Take pool position or wait??
I have an interview this week (yay!) for a Pool LPN position working in psych/chemical dependancy. I do have chemical dependancy experience-although i currently work at a methadone clinic which is waaaaay different then a recovery center, i assume. My issue is I need a full time job. I have a toddler in daycare and also have bills to pay like everyone else. This job sounds really good but the Pool shift kinda scares me. I mean, how do you guys who work pool pay all your bills? I know its not impossible but how does it work? I know every place has a different definition of 'pool'. The lady on the phone told me they would call me when they need a shift to be covered and i could say no if i couldnt work it. I told her I'm concerned b/c i need a full time position. She said that I can always apply for a full time position with the company. I'm going to the interview anyway to get more info, but if theres any nurse out there in a similiar situation please let me know! Thanks!

I have ADHD.Can I be a nurse?
I am so happy to have read this thread! i am a new nurse and have just realized that i may have ADD myself, though i have not yet been diagnosed. Most of my life I've struggled with self esteem due to the fact that i always felt as if i couldnt focus, i was so disorganized, and felt as if i was very 'absent minded'. I would often get picked on by my co-workers, who at times called me names like 'airhead', etc. I found it difficult to understand how to them i was an airhead, yet i was always in honors level courses in school, frequently receiving A's and being ahead of my peers. A nurse at my new job recently made a comment about how he felt i had an 'attention problem'. I was a bit insulted at first, but then after doing some research i came to realize he was right! I have 90% of the symptoms and began to wonder, if diagnosed, how would i ever make a good nurse? After reading this I know that it is possible to continue my plan into becoming an RN. I feel lilke I have some of my self esteem back :loveya:

Anyone from Galen College of Nursing in Tampa Area
well thats actually the reason a lot of people want to go there so bad-bc of the great pass rate. but what you dont know is that the reality is very very different. in order for them to keep that pass rate, they pretty much get rid of everyone they think might not get a good grade on their nclex. im telling you right now, the only way you can pass is if you really really really want to be a nurse, bc its THAT stressing. and i know a lot of friends who go to different nursing schools and they think im joking when i tell them what goes on over here...again, i DONT recommend it-we have lost about 70% of the class so far...
