  1. We are starting our 2nd rotation in the 3rd semester of our ADN program and the talk of preceptorship is starting to get hot and heavy. I have a problem making a choice (sort of...I know what I would like to do, I'm just not sure how feasible it is). I came into nursing school very interested in hospice and palliative care. There is very little to be done about that in terms of preceptorship, however. Furthermore, as I have gone on in school, the other end of the care spectrum, ER and ICU/critical/cardiac care nursing is also really appealing. Psych also has captivated my interest, but it doesn't seem like a great preceptorship choice...I'm afraid my skills will go down the tubes and it will put me at a disadvantage, so I am disinclined to pursue that precept path. I'd love to cross-train ER and psych, that would be interesting, but I don't know that there is a provision for that in my environment. What is not appealing is 120 hours of med-surg after our 4th sem/rot 1 med-surg. There is more out there and, while I know you can't get enough m-s experience, I really would like to have a different experience, and one that is more aligned with where I would ultimately like to work. Any thoughts out there? Thanks for your help!
  2. I am having the same feeling. I've thought about all this stuff for many, many months, but that sure doesn't equate to doing it! I have to remind myself that, with 6 weeks of school and two clinical days, I should relax, realize that it will come in due course and cut myself a little slack. It's hard not to feel like I'm just in the way, but I learned so much in one hour just watching what was going on. Perhaps one also has to be a little assertive and get in there, regardless of the fear of screwing up...
  3. At last I will be starting my RN program. I am 52 (first post was on p. 36) and will be curious to see if I am the oldest in the class. I prefer to think of it as an abundance of life experience (no I don't really smoke....anymore).
  4. @Epiphany2000 done. I also PM'd but didn't see the sent message in my mail so I don't know if it sent or not.
  5. There are a couple of things you can do to increase your chances of success. One is to absolutely get the TEAS V manual and do at least two online practice exams to get used to the format. If the time factor freaks you out do NOT compulsively watch the clock; the test is more important than the clock. Also, there are usually two answer choices that are easily eliminated; if you're stuck, dispense with those to give energy to one of the more logical choices. Just my $.02 worth ;-)
  6. Just finished the test 45 minutes ago, so here are some more results to throw in the pool: Program Type: ADN Adjusted Individual Total Score: 89.3% ATI Academic Preparedness Level: Advanced Mean - National: 64.3% Mean - Program: 64.9% Percentile Rank - National - 98% Percentile Rank - Program - 99% Reading Adjusted Individual Score 97.6% Mathematics A.I.S. 90% Science A.I.S. 85.4% English and Language Usage A.I.S. 90% Sad to be thought of as less than exemplary, but they just haven't gotten to know me ;-)
  7. We are waiting to hear at CCC as well. They feel very confident that the funding will come through, but it would be great to know so that our schools (and we) can know what's coming.
  8. I hope this is OK to do. This is the RN list from LMC. Apologies to the mods if this is a problem.
  9. Chucky, check your inbox ;-)
  10. PM me your email.
  11. check your inbox ;-)
  12. @LovinLife28, @hellowelcome and @Epiphany2000, please check your inbox :-)
  13. I don't know if you saw the response on the other thread, but I will be there. Check your inbox as I sent you a PM.
  14. I sent you a PM, but you will have to email a response to me, since you have to have 15 posts to send a PM. If you email me back I will check for you :)
  15. For those who are interested, the eligible student numbers are posted on the LMC Nursing entry doors for Fall 2012. There appear to be approximately 375 eligible RN applicants and about 40-50 LVN-RN applicants.
  16. The email just arrived, and the wait continues ;-)
  17. Thanks for the update!
  18. I have yet to receive the email. Did it mention whether they were posting the qualified applicant student numbers as they did last year?
  19. Thanks for the update on all the activity, it sounds like the N dept. has a full plate. If last year's timing is any indicator, perhaps there will be news in the next couple of days. I received my letter announcing the 2011 lottery on May 19th last year. The very nice clerk in the Nursing office said as of this morning that the Admissions dept. was still reviewing apps, which sounds as though there must be quite a few!
  20. You will not receive email from Ohlone. They emailed the 22 selected for Fall 2012, the 22 for Spring 2013 (first tier alternates) and, perhaps, the next 35 alternates last week. The full list was published here yesterday: http://www.ohlone.edu/instr/nursing/docs/20122013lotteryresults.pdf You will find yourself at 139. I was at 177, which proves I have consistency with finding myself at the low end of many lotteries :-P Best of luck once again to those selected, it appears to be a very fine program.
  21. There has been no recent communication from LMC, and the recording in the N dept. says that no date has yet been set for selection (they should get to it already!!). Perhaps she didn't meet reqs or something about her app was incomplete (?) The recording says that they will email/snail mail when the date is announced.
  22. The list finally posted about 10 minutes ago. I am very very far down
  23. If it is any consolation--and it probably isn't--my last year was like this: I applied to College of Marin, Contra Costa and Los Medanos. At Marin I was 226/237 applicants, at CCC I was 59/70 on their alternate list, an at LMC I didn't even make the alternate list. I was very discouraged and, since I am older than most students here, doubly frustrated in my mind, as one year missed is a year of experience that I will never be able to acquire. This year, I added Ohlone to my schools. I appear to be no-go from Ohlone, though I would be encouraged to see myself as a Spring alternate (would have to be in the top 100 most likely). I also found losing out on Ohlone to be disappointing, particularly because of the hoops...the reading placement test, the mandatory counseling session, the mandatory information session to pick up the application and then the hand-carry to submit the appilcation, which represented about 11 hours and 350+ driving miles for me. Plus, the facility is amazing and it makes one feel like they are in the 21st century of education. I am again no-go from Marin (144/189), and LMC has yet to select. I have a glimmer of possibility this year, at 5th of 40 alternates from CCC -- I am hoping that some students choose other schools or the school receiving some anticipated additional funding. Bottom line: if this is what you want to do, hold on, even though the ride can be very painful at times :uhoh21:.
  24. I left a message at Health Sci but the call was not returned. Thanks for the information!
