Hey all, is there any thread for UTMB RN-BSN fall 2015 students yet? Any idea?

Anyone here attending RN-BSN fall 2015 and will be attending orientation on the 24th?

After you are confident with your content and MUST Test yourself every time you complete one topic. Then do NCSBN. Believe me this will help!

I have used all kind of resources along with Saunders, Lacharity, Kaplan, Hurst, Hesi book, Remarreview workbook, Allnursingnotes, Nursity, You tube videos and after when I felt confident on my content, I did NCSBN.

just follow what i have listed and you will be fine. not just cna, any healthcare experience they look at along with your computer knowledge, writing ability, critical thinking ability, hesi score, nursing gpa, science gpa, over all gpa. you must qualify in every single area in order to compete. good luck!

@ NavyVet28, I see and then it is same as most of the schools in Houston. 75% or higher. I would try to get higher scores in each section. I took HESI twice and that way got really high score. Congrats Navy, we might bump on each other during the clinicals :)

NavyVet28, PVAMU would take English composite cuz one of my friend had 74% in vocab and got accepted. That's how I know.

yes, I found PVAMU is little easier than UT. In praireview they take your composite scores in HESI but UT and other RN programs you have to have 75% atleast to be qualified but the higher score the better chances to compete. PVAMU and UT both are very good school. I really had hard time making my decision. I have chosen UT to go for..rest is upto God and my hard work. :)

Thanks and just follow the list above. Yes, any affiliation and extra curricular activities along with the work experience even volunteering at the healthcare setting would boost your points up. It wouldn't be hard for me if I would have known these steps to follow. Atleast, I made it! It depends ... praire view do not require each section 75% percent of the scores but UT does. I wish, I would have applied to PVAMU last semester. I would be done by first semester by now. I regret, wasting my entire year at HBU in 2009. In 2010 I took Hesi for UT and started applying. UT denied me last semester. This semester I have applied almost everywhere I could. :) That's why I tried to create the do list for future hopefulls so that atleast they can save their time.

I have wasted my time and money as I was lost in the 'A' game, I meant "the acceptance game." It could be easily avoided if I would have followed my progress differently. Here are some tips that will help hopefuls to get into nursing programs: Follow these steps you will get into nursing without wasting your time: 1. Donot only focus on your GPA, Try to get good grades like A's. Try not to repeat. Some schools like UT does not like repeats or withdraws. 2. Complete all of your pre-reqs and get Associate first. That way you would be exempt from TSI requirements. 3. Take all of your sciences at the end, that way they will be up to date. If I am not wrong, some institution do not accept science courses if they are older than 3 - 5 yrs, if you want to use then for BSN after completing your RN. 4. Take RNSG 1301 if college provides. Even though some Universities would not accept pharmacology from other institution as it is considered as upper division nursing course. You have nothing to loose taking this course again at the University because you will see pharmacology throughout the nursing program. As much as you practice pharmacology you will do good in NCLEX exam. 5. Most importantly, as soon as you finish your A&P take the HESI Test, that way it will be fresh in your brain. You will just need to refresh your memory by studying the guides. Get scores as much higher as you can! Use several guides from the library. Do not just depend on Evolve. Keep studying the Vocabulary when surfing the internet. Get a critical thinking for nursing and study that one if your Hesi require critical thinking portion. 6. Get a CNA licence and always have an active CPR. CNA certification shows your interest toward the program. This is your first step of Nursing. 7. Try to work or volunteer at Healthcare facilities even if it is PRN position. It will look good on your status and resume when applying for BSN. 6. Now, apply to several programs that is available and within in your choice list. Donot just count on one program. You will be putting yourself into huge risk. Apply for LVN, RN, BSN by using step by step method. You can proceed to nursing one step at a time or you may apply seperately, if you feel you are ready and complete. 7. I have associate in arts from HCCS just because I do not have three college math classes. I have only college allgebra and statistics. this is the only difference at HCCS but if you are attending different college talk to he advisor about your future plan and get the courses that is required for nursing, doesnot matter you have what kind of associate. Associate will only help you to get exempted from taking standardized test Thea etc. at the universities.
