  1. If you're a RN it shouldn't be much of a problem as France and Québec have signed an agreement to mutually recognize the Diplôme d'Etat d'Infirmier or State Degree in Nursing (General Nursing). Did you send an email to the French nursing Board (Ordre des Infirmiers)? They are the ones who can give you all the answers. Usually, it's much more the other way round: french nurses going to Québec because of better conditions than in France.
  2. Look up Aide Soignante for the French equivalent.
  3. :bookworm:Google: internationalsos.com
  4. If you want to work in Switzerland you got to get your degree recognized by the Swiss Red Cross, then ask the Canton's Health administration the documents needed in order to apply for eligibility. An other possibility is to apply directly to a hospital or agency> The agencies take care of all the paperwork needed for you as immigrant. One thing remains common in all countries: you better get some experience BEFORE applying abroad. And another thing you got to keep in mind is that nursing sometimes differs a LOT from nursing in the USA.
  5. Hi! I agree with Fiona59. Here in DRC I work with paramedics from SA and they tell me the same story: pay isn't good, crime rate is straight horrendous, life expensive and getting worse if you got kids. Schoolsystem is going down the drain in the public sector, semi-private scools are expensive and private schools are REALLY expensive in regard to what you earn as a nurse. Corruption is rife throughout all levels of the public sector... I'd be you, I'd give some REALLY serious thought about emigrating there, despite the country being marvelous for a lot of other reasons, first of all it being Africa.
  6. Hi! Did you manage to get a job in your region?
  7. Hi! InternationalSOS, the company I'm presently working for here in DRC has at least one clinic that I know of in Afghanistan. The staff ther works on a 4/4 rotation schedule.
  8. Licensing is not that much an issue. It depends VERY much on the place where you're going to work. In Africa, no licensing is required since you're hired by a private employer who's supposed to hire you on a qualifiaction basis. In middle eastern countries you might need a license if you work for the governement. In europ, you gotta get your degree recognized and then get your license.
  9. Well, working visa comes second: you gotta get hired first, then you can apply four a work visa because you need at least a Letter Of Invitation from your employer or his local representative. Here in DRC for instance you start with (preferably) a business visa, then your employer takes your passport to Customs and Immigration to get you a work permit (process lasts at least 3 weeks).
  10. Well, there's a tool called google.fr!

  12. Hi! What's your experience? Most of these companies hire only experienced people with a couple of special or extra skills: OR,PACU,ICU/CCU, PHTLS,ACLS,ALS, etc... Let's start with that and then we'll see what's possible.
  13. Hi! Where do you live in France? Employment varies a lot depending on the regions where you live;
  14. Hello all! Wood isn't always porous, it depends of the tree species it is gained from. Besides, before it is used under any form, it undergoes different kinds of treament in order to provide it with or enhance its natural possibilities of use. If its density allows it to absorb body fluids, it will absorb cleaning and decontaminent agents too. And the autoclave vapor as well... This doesn't mean that it should be or remain a standard practice to use instruments containing wood. Furthermore, if you don't have anything else it will do. They did the job in the past and as far as I can remember there weren't more infections than nowadays. Nevertheless, the argument you've been hammered with is the excuse of the stupid :wacky:or narrow minded ! Practices have to be evaluated on a regular basis. If a process that has been used for ever proves to be faulty it has to be changed. That's common sense and standard practice in every industry. This doesn't mean that everything that's new is gold either. mankind, especially nowadays tends to be overenthousiastic about new things or practices: just take a look at your next best known geek:borg: ! It is not always easy to remain cool headed and say let's wait a bit and see what the results are over time. But as one of our French philosophers (it's pascal if I remember wel from highschool) said: "Common sense is the most widespread yet the most poorly shared matter". Don't worry about that. Offer the surgeon first the wrapped ones;), keep the coils nearby and them over only if he/she really wants them; that way you'll be on the safe side:)! I hope that my little post will help you.
  15. Hi! Could you please describe these spools in a more precise way or upload a picture? What are they used for in hip surgery? Thx.
