NurseLil I am a postal employee and finishing up my BSN next year. I wonder if being a federal employee gives me an advantage to get an RN job at the VA. I am really interested. Good luck to you.

I don't know what agency you work for, but in my department here at the postal service I have alot of standby time and can do alot of the studying at work. I assume you do not have that luxury. Good luck

smyle I'm a postal worker and just got accepted to one of the top BSN programs. I worked the graveyard shift while I completed my pre-nursing classes. Attended night classes at community college for a few years which worked out pretty good. I switched to 2nd shift (3-11PM) a few weeks ago, and also requested LWOP which was denied by my manager. I told him that I wanted to pursue a career in the postal service as a health administrator which requires BSN degree. He wrote services are needed as the reason for denial. Im seriously thinking of going over his head on this one all the way up to district if necessary. I'm usually a quiet trouble-free worker but this situation affects my professional life. Good Luck.

I think the RN-BSN bridge programs differ from the start-from-scratch BSN programs. The science classes are not involved in the bridge program. I wouldn't consider University oriented Chemistry classes "fluff". This is what's required at the university I just got accepted to. Here is an example: For the ADN prgram at the CC I did my prerequisites at they require just this CHEM class: CHM-111--(4) FUNDAMENTALS OF CHEMISTRY Prerequisite: 1 year of high school algebra or MTH 095 with a grade of "C" or better. An introductory course with laboratory in the basic fundamentals of inorganic chemistry with an introduction to organic, nuclear and biochemistry. Topics include metric system, atomic theory, nomenclature, bonding, stoichiometry, properties of matter, solutions, acids and bases, pH, and organic functional groups. The course does not assume that students have had high school chemistry, and is intended for nonscience liberal arts students and those who plan to pursue a career in allied health or nursing. The course is also designed as an entry-level course for CHM-131 for students who need a chemical foundation prior to enrolling in university-oriented chemistry. The State University I am attending requires these two below: CHM-131--(4) CHEMISTRY (UNIVERSITY ORIENTED) I Prerequisite: 1 year of high school chemistry or CHM-111. Principles and theories of inorganic chemistry; molecular, atomic, nuclear and electronic theories of matter related to the periodic table; oxidation-reduction; and theories of solution are explored. For students in chemistry, chemical engineering, or physical science programs. CHM-203--(5) ORGANIC CHEMISTRY I Prerequisite: CHM-132. Modern concepts of the structure of organic compounds; correlation between structure, spectroscopy and properties are explored. Reactions, reaction mechanism, study of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, alkyl halides, alcohols, ethers, and carboxylic acids are covered. Fee is required. They will not even look at the general CHEM-111 class that the CC accepts for their ADN's. Not only do you have to pass these 2 CHEM classes, but you have to pretty much get A's in these classes to even compete for a spot. From the way it appears, the level of knowledge a BSN has in the physical sciences does not even compare to the ADN program. I think the RN-BSN bridge type programs do not require you to take these science classes which are far from "fluff".

Hello browneyedgirl Here is my stats: (accepted to regular admissions) 4.0 overall GPA 80 hours ER volunteer at hospital No hospital work experience Male (may not matter) When I wrote my personal statements/essays, I focused strongly on my interactions with diverse cultures, real life experiences (I'm 34), and also my financial need to advance my skills/education. The UIC Access to Excellence Grant is more based on financial need. A certain GPA (3.0 I think) is required though.

Since I don't pay housing it will run me around 10K a semester. No scholarships have been awarded, but may come later. My awards are 5K for Pell Grant, 5K for MAP Grant, and 8K for the UIC Access to Excellence Grant which total 18K.

Just got the award summary email. I can't believe the awards I recieved. It almost comes out to free tuition. I highly suggest you girls speed up those FAFSA applications or the MAP grant money will run dry. Keep in mind that I do have 4 dependents which qualifies me for more. I received over 18K in awards for the Fall and Spring semesters :)

I think 80 got accepted, and 50 waitlisted. I hope you get it

I just mailed in the tuition deposit, functional expectation form, and also the income verification forms to Financial aid. I still have to clarify some immunization stuff. I also paid for the CPR class through Paypal. Ready to rock :) Littytenny I sent you the form.

I just got the Elizabeth Fern email. It goes something like this: Congratulations on your excellent academic credentials which have qualified you for regular admission. I am pleased to inform you that the UIC College of Nursing Baccalaureate Admissions and Academic Standards Committee has reserved a place for you at the Chicago campus in the Fall 2010 entering BSN class. I'm very happy to have gotten this far :) I look forward to working with you girls/guys. Good Luck to everyone.

I just checked my status on the UIC site and it shows this: Application Data Admission Term:Fall 2010 - Chicago Admission Type:Transfer JuniorDecision:Admit - Pending Level:Undergrad - Chicago Program:BSN:Nursing (BSN) -UICCatalog Term:Fall 2010 I don't know what admit pending means but I hope it's not the waitlist. Can someone who was admitted please confirm that they also have the Admit-Pending in their status?

It sounds like they are sending the emails out an a case-by-case basis, instead of batches. I'm still waiting. Kind of excited myself :)
