for it; meaning you either know it or you don't. Do your best and guess. Math, just make sure you time yourself when taking the pretest in the workbook. And know conversions, how many cups are in a gallon, etc. Know ratios/ proportions. And most importantly, try not to freak out when you come across a problem that takes a long time. I did, and I think that really hurt me. I just wasn't very prepared for the math. Not necessarily hard, I just needed to speed up my time. Oh well, it's over and done so I'm glad. Learn from my mistakes though! lol Hope this helps!!

It was waaay harder than I thought, and I got an 85.3. Not a terrible score, but I thought I'd do better. Anyway, I spoke to someone today and my TEAS was evaluated and my file was pushed for final review by the Nursing Department!! I'm so excited!! From what I have read on the boards, I think this is the interview stage. I'm so excited because this is the final stage. YAY! Good for you too!! Wouldn't that be so awesome if we both got in? We would already have a built in friendship! LOL jK I'll make sure I check this site often. Good luck with the TEAS!!

Well, maybe that's a good sign then?? I don't know. I've been noticing that whenever I get emails from them (which isn't very often but still) they tend to be later in the week so maybe.... Of course I would want nothing more than to get into the program, but I'm kind of to the point where I just want an email/letter either way of my status, you know? If they declare me an unqualified candidate, then just tell me, cause I don't think I can take this another few weeks, let alone all the way through December!! I pushed back my TEAS at RIO HONDO to Monday, Oct 26, 2009 so I have these 4 days to study non-stop. I don't know, my hope is that if I'm not selected and I do well on TEAS, MSMC will look at my score and go,"Hold everything, we've over looked this candidate, let's give her a chance." LOL You can be sure that whenever I get news, I'll tell ya!!

Hey vlove, Any info yet about TEAS? I still haven't gotten anything but hear that the deadline was moved back to Oct 30, 2009. I spoke to someone and they said that they're sending out the last batch of invites this week!! So I don't know, still pretty worried if I don't get an invite cause that means even if I take the TEAS at another school, they won't look at them anyway. UHHHH frustration city! Hi vlove! Rio Hondo College is in Whittier. I think you should call the nursing department to ask if there is still room for TEAS testing for Oct 23, 2009. The woman I spoke with was very accommodating. It's around $75 or so, but of course she can give you the exact info. I'm so glad that you're still in the running!! Internal error? At least they fixed it. If you spoke to someone in the nursing department and they didn't mention anything about TEAS testing, maybe no one has gotten the info yet. That would put my mind at ease. I kind of want to call them again, but I feel that I've been bugging WAAAY too much. Don't want to jinx my chances by being totally annoying. LOL jk. Anyway, I think Rio Hondo is definitely worth looking into just in case there are anymore "internal errors." :icon_roll Glad to meet you, vlove! I'll keep you posted, and you do the same for me!
