  1. I'm making generalizations and yet you feel you know me well enough from reading only 2 posts that you can tell how I feel?? ? Now that's something to laugh about.... How can I word this in simplest terms as not to cause confusion? Ok ...here we go... I heard these comments made up and down this country since I've lived in every part and have driven to each corner North South East west..Lived in mobile Alabama...New Orleans ..Pensacola FL ...San Diego CA...NYC...Boston Mass..and overseas.. So from MY experience...(key word MY) I Noticed (and that's all it was...a simple note) that I heard more of these comments made during my time spent in the south. Don't know why....nor do I care to want to understand why... I was just simply stating what I "noticed" And I was asking MRRN of his location in hopes to see if we share similar experiences to maybe gain some insight in the matter.... I'm not labeling the south as insensitive ,redneck, hate mongrels.... No no no my dear fracture.... Im just sharing an unbiased observation based on my time on this earth. Hope you were able to understand my post...if not you may PM me for further clarification. I apologize to MrRN for hijacking his post with this exchange. Back on Topic: Again, MR RN I do hope your situation makes a turn for the best. Please keep us posted.
  2. WOW!! Peeeing on myself this is soooo funny!! Thanks for laughs!!
  3. It was my understanding that you need to be an RNFA-NP to be able to round ...write scrips..and see PTs at clinic? or is that what you mean by APN?
  4. I agree with Maeyken... Unless your current hospital will give you credit (i.e. Experience points for years of service) that could positively affect your starting salary then there is no point torturing yourself on a floor that you know you will despise. That will just through off your entire groove and may be detrimental to your patients. You could be in a bad mood..hating your job ..your coworkers…your patients …life…and accidently make a mistake. Your mood totally affects your performance. Yes, ultimately we are here for our patients…..but what good are you to your patient if you’re not “right” yourself? Good luck! Keep us posted…Have you decided on an OR specialty?
  5. wow! ok are you serious about yours??? never said anything about rednecks.... was simply asking geographical location and stating where i personally have heard frequent inappropriate remarks of homosexuality take place more so then other areas. are you female fracturenurse? (again..asking...dont want to assume ur male) if so you will never experiance the vernacular that is used by your male counter parts, surgeons, anesthesia, when there a no females with in ear shot. these comments are not tolerated anywhere! but in the right forum, unfortunately they are spoken everywhere including texas. its an unspoken taboo just like racial slurs..(not tolerated but spoken) and im not saying its just men as proven by the original post by mr.rn. not here to launch a long winded debate based on our individual experiences….just stating what iv come across and heard while traveling through the u.s. its ok that we don’t agree….thats what makes them individual experiences. mrrn…your current choice of action will be the easiest road to travel. unless your willing to take on an arduous battle through red tape and political b.s.to stand up for what you feel is right. there is no shame in “ getting in and getting out” live to fight another day... stay under the radar…get good references, build up that resume and move on sir!
  6. Im in the Neuro/ortho OR and we count for any large back cases. We do not count instruments for cranies…. But not to do a count during open bowel is an X ray waiting to happen….then a PSN report. I would go higher up the chain for a concrete answer to that. As far as the multidisciplinary style of orientation..its a common approach taken to give a slight Indoc to the other services….if you haven’t picked a specific specialty I imagine they will ask you after the year long internship, which specialty was more appealing to you. My indoc was 6 months and I “shuffled” from service to service for the first 4 months then was all neuro for the last 2. As far as the homosexual remarks. In our OR that’s never been an issue…I cant imagine with high rate of lawsuits that individuals would risk their licenses to make idiotic remarks. Do you practice in the South? I only ask due to my experience in the Military where remarks such as these were heard openly. Im sorry for your dilemma…hope it changes for the best!
