  1. i know how you are feeling right now...........going through the same thing, lots of broken promises from recruiters. Even had one recruiter tell me i was being too picky and should just take what they have when all i am looking for is a med/surg position at a hospital that treats you with respect and some decency.
  2. just from word of mouth........it is a definit nono. I had a friend take them to court because they were messing around with her paycheck and refusing to pay her.
  3. just a little info............starting sometime in june or july of 2004 all nurses will have to do the visa screen and the nclex. It really is a pain and will probably deter alot of candians from coming to the states, but don't give up. Once all the paper work is done, it is an amazing experience. check out this website and get started on the paperwork if you want. http://www.cgfns.org good luck!!
  4. never come to the ER with a broken off chair leg stuck up your rectum and tell the doctor you were running through the house and tripped on it when there is a condom on the end of the chair leg. thank goodness he didn't rupture anything. But my friend did make copies of the film just as a memory!!!
  5. one things about recruiter............i posted my resume on the CNA website stating what i wanted and where i wanted to go and the canadian recruiters contacted me for jobs in the states. They were the best at helping me out in preparing me for the big move and helping me with all the crazy paperwork. They can be a bit pushy at times too, but make sure you stand your ground. Tell them what you want!! I have a few good recruiters if you want PM me. I would be more than happy to share.
  6. Moving to the states is a really big move, but the chance of a lifetime. I recently made the move to california and have been down here for 9 months. It is the best experience ever. Just a few words of advice 1) research the hospital and the area before you take a job offer 2) recruiters will always make their hospital sound like the best place ever, but try and talk to people that work there. 3) try take a tour of the hospital 4) you are going to get homesick, everyone does, but give it a chance for at least 6 months...if you still hate it by then, move on. 5) NEVER sign a contract. That is the only reason i moved down here is because i didn't have to sign a contract. I can leave when i want and it is amazing. 6) don't get discouraged by all the paper work and all. Just be persistent. Even i am getting scared about the new cgfns visa sreening they are putting us through, but i know we can do it. 7) sometimes it is not all it is cracked up to be........they work you hard down here, with the new ratios it is a bit better, but i still run non stop some days. The patients are definitly sicker down here for the most part. Hope this helps.
