I would highly suggest going to look on Wake Forest website. They give you specific guidelines on what you can do to make yourself a more competitive candidate. Applicant Self-Assessment Tool - Wake Forest School of Medicine My scores were also very middle of the board. (3.3 GPA and 306 GRE) However, I had other things that helped to make me a stronger applicant. I had taken a few graduate level classes (pathophysiology and pharmacology). This proved that I could successfully complete grad level coursework. I was active in nursing organizations, held a position on the board of directors. Obtained CCRN. Gained experience in 2 different ICU's (Neurosurgical and Surgical/Trauma - Level I). Shadowed both a CRNA and Anesthesiologist and talked about the experiences in my essay. I applied to 5 programs and was invited to interview at them all. I ultimately chose to interview at 2 of them and cancelled the other 3 because I had already received offers of admission from 2 very good programs. So even if your numbers are not that impressive there are other things that you can do to help make you a stronger candidate. Best of luck with your applications!

I recently applied to the Adult-Gero Acute Care NP with RNFA. I am located in Atlanta, GA. It states on the website that it only takes 30 days for decisions to be made. However, I don't wanna get my hopes up that I'll hear back before Thanksgiving. I think before Christmas would probably be more realistic.

I'm originally from Louisiana....but I had already been living in ATL for 3 years when I started the program. So I've been here for almost 5 years now.

Hey...I didn't apply for the Fuld but I asked one of my friends who did. She said eventually they did receive notification that they had not been awarded the scholarship. However, by the time they received the notification it was like a few weeks before school so she basically already knew that she hadn't gotten it at that point.

Congrats to all of those that have been accepted! I finished the ABSN portion in August and I definitely know I made the right decision by choosing to attend Emory. If anyone has any questions feel free to post or PM me....I know this can be a nerve-wrecking time making decisions on which school to choose and also considering financial aid options. Hey I interviewed on Thursday as well for the Med Surg Residency. I was invited to interview about 2 weeks after I applied. @edwindelahiggins would you mind posting on here once you here back so that I can know when to expect to hear from them as well.

mandawyatt - Most people in my class have Apple products....So mainly Macbooks and iPhones

@mandawyatt - Yes everyone does participate in the immersion trip its apart of your grade for your community health class. @danceluver - For the ABSN program you graduate the first week in August and you start the MSN program about the 3 week in August. So you have about 2.5 weeks to decompress. With the BSN-MSN Segue program then you May, June, July, and part of August to decompress and study for the NCLEX. When you're in the ABSN program then you take the NCLEX usually around August/September. You must have passed the NCLEX by the time that you begin your Master's level clinicals. Also....keep in mind that if you want to take a semester or two off between the Bachelors and Masters then you must reapply to the program.

@silvrdove 1. Yes, last year's ABSN class had about 8 people decide not to continue into the Master's. Yes, you will be awarded a BSN in August whether you decide to continue or not. 2. Everyone in my class lives off campus. About 1/3 of my classmates are married and about 1/3 of my classmates live together in a house-share or apartment share. 3. Most of the time we study independently. However, when there is a test coming up then temporary groups will form. And last semester my clinical group (about 7 people) decided to form a study group together for one particular class. 4. Even though Emory does have a beautiful campus. I'll be honest with you.....95% of your time will be spent in the School of Nursing or the Cafe...and possibly the library. The way the campus is designed all the healthcare buildings are on one side of the campus. So you really don't have a reason to venture into main campus with the exception of when you're going to Emory University hospital for clinicals.

