  1. Finished my clinical hours this week at a local hospital. Met some awesome nurses and they were very encouraging. I only have praise for the re-entry program that I attended though the local community college. Just have to file all my paperwork and then the hard part---finding a job. :D:D
  2. I think you are naïve if you think your employer does not find out what you post online. Many will even do an internet search to see what you may have posted. There are numerous stories of people in many industries that check potential employees. If they see excessive partying or some one talking about playing hooky or talking about stealing from work they are denied interviews. Always assume anything you post on the internet in places like Allnurses or Facebook is now in the public domain.
  3. Check out the ACC course. I am taking it right now and meet a couple of nurses from the DFW area at the skill lab last Sat. SO far I have been very please and the instructors are very helpful. http://nurserefresher.austincc.edu/
  4. Here is a link to the program I am enrolled in. We had our first skill lab Sat and some of the nurses were from San Antonio. I think they have a cooridinator in San Antonio to help with the clinical hours and do the online portion with ACC. So far I have been pleased with the program. The Lab instructors were awesome. http://nurserefresher.austincc.edu/
  5. I am in a similar situation only add a few more years! I am currently enrolled in a refresher course. I am following this thread with interest! K
  6. They were at a news conference this week with Obama supporting the reform. Evidently the AMA and big pharm are too. I just wonder what kind of back room deals are going on.
  7. I posted the links because I am currently enrolled in the refresher course for RNs. Luckily I am in Austin but my course has nurses from all over Texas. It is run through the community college in their city. THe online course is taught through ACC with the clinical portion taking place in their city. I am sorry I don't know about the LVN course but I was hoping it might be somewhere for you to start gathering information. I am not familiar with other courses. I hope you find what you need. K :)
  8. :typingCheck the Texas board of nursing website. You might also check http://www3.austincc.edu/schedule/wcell/cenrv.htm or http://nurserefresher.austincc.edu/ Hope that helps K
  9. Phlox-- I can't send private messages yet. So far the ACC refresher has been a good experience. I have completed the orientation, the first two units and had one conference call. The faculty has been very helpful. I have not met any in person but they are very quick to answer emails and phone calls. I also needed to get my BLS and the ACC classes were full. They helped me find a class. So far so good!

I would like on too! THanks
  12. :yeah:I am excited for you! Go forth and learn!!!
  13. There are nurses from all over Texas in my class. The online class portion is handled at Austin Community College. They are enrolled through their local community college. They will do their clinical hours in their city. The website is http://nurserefresher.austincc.edu/ Hope that helps!:typing
  14. I am not sure where you are but the refresher course I am enrolled in is through the local community college. It is a 16 week online class with 2 lab days. Then you have to take a preceptorship of 72 hours in a clinical setting. You can take it concurrently. I choose to do the online theory this semester and the preceptorship next. I am in the second unit of the course (it is broken down into 8) So far so good! After I got over the initial panic of "Oh NO! I don't remember how to take a test!" I felt better. I am very intimidated by my other classmates! So far all have had experience in hospital settings. I am not really sure where I fit in since i never worked after graduation. Several of my nurse friends have been very encouraging though. It will be interesting to see where I end up practicing!
  15. Hello every one! I am new to the site. I graduated from nursing school many years ago, took state boards and then stayed home to raise my kids. I have decided to reactivate my RN liscence and the class starts tomorrow. I go back and forth between excited :wink2:and scared to death:confused:! I am glad I found this site and I am encourage to see I am not the only one returning to school!
