Is nursing a realistic career for a person with autoimmune disease?
Hi buffaloMom, 3rd shiftGuy is right nursing is very stressfull. I have not heard of any schools that allow for a slower pace or that are not abusive. I have been an rn since 1989. I suffered abuses in school like everyone else. TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEALTH. It sounds like you are in a career that you love. It also sounds like you are helping a lot of people that need extra care to acheive a wellness state that can not be reached thru physical therapy or other therapy. As a suggestion : maybe cotract with Dr.s offices about the dr referring their pts to you for exercise and fitness help. This might increase/ stabalize your income until the economy turns aroud. I understand about the economy as I own a small buisness and have to work in nursing and the buisness due to the economy. Consider everything carefully/ prayfully. May God give you the right answer for you. GOdd Luck and God Bless.

What does your post name reflect about you?
My sign on is a variation of a nickname. M y husband started calling me triscuit while we dated. over the years it was shortened to misty or Ms. T. I use mst on every thing internet. On the other sites I have numbers behind the name that also mean something but I shortened it to MST here.

Heavy menstrual bleeding...
Lisa, I understand what you are going thru. I have always had long and heavy periods. The Dr.s keep telling me everything is ok but I have my doubts. I am close to your age and hope maybe the oppisite might happen and the bleeding slows down. I have to get up at night every 2 hours to change the both super overnight pads and the underwear and sometimes the linens. I don't use tampons because I will still have to wear the pads any way. I will gush with every movment : ie standing up , walking, or turning in bed. All this is normal for me. All I can say after several DR.s and lots of infertility is hang in there and SEE YOUR DR for hormone levels. Good Luck, and eats lots of iron rich food to keep H&H up.

and the problem is..........?
Hi All, These are very funny stories. here is one for you. This happened several years ago as I am not in Floor nursing any longer but still in nursing. You must all understand the pt walked in. Pt came in for a diagnostic test . during admission assesment. Nurse: do you have any history of previous surgeries. Pt: Yes. I had my neck fussed to my hip. Nurse: I do not think that that happened. PT: Yes it did dr fussed the neck to the hip. Nurse: pt you are ableto walk normally. There is no way you could walk with that type surgery. PT: that is what the dr. did. I tried no to laugh and had to leave the room and go to the break room to recompose myself to finish the H&P. Wife also started laughing at what pt said. Fortunately for me pt also started laughing when he realized wha he said. We did clarify the surgery e actually had. :chuckle :roll

Ghostly experiences??
Hi all, This is a great threard. I have been enjoying all the stories work related and personal. I believe in this type of thing. I have had way to many experiences with this area not to believe. I have had episodes of people being in the room with me and I was the only one, prayers being answered during the prayer, knowing someone was going to die 3 months ahead of time , and even visits from very loved pets that have died. The pets have visited in very ultra real dreams and while I was a wake and doing something unrelated to the animal. So keep the stories coming. :roll

Nursing Benefits- Your Input Please!
I also work for an insurance co nad have to pay for a portion of my benefits esp. health/ dental. What really got me was a letter telling me they would drop my husband from the health insurance if he was employeed and his job offered insurance. My husband works for a company that is severlly underpaid for our area ( compared to other companies in 100 mile radius , no acroos board raise in site for infinity). His company does offer insurance but the policy is worse than mine. So he had to switch to his co. benefits after I faxed the denial letter to them. Here is the kicker the new insurance company my husband had to switch to is the same one I work for. When I notified my HR that it was the same co. I was told it was a different plan and would not create a con-flict of intrest. Go figure.
