  1. HIPAA and Minor Volunteers

Hello all, Does anyone know what the law is for holding underage (17yo) volunteers responsible for HIPAA when they are working with PHI? Our IT has some concerns and I'd like to see the guidance on this to know for sure. Should we have her parents al...
  2. HIPAA and Minor Volunteers

Nope. We are a community health clinic. We have networks we work with, but we are our own entity, which started in pop-up tents 30 years ago
  3. HIPAA and Minor Volunteers

What is your concern with doing BP checks and basic scrubbing? She's 2 months away from 18 and will have the same liability as any adult. I can't imagine anything changing too much with her maturity or ability to learn in the next 2 months.
  4. HIPAA and Minor Volunteers

Great question. I have in the past and get lost in a rabbit hole of a phone tree. Once I did speak with someone and all she said was, "I don't know", not, "I'll find out". Maybe it's improved since then. Might try them again. Thanks for the reminder
  5. HIPAA and Minor Volunteers

She approached us, we don't have a designated program, per say. Again, we are very rural (located in a field, essentially, 40 minutes from the nearest hospital). We all wear many hats and have to contract out our legal services. I, like everyone else...
  6. HIPAA and Minor Volunteers

We are a small, very rural, primary care clinic. We have a local vocational school that trains CNAs and MAs. Some start classes in high school, which has clinical training as part of the program, so there has to be something they're using. I emailed ...
  7. ASN - can I get a job as a school nurse?

Next year, the school nurse at a small rural school near me will be retiring. I have already let them know last year my intent to apply and they were very excited about it. They asked me to volunteer to get trained and attend training with the school...
  8. Has anyone gone through San Juan College's nursing program? What did you think of it? I am trying to decide between this program and Pueblo Community College's (Durango, CO) for the fall. TIA!
  9. Elevated PT, but decreased INR?

Hi all, I had a pt. whose PT wa 12.6, but INR was 1.28 (just started warfarin). I am just a student RN, so I must be confused about how this works. Can one be increased while the other is decreased? Or do they normally correlate in the same direction...
  10. Elevated PT, but decreased INR?

Ahhh...ok. I see what happened. I wrote down his therapeutic range instead of the normal range. Sorry - still getting the hang of this. Thanks everyone!
  11. Elevated PT, but decreased INR?

Leslie - the norms for this pt. are PT 9.6-11.8 and INR is 2.0-3.0.
  12. Elevated PT, but decreased INR?

That's my confusion. Why is the PT above normal, but the INR is below 2.0? (Pt. is >60yo and 2d. post surgery) Although...it's been hard to get a straight answer about PT/INR levels in school. Mostly I keep getting that they are the same thing/go ...
  13. An Open Letter to (Micro)Managers

    That. was. awesome.
  14. Concorde

In AZ, there is the Banner Nurse Fellows program through the Maricopa Community College system. It is very competetive, but if accepted, they waive your tuition in exchange for a 3-year commitment to work in the Banner Health system after becoming an...
  15. RSAA Grads - peripheral question

I am starting the CNA program at RSAA tomorrow. They mentioned that we should bring ID, birth certificate and CPR cert, but I completely forgot to ask about what to wear and what to expect for lunch. Is there a cafeteria on site, take out nearby, or ...
  16. RSAA Grads - peripheral question

Thanks for asking! :) I LOVE it. It's mostly review for me as I've been through all of the nursing pre-reqs, but the instructors are fabulous and they take their Boards pass rate (highest in the state) very seriously. I would highly recommend this p...
  17. Gross me out!

I know this sounds crazy and morbid, but I would really like to be grossed out with tales of nursing downsides. Let me explain... I am really excited to be a nurse. I still have a year of pre-reqs before getting into my preferred BSN program. I guess...
  18. Gross me out!

Wow - that is all really, really disgusting. Thanks :) I have a pretty unnatural fear of something that would probably come up in nursing stories, and has. I'm hoping if I hear and picutre enough of this, I won't pass out right there if it ever hap...

  21. WOW! just moved to AZ BANNER Q's

ASU is switching to the TEAS because the company that distributes the NET was just bought and the new owners do not want to continue on with the NET. If this is true, then the changes will take place everywhere. It's probably best to talk to an advis...

  24. Older Student looking for e-mail buddies

Wow - there seems to be a lot of us! I'm 33, soon-to-be single mom with a toddler. It would be really nice to get support and encouragement, tips and tricks from other parents attending school. Might I suggest starting a Yahoo group or something sim...
  25. best NET study guide book?

sarah- You might want to check with your school. In AZ, we were just informed that they may be switching to the TEAS. When I spoke with an advisor, she told me it was because ERI (who created the NET) has been bought out by another company and that c...
