Hello! I definitely would have preferred BSN, but when I went to the info session back in September, they said only the top 10 transfer students were accepted and 3 alternates. I didn't think I'd make the cut and you can only apply to one program at a time, so I chose ADN. The ABSN seems like such an intense program! But I'd be willing to commit myself to a year of stress in exchange for a BSN. Good luck to you!

GREAT NEWS about Fall!!! I think you would be fine missing the orientations, but not the first day of class. But I don't know, this being a private college, maybe they would be more accommodating? If you're guaranteed Fall acceptance, I'd go for it.

I know that feeling of stress, don't worry though. I think they are much less selective of pre-nursing applicants. I really don't see why they would deny someone. Plus, if you take the pre-nursing courses at MSMC they give you priority when applying directly to ADN. That being said, I do think you must still have competitive grades. Before I applied, I attended a group counseling session lead by a nursing admissions counselor and she said that while they do give priority to continuing students, if it's between a MSMC pre-nursing student with a 2.5 and an outsider with 3.5, obviously they're going to favor the one with a higher GPA. So yes, if you are an average MSMC student, you could potentially be turned down. Also, make sure you note the repeat limit as it pertains to D's and F's. You can repeat ONLY ONE course if you receive anything below a C. Example, if you took Micro and Physio, failed them, took them again, got A's, you would still be ineligible. From conversations with staff, they have gotten very strict with this rule, just something to keep in mind. Here is directly from the MSMC ADN page: GENERAL STUDIES REQUIREMENTS Human Anatomy w/lab *4 Units Microbiology w/lab *4 Units Chemistry w/lab*3-4 Units Human Physiology w/lab *4 Units Speech 1013 Units English 1013 Units Lifespan/Developmental Psychology3 Units General Psychology3 Units General Studies Elective (Art, Music, Literature or History)3 Units Sociology3 units Philosophy- Critical Thinking3 units * Effective Fall 2009, a student may repeat a course required for the nursing major no more than once. Failure (C- and below) of any two required science or pre-requisite courses results in non-admission. Finally, I really wish I would have known just how competitive one must be when starting the road to nursing. I took Chem in the summer, got an A, but over-loaded myself with the rest of the sciences. I made the mistake of taking Anatomy, Physio, and Micro in a single semester. I guess I wanted to make up for time wasted. I got 2 B's and an A. Not bad, but certainly not good enough to enter any program directly. Plus I wasn't always as ambitious of a student as I am now and have a lower cumulative GPA. This really hurt my chances in getting into any community college or CSU. So my honest advice to you is if you really want to make it easier on yourself when it counts, take only the amount of classes/semester you KNOW you can handle and get A's. Trust me, I definitely would have spent 3 semesters taking the prereqs had I known. They say 2.5GPA, but that is truly the bare-minimum. So yeah, that's my advice and my Hope this helps.

I think that if you apply direct to ADN and you're denied they put you in prenursing. Obviously you have all the ADN core prereqs, your denial was a transcript issue (very lame btw) so I really do think you will get in for Fall. I believe they give priority to continuing MSMC students, so maybe you should take that religion course RST 41. That way you can have it out of the way before you even start ADN, you'll be given priority because you're a continuing student, and then you can get yourself a sweatshirt too. HA! On the other hand, like I've said before, I don't know your academic record, but you strike me as being a good student with a great GPA. Maybe you should just wait and apply to Community Colleges as well as MSMC for Fall. Decisions, decisions, right?

Any accepted spring ADN students out there?

Hey!! I'm so happy you're starting in the Spring. CONGRATS!!!!!:balloons: So I know it sounds crazy, being it's super expensive, but I was accepted to start in the ADN at MSMC in the spring. I'm so excited, though. Classes start Jan 11. I'm nervous, but really can't wait. I'm still going to keep my name on the list at SAC just to see how long it would have taken to enter. I predict another year and a half. Also, congrats on the baby!! You and your wife must be thrilled!! Keep in contact to let me know how your program goes. Just think, by 2012, we'll both be RN's. YAY!!

I know. It would have been so nice to be nursing buddies, but hey, I'm sure that you will get in for the Fall. Then I can give you a heads up on what to expect. :) I'm gonna be nerdy and go next week to get my books, and of course, some MSMC paraphernalia like a sweatshirt, mug, pens--you know, essentials. Hey munoz7rox, Thanks so much for the congrats, I'm so excited this is finally happening. You have no idea how much effort this took. Glad it worked out. MSMC is very pricey-- Here is the breakdown: Associate Degree in Nursing (2009-2010) Tuition (12 units)$8280 Per unit$690 College Service Fee$220 Nursing Fee$275 Health Insurance$1362/yr Factor in books, parking, gas, incidentals, I'm sure it's well over $10,000/semester. I know what you're thinking, sounds crazy, right? But look at it this way, you could wait 2-5 years and go to a community college, essentially putting your life on hold, OR you could pay around $40,000 and go directly into a program. And it's not like you would have to pay the entire amount. I qualify for a variety of financial aid help, you can get controlled loans that you won't have to worry about until after you start working, so really, it's very doable. I consider it an investment. My grades aren't terrible (refer back to my previous post ) but I have already been through a year of denials from other colleges, I'm older, and I'd like to get my life started. I will gladly pay to do this. I'd recommend you check it out and see if it's for you. Glad to meet you and good luck :)

Hi hauyoudoing, Did msmc contact you to take the TEAS? If they did and you took it, did they contact you for an interview? From my understanding, they were setting up interviews on November 25 and Nov 30. Could be more days, but those were the days that I was offered for my interview. I think there was something like, 72 spots available for spring. I would give them a call. It can't hurt. Trust me, I called them soooo much during this entire process. Call them, email them, do whatever just to let them know you're truly interested. I think that's what helped me; my relentless pestering since August. LOL Good luck to you!! :)

Hey vlove, I do have some exciting news to report: I was accepted!! It all happened so fast. Last Tuesday, someone from the nursing department called wanting to schedule an interview asap, as in the next day! This gave me little time to prepare but I just wanted to get things rolling. They emailed me a list of possible questions, very similar to our admissions essay so I wasn't that nervous. My interview was with one of the nursing administrators and was very conversational. She really just wanted to know about me, why I chose nursing, but really, it was very much about my interests. It was great, very easy going, lasted about 20 minutes and at the end she welcomed me into the nursing program! I had absolutley no idea I would be told then. Thought I would have to wait until nealry the end of December. It was a great early thanksgiving surprise. :-) I have a 3.54 science gpa,3.6 in overall core prereqs, 2.76 overall ( I know pretty bad but that's when I was younger ) and an 85.3 on TEAS. I have my MA back office certificate, but really I'm not sure how much that factored into their decision. Of course I don't know your academic standing, but I think that as long as you get them all the transcripts, you shouldn't have a problem getting in. Besides, I think they focus first on science gpa, core prereq gpa, and TEAS. I'm also fairly sure that once you get an interview, you're essentially in. Hello aehtela!! Thanks for the info. Do you know if we have to interview? I have read conflicting things. I want to say that there will be an interview, which I would actually love. I hope to hear from MSMC very soon. However, I was just accepted to a BSN program in Milwaukee, WI for less money than MSMC, but I mean, it's Wisconsin. LOL. I don't know, this acceptance changes everything now. I just feel that I've put SO much into MSMC, I don't want to give up. We'll see. It's nice having options. Did you take the TEAS at MSMC? When did you take it and how many took it with you? Did you find out what a competitive score is? Thanks so much for responding. It's very helpful. :)