Okay Wow! You guys just threw a ton of questions at me. LOL! But I don't mind answering at all. I was in your shoes just a year ago and I know how exciting this time can be and how many unanswered questions there also are. 1. The immersion trip happens during your last semester. That way you will have developed your clinical nursing skills and can contribute to the patient care. You get to rank your choices but its up to the professors to place you. Also beside the 3 international locations there are also 3 stateside locations: Moultrie, GA; Atlanta, GA; and West Virginia. Each locations focuses on something different. Example the Dominican Republic focuses on midwifery and Moultrie, GA focuses on the migrant farm workers which is great for those who specialize in Family. 2./3. As I understand there aren't any students from the previous ABSN class who are working currently while in their Master's. It may be difficult to work during the Master's because you have class 2 days a week and clinical which normally take up at least 2-3 days a week. So it may be difficult to find an employer who will be willing to work around that schedule. I know there are several people in my class who would like to work during the Master's and so they may decide to do the Master's program part-time so that they can work. The first ABSN/MSN class will graduate from the Master's portion in August so right now it is unknown if they have had difficulty finding employment.

There are pluses and minuses to each program....BSN vs ABSN. Example BSN students have the opportunity to do summer externships. But as an ABSN student we have all get to do 2 weeks of an international summer immersion trip at no cost to us. Yes...Bahamas, Dominican Republic, or Jamaica for FREE! And there are many more pluses to the ABSN program that I could dive into however the biggest advantage is that I'm almost done and I'll be graduating at the end of the summer instead of the BSN class who has another 16 months of school left.

I would be applying as a PNP/MSN candidate. Do you know anything about the number of slots for the PNP's or are the 6 slots for all NP's regardless of specialty? Thanks!

To the 2 people that applied for the HPSP (Angie Bee and Nurse Rich) I'm thinking of applying for the HPSP for the next fiscal year. So would you mind giving me an idea of what your stats looked like. Example...prior nursing experience? prior military service? have you already been accepted in to an MSN program? And any other additional information that you have to include with the packet. I'm not sure what exactly the board is looking for but I want to make sure that my packet is as competitive as possible. Yes the DNP does qualify for the HPSP. The AF started offering DNP scholarships a little over a year ago. So nursedarleen I would suggest applying for the HPSP.

In the past applicants with a Bachelor's degree (in another discipline) were allowed to apply for the HPSP. However last year they changed the application process. Currently only BSN-RN are able to apply for the HPSP. Hope that answered at least 1 of your questions!

Nope I haven't heard anything. But I've decided that I'm just going to attend Emory. I've already started buying my supplies and books for Emory. So even if I do receive a call from Vandy at this point I would turn them down.

The information that I received was only in regards to the PNP (Primary) waitlist. Sorry I don't know anything about the FNP waitlist. So example the 15 people that I was referring are on the PNP (Primary) specialty list. Best of luck everyone!

@gohs: Not sure which specialty you applied to but I applied to Peds (Primary) when I called to ask I was told that the procedure usually goes like this..... There are about 15 people on the waitlist. Each year they typically pull anywhere from 1-4 people from the waitlist. The list is not ranked so whenever someone rejects the committee reconvenes to review all the waitlisted applications and then makes a decision about who to offer the open slot to. They notify you be phone call if you've been pulled off the waitlist. Typically slots will open up mid-late March when people initially decline. Then they will open up again in mid-April after people receive financial aid offers and decide Vandy is too expensive for them.

I had my letter in the mail today as well. I applied to the PNP-primary care specialty. It didn't have good news or bad news.....I got waitlisted. However they said their waitlist sometimes doesn't clear until July. Which I've been accepted to Emory's program which starts in May. So if the waitlist cleared in June/July then I wouldn't be able to go to Vandy. Hopefully I'll hear something before May cause Vandy is actually my #1 choice. But Emory is a great school as well and I'm grateful that I got accepted somewhere.

@NashTNguy: Please let us know as soon as you receive your letter. You'll prolly get your letter a day or 2 prior to those of us out-of-state. By the way...what specialty did you apply to?

For those of you who haven't heard anything back yet.....I would take that as a good sign. I got a rejection letter on Friday. Thank God I've already been accepted to Emory so I wasn't too disappointed. But good luck to those of you still waiting to hear back!
