As of right now I cant go to the student to student... though I wanted to, it looks like I have to work (I'm hoping to pull some strings). But I have 2 question ... does anyone know if we can wear whatever to orientation or do we have to wear our scrubs? And second I keep putting this off but whats everyone doing about parking? any good tips?

Correction: Charity fall 2010 I'll be there!
hey willmontz, I'm in for spring 2010 and the process kind of went like this... got accepted in Juneish (i think) but we didn't get advised until October .. they sent us a letter stating when to get advised and when you do, you get a packet of everything you need to know. As far as books I don't think they will change from what my list is but if you go to Delgado's bookstore website you can look up what books you will need. The first classes that you should be taking are Nurs 112 and 115 also I wouldn't get to far ahead on the physical... the shots are fine but they told us to wait on the TB test .. our medical forms were due Nov 2nd and they asked us to wait until Dec to get it done. That way it would be good for the whole year. Hope that helps and congrats!

Thanks Blester right after I got your message someone from Tulane got in contact with me I'm going on Dec 18th and runkaterun... I thought we had to get it thru The American Heart Association. I think my adviser told me not to get it thru the Red Cross, I could be mistaken though.

Charity Class starting in Spring 2010
I'm buying what I can from Barnes and Noble... I have there membership card thing (it was $25) and it gives you the member price... I'm kind of just gradually buying books and I just bought the Mosbys dictionary needed for 112 and I paid 31 bucks with my member discount ... at the book store it was 35 used, but I think it was the same amount as amazon. but its definitely worth looking into

CSN Spring 2010... what am i forgetting??!?!?!?!
absolutely not....myself I do not take standardized test well.... never have never will... I can speak 4 languages ... not an easy task ... and I will almost always do bad on standardized computer test...but I did alright on the TEAS I got an 80 I think... and the only reason I think I got that was because I went into it with an .... eh whatever.... I didn't even crack a book.... but when I took the GMAT I freaked and crammed and did horrible. and if I remember right I was getting questions about metamorphic rock.... what in the world does that have to do with nursing school?!?! 10 to 1 your problem was probably testing anxiety

CSN Spring 2010... what am i forgetting??!?!?!?!
well that's no reason to give up completely. If you want something bad enough you go after it. You are not the first person to fail the TEAS and you wont be the last. We have all had our discouragements somewhere along the way for some its not getting high enough on a admissions test others its not getting into the school you wanted to get into. The secret is to not put all your eggs in one basket, so maybe you wont be able to get into Charity. It's not the only school. Maybe the traditional route isn't for you there is plenty of LPN programs in fact my cousin is enrolled in a LPN program and she will get her LPN before I finish my RN and then shes going to do a bridge program while she is working.

gpa question
SELU only looks at your prereqs and I believe last semesters cut off was a 3.5 (and that was lower than usual ) for the regular program and slightly lower for the accelerated it varies from semester to semester but I have a feeling the trend will be that the gpa cut off will continue to rise since so many people are deciding to go back to school. I'm not trying to scare you or anything I took my prereqs there just because it's where I got my udnergrad and everytime I was advised they would give me hell about the 2 Cs I had. They pretty much tell people youre gonna have to get As in almost all your classes. But If you call the office they can usually give you a ballpark figure about what the cutoff gpa is

Am I Nurse Material?
I don't think anyone really knows if they have "what it takes" to make it as a nurse because I don't think you really find out until you get there. I think there is general qualities you need to posess and some people may say they have what it takes but you never really find out until you actually do it. For me personally I based my decision on signs. I started college with a nursing major and changed because I was 17 and confused. (no 17 year old should ever go to college hahaha I've learned this). I graduated with a business degree as well, and I've never been happy. I worked a while just to be sure it wasn't for me, and it wasn't I was miserable. But I always went back to... "I should have gone into nursing". And I realized I wanted to do something that was worthwhile, something that made a difference. When I look back on my life, I want to be able to say that I did something with meaning. And every thing has pointed at nursing. I'm not gonna lie I still have my occasional doubts if this is what I really want. But I think those doubts are their because this whole process is overwhleming and really its unknown. I have an idea of what I'm getting myself into, i'm still on the outside looking in. And I'll be starting nursing school in Jan. But If this something that you really want to do, go for it. Why should it matter youre reasoning behind it. The fact is that it is a good profession, with good job security. And if you feel very strongly about it, by not going for it you may regret it for the rest of your life. My grandfather gave me the best advice anyone has given me since starting going back to school.... it's better to be just starting a new career, being happy and taking pride in what you do than spending years being miserable doing something you hate. Hope that helps a little and good luck

Anyone hoping to get into Charity School of Nursing for Spring 2010!!
I've been reading this forum since I started my prereqs to go back to school for nursing... never registered just pretty much always got my information for here.... so I thought it was fitting to finally register and say that I got in as well... so Thanks for all the information and help and hopefully see yall in Jan.... but i have a question that maybe someone can answer is anyone still applying to other places even after accepting? It's not that I don't want to go to Charity I'm super excited I got in ... it's just the length of time it takes concerns me... whereas other programs you get out faster..... its not like I want to drop my place so that I can apply to a school that I may or may not get into.. anyone else dealing with this?
