CuriousChrys - what an exciting venture. Your age surely will not trump any of the desires you wish to take on. In my case before getting accepted in the nursing program we had to obtain CNA licensing. At first I wondered why they required this but after going through with the CNA program I now understand why. Many of the students after going through the CNA program opted themselves out of the nursing program. They figured out after going through the CNA program that nursing was not for them. Therefore, I would suggest going through the CNA program first. Then you can transition to a CNA position. If you desire to continue move on to the LPN program or nursing school. Here in IL LPN is utilized in nursing home/skilled nursing facilities. Most hospitals do not utilize LPNs. You have to see where your interest lies and what your state utilizes at each perspective location you so desire to work. CNA is definitely a good start. See where it goes. If you continue to enjoy it utilize the skill sets you learn. In regards to working while going to school gauge it as you continue with your classes if finances allows. In my case I adjusted my work hours according to the difficulty of the clinical rotations. As you continue before you know it you'll either be a licensed LPN or RN. As a career changer myself I started with the CNA then I hit a fork in the road I can either get my LPN and stop or just continue and obtain my RN. I chose the CNA to RN. The reason I opted not to take the LPN route was I didn't want to be limited to nursing homes/skilled nursing facilities. But most importantly I wanted no option for me at the end but to have my back against the wall and have no choice but to obtain my RN license. I wish you luck and continued success in any endeavor you choose.

What a hard lesson to learn if you are not able to get back in the program. However, if you are able to appeal fight for your life state only the facts that pertain to you and your situation.

Best of Luck...take it one question at a time - concentrate only on that question that is front of you. Try not to look at your time remaining and the number of questions you are answering. Just move from question to question and focus only what comes before you...when you see that blue screen your done -- the gray screen is for breaks. GOOD LUCK. :thnkg:

I am also an auditory learner and a friend who passed the boards last year gave me this CD series titled Everything you need to know about the NCLEX-RN (32 cds), published by Meds plus Pharmacology Made Easy Series (8 audio cds). Each volume contained several discs. Give it some thought maybe you can use this in addition to what you are doing. They are both costly items. You might be able to find some used online on ebay. I don't know where you are from but the series she had given to me I'm donating them to the nursing school I graduated from here in Illinois. I'm giving it to my favorite instructor who I know will be able to create a borrowing system for it at the school so that others can use them to help pass boards. My good friend had given them to me to help me pass so now I have to pay it forward.

simi001 - What kind of study materials do you conventionally use? Are you a visual or auditory learner?

Hey Everyone, Congrats to all who recently passed their NCLEX-RN boards! I have as of today joined the club of Registered Nurses. I have been checking the PVT everyday since I have taken the test this past Tues, Aug. 18th. I did get the infamous pop up but I was still skeptical because most of the thread were from Cali and I'm from Illinois which participates in the quick results. Seeing the infamous pop up did give me a sense of relief and less anxiety than if I didn't know about the "PVT Trick" during these past two days. I still however ended up paying the $7.95 for the quick results because I thought maybe for me this "PVT Trick" will not work. In the end it all work out thank the heavens above that I PASSED. Hello Everyone, I just recently joined allnurses.com and saw this support thread. I'm sorry by starting in right away asking for everyone's prayers. I will be taking my boards on August 18th 2009 and it will be my 2nd time. I am so nervous to say the least. I would like to ask everyone to please send over your prayers as I continue to study and I will also in turn pray for everyone who is scheduled to take their test as well. We all would like to pass so that we can move on with our lives'. I pray that with grace we can all start using what we have learned for the greater good as Registered Nurses.
