- What a coincidence. . .every single student nurse who shadows me. . .
The nurses and practitioners in my family have always pushed us to keep moving up the ladder. If I had the means, I would have gone straight through, but, that's just me. Its quite educational to see the points of view of my peers. Agree or disagree.- What a coincidence. . .every single student nurse who shadows me. . .
Well, I personally think is just fine to go nursing school with no intention of practicing in a clinical setting. If that was my choice, I would choose not to go become a PA because nursing gives you more choices. My cousin was gonna go to PA school after she finished her BSN, but has now enrolled to become a NP. I did my research, and I advised her to research becoming a PA instead. So, Hmm. I'm not fiesty about it. I personally would not tell someone they should be a PA or a doctor because they're not interested in practicing as a bed side care nurse.- What a coincidence. . .every single student nurse who shadows me. . .
Well, first, I'm not angry. :-). I'm not here to attack anyone, even if we disagree. Ok? And Secondly, I dont think that you and I disagree. I agree with your point of view. I thought your points were valid, and right on point. Well, except for me being "Angry." So, I'm sorry you misunderstood, and I certainly hope you have a good night. Ok. Alright...- What a coincidence. . .every single student nurse who shadows me. . .
Wow! Nurses can do more than bed side care. Jeez. Is it a crime if bed side care is not what you want to do. What about nurses that go right into imformatics? They are not real nurses? A friend of mine had a bs in biology, went right into research after getting her lvn? She isn't worthy of having a license now?- What a coincidence. . .every single student nurse who shadows me. . .
Great point. Seriously, I love my job, most of the time, but when I was a little girl, I didn't dream of becoming a nurse, even if I'm lucky enough to be one.- What a coincidence. . .every single student nurse who shadows me. . .
Wow, that is a really good point.- What a coincidence. . .every single student nurse who shadows me. . .
A nurse that wants to go from right into advanced practice is a nurse. Yes. You are not required to love, or practice bed side care. Period. Its very unfortunate when nurses take the position that you are some how not worthy of being a nurse if you don't spend several years at the bed side, the same bed side job that quite a few them secretly burnt off of practicing at. This is why we have specialties. I didn't care for labor and delivery, so im not a nurse because its not my thing as of today?- What a coincidence. . .every single student nurse who shadows me. . .
I personally would hate to be interested in a specialty, and the person responsible for training me, did not want me in the position for a reason other than unprofessional conduct, or something a long those lines.- What a coincidence. . .every single student nurse who shadows me. . .
Maybe I'm in the minority, but it wouldn't bother me what specialty someone wants to work. After all, its their license. I think its a personal choice. If, for some reason there is no room for them, their skills will transfer into another specialty. Right?- Pateint care tech?
You're welcome. Just remember that, no matter what route you take, it shouls be based off what YOU need and not others. Try to just use other people's experience as a guide. Don't sweat the small stuff. Pick one. You can't go wrong either way.- Pateint care tech?
Sounds like you work at one of the better hospitals. Lucky you. :-)- Pateint care tech?
Both have their advantages. Hospitals will often hire EMTs, Medical Assistants, and Patient Care Tech for entry level positions. You cant go wrong. If your goal is to become a nurse, all of these will help you get used to acute care, give you flexibility in your schedule, (perfect for moms), AND tuition reinbursment! Plus, good nurses will be more than happy to pass down gems that will help make becoming a nurse easier for you. You will see and participate in procedures in a non threatening environment, (and unlike myself, as a nursing student, you won't be terrified of your patients. :-) )- Pateint care tech?
If your goal is to work in acute care, this decision will be invaluable to you for so many reasons. Absolutely!- Failed Rn boards 4 times
I agree. When you help a inexperienced nurse, you help patients, then and for the remainder of that nurses practice. You help yourself also. Initially it's more work, but eventually it will pay for itself, and create less work, over and over again.- Failed Rn boards 4 times
Now here is the point, my advice, Eliminate and IGNORE, 2 answers= 50 percent instead of a 25 percent chance of a right answer When you become a nurse, you will see that you will encounter things you have no knowledge of, but still be expected to sink or swim. NCLEX is the same. Keep your patient alive! Airway, Breathing, Circulation, then whatever else. Triage! Do the most critical patients and procedures first! Assessment! Do not even think of doing any interventions until you assess your patient. Do not call that Dr. Until you have done every possible thing that does not require an order to stabilize your patient. When two answers are right, do the most immediate, and most effective first! If you need any help. PM me. I will help you. And maybe someone will help me when I need help.- Failed Rn boards 4 times
I could be wrong, but I think, if you have completed the ADN, you should only being taking the RN boards. The LVN boards will not be easier for you. The exam is to test that you are able to give safe effective care, pull concepts together, and think critically. (both exams) Study, and in this case, maybe a tutor, or possibly repeating some of the subject matter with your educational institution.- Surveillance cameras in pedi patient's home?
Lol. Too funny, but still I might just start leaving a half ejected tape in my VCR, if I ever buy one.- Surveillance cameras in pedi patient's home?
Clearly, this issue is important to all nurses. If I misunderstood what you said, and responded in error, accept my apology, but however, at no point was I angry with you or any other nurse. I think that defeats the purpose of the forum. -Peace- Surveillance cameras in pedi patient's home?
I totally agree. Watching you while you chew?- Surveillance cameras in pedi patient's home?
I'm not upset. Kudos to you for your experience as a nurse. I'm sure we all can learn great deal from you. On this issue, I stated my opinion. Sometimes it's difficult to determine the tone or position of a person with text only. I consider myself to not always be right, but to at the least, be able to provide a rationale point of view. Perhaps, I misunderstood your position because it seemed you were saying that there was "no right or assumption of privacy" Additionally, that nurses needed to defend the point of not wanting to be taped, because they should have nothing to hide. Nursing is ever evolving. I've been a nurse for over 3 years. It's almost a family tradition. As I many of the ladies in my family hold charge, and director positions in nursing. My aunts who have been nurses for over 30 years have forgotten more than I know, but evolution has also afforded me a few nuggets of my own that they not know, as well. I hope you, and other nurses like tothepointlvn continue to share your gifts with those of us who are beginning, learning, receptive , appreciative, of you talents, respectfully.- How can a ASN program be 2 years if you have to take prereqs and nursing classes?
Lol. This nearly turned into a philosophical debate? ASN- pre reqs + 2 years of nursing BSN- pre reqs+ (school of nursing core) + 2 years of nursing For a lot of people who have never been to college or going back, it will take them longer to get all of general Ed courses 1-3 years. The content of some of the nursing will change, as you progress in your degrees. I.e ASN students do not train, in school, to take charge positions, like BSN students, even though they do, in the real world, as do LVNs.- How can a ASN program be 2 years if you have to take prereqs and nursing classes?
The BSN takes 3-5 years, and generally requires more general education requirements than the ASN. - What a coincidence. . .every single student nurse who shadows me. . .
