I'm not close to finishing, I graduate in Spring 2011. From what I hear, it's difficult landing a new nursing job right now in this economy, but I have faith that a year from now it'll be better.

The early mornings. I absolutely detest getting up at 4:30am and 5:30am for clinical/class.

I'm in the VCC nursing program now, and I think it's a great program. Afterwards, you can always go to UCF for your bachelors.

1. Yes, I know, you or one of your family members has had every disease we have talked about. However, I don't need to hear the 10 minute story on it. It's way too much time I'll never get back... 2. Believe it or not, you don't know everything. There's a reason that your repeating Nursing II. So stop arguing with the professors when you're wrong, and telling them how to teach the lecture. And you really need to learn your cardiac meds, b/c you're going to kill someone otherwise.

My school has a designated "make up" day for clinical at the end of the term. You're only allowed to miss 1, and that's when you make it up.

Hi, first off, welcome to the forum! It's an awesome resource. Let me first say that I'm currently in the first semester of VCC's nursing program. It's a great program, and I'm learning so much. The waiting time is approx. two terms (1 year) after you've done all of your pre reqs. Not sure about FHCHS's waiting time. I did go to FHCHS for my first term of college, and pretty much hated it. It was overpriced, disorganized, and I learned a lot more at VCC. For instance, the other night my friend went to the college night at FHCHS, and nursing 4 students couldn't figure out how to take blood pressure. Wow...I've already learned that. I've heard through the grapevine that FHCHS has made much of their program "self teach", including things like vitals. If that's true, not cool. Hope that helped any, as I've experienced both sides, and can tell you VCC is far more superior in my opinion (and a lot cheaper!)

I had that problem, and ran through two alarm clocks b/c they died being used on high all the time. Finally, I got a vibrating alarm clock. They are used for hearing impaired people and shake you awake. You put the vibrating part under the mattress (or pillow). It also has a noise part that you can use in conjunction, but it's too annoying for me. I've yet to sleep through it. It's awesome!

Thank you everyone, for giving your two cents on the subject. I will first say that yes, I do live at home, my parents do help pay for anything my scholarship doesn't, and I do feel blessed that my mother wants to be a part of my nursing experience. It's interesting, because she wants to go to this one (she's not a "helicopter parent"), and yet she never went with me to my other three orientations (different schools). From 8-12 am, there will be vendors available for us to buy things from, and I need to get fitted and order my uniforms. Then, the "formal orientation" (as VCC worded it), is from 1-3 pm. So, I think that my mom will come with me from 8-12, and then leave (if it's appropriate) from 1-3.

LOL this thread is hilarious. I do have to say, that as a "high crack" girl, it is ridiculously hard trying to find any pants that are not low rise. I think they are all that I own, as I can't find any others that will fit the hips and waist as good. That being said, I will wear a long shirt that will cover any exposure at CPR. If anyone still sees it, I apologize in advance. I tried.

So, I got my notice last month to go to nursing orientation July 6, and my mom wanted to come with me. I don't think it's appropriate for her to be there, but I'm not sure. She would be paying for my supplies and such, but I could just ask for her checkbook ahead of time. Did anyone take or see other people's parents at orientation buying supplies? Or is it a "student only" event? Thanks in advance!
