any phil. heart cntr RN or has work there befor
@cool_nurse: I got a little confused about who you were referring to because I'm a girl. Haha. Anyway, it's okay. Yup, I believe right now it really takes that long to be called up. New orientees are hired almost every other month BUT they applied loooooong before you did, probably around 2-3 years ago. So that's the reason why it takes too long, too many applicants. :) Yes, PHC is fair to those without "backers", and I am a good example of that, as long as you pass all the necessary requirements, exams and interviews. But of course, just like anywhere else, if you know someone on the inside then maybe the wait will be not be too long, but it will still take about a year for the whole process to be finished. You will still have to through all the things that the other applicants went through. About the salary? I wish I could answer outright but I don't think it would be respectful to my institution if I simply disclose contract details like that in the internet so freely. I apologize for this. I guess I'll just say that it is competitive with some call center agents' salaries, higher than private hospital nurses, typical of government hospital nurses, but of course, still very low if compared to the rest of the world.

I'm currently working in PHC. :) To answer cool_nurse's question, it varies. Some wait only a year to get in, but I think nowadays the normal wait is around 2-3 years. For example: 1st month -- submitted required documents. After one week, psych exam and initial interview @ the HR. There's also a clinical exam but I can't remember if it was after a month, or within the first month. After a year (mine took a year and a half) -- If you passed the clinical exam and HR interview, and your credentials look good (board rating is okay, requirements are complete, HR impression is positive), then you will be called up for a panel interview with Division heads. After passing the panel interview (if you do, congratulations! It's nerve wracking and intimidating, but the questions are reasonable), the waiting time for the final interview is around 1 week to 1 month. After the final interview, I think the new policy is that there is another panel interview but questions are non-nursing related anymore, basically it's about your work ethic, stress management, etc., and this is conducted by various members of the PHC family (administration, employees' association, etc.) And then the wait begins for the orientation I think waited 2-4 months after passing my final interview before I started my orientation. So yeah. It's a grueling wait, but it's worth it. I don't have a so-called "backer", and the employment process here is fair, unlike other hospitals in Metro Manila nowadays where you can't even get an interview if you don't know anyone "inside". I understand how difficult it is to find a nursing job. To new grads and new board passers, I suggest that right after getting your PRC license or even just your basic requirements like board rating, diploma, etc., apply immediately in your hospitals of choice to start the process. This is what I did the first month after passing the NLE. I went to PHC and submitted my credentials, and did the same for other hospitals. Then, while waiting, I volunteered in various QC hospitals to strengthen my skills and expand my knowledge. I also attended a bucketload of seminars. Now I'm in PHC, I enjoy the good enough basic salary and so many trainings that are given for free for their staff nurses. I wish you guys all the best!

BLS, ACLS, IVT training
I recommend CCNAPI for BLS and ACLS. =) I had a great time at Red Cross, but it took so long before I got my certificate.. and the wait was even longer for the BLS ID. I don't know much about IVT Trainings nowadays. I had my seminar and completion at UST Hospital early this year and was lucky to get slots for the next scheduled training, but I hear that now, the registration is already quite backlogged and it might take months before one can actually start.

immigration question for US citizens taking up BSN in the Philippines
I don't think I can really answer your question but I'll just share with you this: I had 2 groupmates who are US Citizens and studied and graduated here in the Philippines. I think they got tired of going back and forth (It was, I think, required for them to come home to the US at least once a year or every six months? I'm not really sure), and also of the expenses of travelling, so both of them eventually applied for dual citizenship by our 2nd or 3rd year. After that, they were basically free to do whatever they wanted. Hehe.

Employment process @ St. Luke's Medical Center (e.rod)
Hi Eosinophil. =) I'm not entirely sure about their screening process but I guess all I can say is that you have to be patient for now. I, and the people I have talked to when we took our IQ and Clinical tests submitted our resumes (etc.) last May and June. So that took almost 5-6 months before we were texted to report for the exams. It was mentioned by the HR personnel however that they have chosen us from thousands of applications submitted; However, I do not know what the criteria for selection is. Just keep on applying in other hospitals for the meantime and keep checking your phone for any messages. :) Don't lose hope! I almost gave up hope on SLMC but their SMS came when I least expected it. :)

Employment process @ St. Luke's Medical Center (e.rod)
^Hey burbeestar:D I just finished with the Skills Validation / Panel Interview yesterday. Apparently, 20 more slots are needed for the NSET Batch that will start this month or next month. 11 of us passed yesterday, and we were told to wait for the schedule of our final interview that might be held next week or the week after that. Any ideas if there will still be a huge "mortality rate" after the final interview? You're right, the screening process has been very swift. So many things happened this week--I got a text on Wednesday saying that I'll be taking the Initial set of exams the next day (Thursday), and out of 25 who took the IQ test, 3/4 went on to the next 'round'. After that, only 10 or 11 passed the Clinical Exam. We were then told to return the next day for the Skills Validation (Friday). So yesterday, 17 were supposed to come but only 15 were in attendance. 11 made it through. We're all hoping that our final interviews will be a success, too. It has been a very nerve-wracking week. But the sense of relief that washes over you after you find out that you passed is worth it I hope all goes well with your medical exams too, and congratulations!

AFP medical center RN residency
I, too, have gone to check several times. Sighs. I have a feeling that the results will be out this week, though. Maybe there was a high volume of applicants for this batch, so it's taking them a long time to release the results? Any ideas?

Looking for Nursing Experience Paid or Volunteer in Manila
Apparently, the results will be out on Monday (July 6). This is according to a friend who dropped by V. Luna the other day to ask. I hope we both get it, but I'm not expecting too much because my friend has staff backing her up (she's the daughter of a retired General, and her family knows a lot of people working in the hospital) while I don't. Ugh. Poor civillians. Haha.

AFP medical center RN residency
My friend went to V. Luna the other day, and according to one of the training staff, the results might be released on Monday, July 6. If anyone else has information about this, please let us know too. I hope I make the cut, but I'm not counting on it too much because I don't have any backers:lol2:

Basic ECG Course
I'd have to agree with nars1019. I took the Basic ECG Course at the H.E.A.R.T. Foundation and it was quite difficult to understand the concepts because the doctors who lectured basically seemed to expect us to instantly comprehend such difficult concepts. I had to study a lot on my own before taking my ACLS course. I decided to inquire at CCNAPI and registered there. I'm very happy that I enrolled there instead. This doesn't mean that the ACLS course in CCNAPI is easier, though; we'd really have to memorize a lot of things, but it's all worth it in the end. I even wish that I took my ECG Course at CCNAPI instead.
