  1. I've been hired by Kaiser as a clinic LVN in the inland empire. There are more openings and postings all the time. My friend in San Diego also is working as an LVN at Kaiser, but through a registry. To my knowledge, there are no plans to shuffle around or eliminate LVNs, and its not that difficult to interview. Whether they hire you is another story. That is quite a process. I'm enjoying working there, the benefits are great, and I've heard nothing but great things about Kaiser from the patients. Alot of them are returning patients who say they got the run around with other HMOs and came back to Kaiser. Just my 2 cents at this point in time.... Crickett
  2. I didn't work when I did mine. Lots of women did. It was harder for them, and their grades weren't as high as the ones that didn't, but I realized that we "all" became nurses, no matter what we did along the way..... If you can balance work, time to study, and getting decent grades, you'll be fine. All the Best! Crickett
  3. I wasn't looking for a post reply "to my liking". I was simply trying to figure out the real deal with Kaiser. It is obvious that different areas have different things going on. I appreciate all of the replies and assistance in my quest for answers.... Thank you all......I do appreciate it. Crickett
  4. I'm really not trying to argue with anyone or debate the issue. I live in the desert in Cali, and they "are" presently hiring LVNs......since this is a union position, how can they somehow "get rid of" or "move into another position" an LVN....that doesn't make sense to me. Darn....I wish there was a Kaiser LVN reading this board to set us straight! Crickett:uhoh3:
  5. We'll see about that....time will tell I suppose.... Although.....there has been talk of doing away with LVNs for decades now, and they haven't. Talk is cheap. Thanks! Crickett
  6. I'm sure that could be right in the hopsitals, but what about in the clinics? They are still hiring LVNs there to my knowledge. Thanks! Crickett
  7. What about anyone who works for Kaiser??? Anyone out there?? Crickett
  8. I have heard good and bad about the care. I'm hoping to gain more insight on both the care and the company as a whole when you are an employee. Thanks! Crickett
  9. Hello, I'm searching to find out if any of you work for Kaiser as an LVN? I'm wondering what your experience has been, if you get to practice as an LVN or mostly in MA capacity, and most of all, if Kaiser has been a good company to work for. Help anyone? Thanks! Crickett
  10. Really.....San Fran is THE most expensive place to live....houses run 600,000+ and thats probably not in the best neighborhood. Most run a mil or more.....CRAZY....so $20 something an hr isn't doing squat there!! Crickett
  11. I am wondering..... What do you think would be the LVN job that would give the absolute highest pay we can earn as an LVN? Crickett :penguin:
  12. I have worked in 2 different clinic settings. It is common practice for scripts to be filled out by the LVNs and MAs. One office looked at the Rx and then signed it. The other clinic the Drs. trust you to know how to write it as they say it. Thats just the way its done. Never an issue, but yes, in a clinic you are under the Drs. license. Crickett
  13. I'm an LVN in a pain management clinic. I work pre-op putting in IVs (with an IV cert), and I also work in recovery taking out the IVs, charting, and making sure they are ok to leave. The only thing I don't do is push the abx if they need them prior to sx. I'm enjoying learning a new specialty. The thing that scares me most about pain management is I'm realizing how many people are out there driving around on narcotics!!! Crickett :penguin:
  14. I never got a call back from them, so I assume they hired someone else anyway. Oh, well! Crickett
  15. Thanks for the reply, I was wondering how they handle the clinical portion. Are you in California? How much does the program run? How long does it usually take? Is it at your own pace? Thanks for the discussion! Crickett
  16. I'm not concerned about the hmo. I'm concerned about the type of employer they are. No one here seems to know or work for them I guess. Crickett
  17. Hey there, I am wondering if anyone has done the lvn to rn online and been successful at it? If you did......how was the clinical taken or what were the requirements of it? Thanks! Crickett
  18. Hi there, Did you ever find out anything on Kaiser? I'm having the same dilemma! Thanks, Crickett
  19. Yes, they do. Regular M-F with weekends and holidays off. It is interesting. There are many things that go on in the body that cause dermatologic reactions. We do alot of skin cancer surgeries also, which is very hands on. You're right in there holding the skin tight for the Dr as they are cutting and stitching. Salaries are good...better than most, actually, but depends on the practice and the area you are in. Hope that helps! Crickett :)
  20. I am just wondering how come there is no forum in the specialty Nursing for Dermatology?? It is so much more interesting than some may think....anyone a Derm nurse out there??? Crickett :)
  21. I know this is off topic here, but I can't post where I want to....anyone else having this problem>???? Thanks!
  22. I feel your pain....I'm a new nurse too, and I left Med/Surg too after only 2 months and have never looked back. I worked nights, but we had the same thing....lights, Docs, setbacks, and leaving late. Too much stress......I left for a Docs Group and I have never been happier....go for it!
  23. Yeah, I hate dilemmas....darn career.....TOO many options! I'll work it out I'm sure...just don't know how it will go. We'll see. Thanks! Crickett
  24. Hello, I am currently working in Med/Surg in a hospital. I am a new grad, and have been working nights for about a month and a half. It is KILLING me!!! I hate it! My quality of life has gone down the tubes, since although I am only working 3 -4 nights (12 hr shifts from 7pm - 7am), it takes me at least 2 or more days to start feeling normal again. I'm not sure if this is due to the fact that I am over 40 (ha-ha). Anyway, I have been offered a position for less money with a prestigious Dermatology group. My life would again be my own, as it would be M - F, nights, weekends, and holidays off. My original intention was to do Med/Surg for a year, and then sign up with a registry to do maybe Tues, Weds, Thurs. 12 hr shifts. I know if I make this move, that will no longer be a reality for me, but I don't know how much longer I can manage to do the night shifts. The bags under my eyes are reaching my lips! (ha-ha!). I needed some advice and direction. My pros and cons list is about even. HELP!!!! Thanks! Crickett
  25. It sure looks like the concensus is pretty even. Yikes! Crickett
