As a DON in a SNF that specializes in psych issues, I can understand some of what your DON is asking. Sending a patient out to the ER or to a Psych facility, more often than not, ends up not being helpful. It is frustrating in morning meeting to hear all the complaints from nurses about residents that want to change their clothes 5 times an hour, or about one who is crying cause his shoes don't match his outfit. Out of the 55 residents, 52 have psych issues, and we are expected to be problem solvers. In the instance of the res/res, we would have separated them, completed the IR and placed them on 15 minute watch. And we would never get down into the face of a resident that is known to be aggressive. LTC care facilities are becoming the new psych facilities. (At least in our region). You could ask to speak to him and allow him to give you insight on what it is that he is expecting from you. As far as leading the bandwagon for his termination, new companies are not oblivious to that strategy. If you truly love your job, consider that psych nursing is very different from your typical geriatric nursing, and you may need some training. If he is truly a problem, and the new company cares, you won't need to lead the revolt. They will figure it out. Take care of your residents. You will never find ideal work conditions. And he is the DON. Maybe he is frustrated because you are not willing to listen and admit that you may need additional training. Best of luck!

:lol2:ok, remember me? Six of us took the test on Sunday. All of us got 75 questions. All of us could not get to the credit card page?? ALL OF US PASSED!!!!! :nurse::nurse::nurse: 6 new nurses! Trick worked for us!!

I just graduated from Perk's ADN program. These books are very expensive and I think you would be better off getting them from the bookstore. The rent fee is included in your tuition. Many of us wanted to buy our books so we could have them, but after 2 years in this program, I promise you there is not one book that I had to own for myself, that I couldn't live without and couldn't rent. I think it would be more wise to use your extra money to buy care plan books, these are very expensive, and you really need 2 or 3 of them for variety. We had the Abrams book, and hated it! NEVER used it! I also have a delmar's book, AND NEVER USED IT! And it was expensive. When you have a skill to do in the skill's lab,they give you a check off sheet with each step the way they want the skill done. Most of the time Delmar and your med surg book contradict each other anyway. BUT you still have to have it, and you have to pay for that out of pocket. My point? save your money cause what you can't rent you have to buy, and its expensive! Plus you need a stethescope, blood pressure cuff, uniform, shoes, skills lab kits, etc.etc. The list gets longer and longer. Wish you the best of luck! And they just recently changed the fundamentals book, its not the same one we had 2 years ago.

BTW... I know why you are not sleeping.. Cause I can't sleep either.... Like I said, I SOOOO wanted to be a nurse this week!

I mean do you wear a mask or keep the door closed?? WELL GEE, If i have to wear a mask you better believe that I will keep the door closed! AND it was not select all that apply, and believe me I tried to select BOTH!! I was arguing with myself saying, whats the killer answer? I dunno, cause I don't UNDERSTAND the question!!! I think my brain took a vacation. AND I KNEW how to operate the little calculator.. AND I DIDN'Tget to use it. sighhh.. i really wanted to be a nurse this week :smackingf

LOLOL :yeah:I TOTALLY AGREE MARLENE DOES ROCK! I swear I am not saying that she doesn't! BUT, I do believe that I already knew my core content, and I wasted time. I guess that is what I am saying. I loved the Hurst Review, and I think that was the first time I laughed in 3 years! Just being able to laugh again was worth it! And I really think that I am not speaking out of emotion, I had alot of what I have already stated, and so did my class mates. I guess it just wasn't what I expected, I WANTED some ADH and PTH questions. I was ready for every F&E question out there! Gee, I really would have liked to tell the nlclex lady that my client had decreasing LOC due to changes in ICP! I didn't get one question on maternity!! Never got to use calcium gluconate and never even got to call a doctor for anything! LOLOLOL I am just ranting!! I expected more and prepared for MORE, and I should have studied the core of the core! If that even makes sense!! AND I REALLY WANTED TO REMOVE A CAST! I never even seen the nclex devil! Maybe my mind was so warped that I should have been taking the 1st grade entrance exam!!

Hmmm. Let's see if I can say this and still remain calm and collected, and not dig to deep into the pain and details. Every one of us know something or have seen something that makes us squirm or breaks our heart in nursing school. Some of us have had these "somethings" tied directly to us. I was not going to pinning and would never look down on someone or call them childish for choosing not to go. My class was threatened that we would not get the PINS WE PAID FOR if we did not go to pinning. Imagine that. Like any profession, there are self-righteous and cruel people in nursing education, and this affected me as a student, in a very personal way. BUT I did decide that no matter what, I was walking for my class and walking for my family. It was a very hard choice to make, I cried for days dealing with very strong emotions and very real betrayal. I believe that if anyone had a good reason to shun pinning, it was me.. Sigh.. It's a long heartbreaking story- YET I went, and I am so glad that I did, it was the 4th most amazing moment of my life- the other 3 moments?- the birth of my children!

I took the Hurst review from the 11-14 of May, then tested June 7. I pretty much studied every day, in some way. I listened to the review again online, did the mock-nclex twice, did all the 4th day questions. Listened to the test explanations more than twice. I have listened to Marlene so much I hear her in my sleep. BUT, I really think I focused to much on her "core content", because it just was not on the test. NONE OF IT!! I think I would have benefited from going back to my first semester of nursing school notes and looking over all that stuff, the stuff you just forget, out of sight-out of mind. The body system questions were just not there, and neither were questions with lab values to figure out. It just wasn't what I expected! I will let you know how I did, I am very scared:|

I couldn't get through to CC page either. Brrrrrr, the wait and see game! If I had to judge, there is no way that I passed that test!

I took my NCLEX exam yesterday. What could I have studied to better help me? Anything and everything to do with infection control! I am not sure if I can post this, and if its unsuitable please let me know and I will delete. I know I cannot post the questions themselves . I had at least 6 check all that apply. I had two drag and drop boxes. Didn't have a single dosage cal. I had 3 med questions. Not a single circulation question, 1 peds question ( patient was 14) , no F&E questions, couple of endocrine questions, no maternity, few questions in neuro, LOTS of room assignments, lots of priority, lots of infection control. I was stunned because I thought it would be full of what we were taught was "core content", NO WAY! Sure do not know if I passed. I had 75 questions. I took the Hurst Review and do not think I could answer one question from what I studied in the Hurst review. And to add, I had a few immunization questions! Hurst Review doesn't stress infection control in their main booklet, so I never even looked at the stuff again, but I had some serious infection control stuff that I hadn't seen since my first semester of nursing!
