Hairstyle best for nursing
I keep mine long enough to be back in a ponytail or up in a clip so the patient can't get it and I know its not dragging in anything gross when I am assessing or cleaning up my patients. Strictly a preference, I believe anything goes once you are out of school. Many of my coworkers have short hair.

Required Nursing Uniform
Personally I would think if they require a certain brand and color then they would have to provide it. That wouldn't make it right though. Not everyone looks their best in the same color and not having a brand choice doesn't even allow for a good fit. Makes me glad my hospital is not a magnet hospital. Then what would a person do with all the scrubs they have paid for, holiday patterns, seasons etc. I have a better wardrobe in scrubs than in regular clothes. I wish you luck with this.

Who is GENERALLY more of a "PAIN"?: Co-workers OR Patients?
I would have to say family members, especially the ones dealling with their own guilt. My coworkers are great, we are a great team. It is a very busy unit and if we didn't watch out for each other we would burn out and leave.

Nurses in society
I love the idea of drafting disrespectful docs for attitude adjustment. I can think of some that need it. At my hospital we do have a few good docs that do jump in and help as well as our PA's. It is not the norm though and I agree the media should give us some credit. We are the ones at the bedside and we are the ones doing the bulk of the work and it is our assessment skills that save lives.

silly nursing question, hope u can answer it...
Hi, I graduated in 1985 from nursing school and we did do NG tubes but only on the people that volunteered. We did practice SQ and IM injections and started IV's on each other. I personally passed out then no one would touch me. I do believe that is no longer allowed. Someone probably sued. We did not put foleys in each other. We did it on patients. The above description of how to put in a NG was excellent. It is not hard and gives the patient a great deal of relief. You will do great. Good luck with school!

Torn....what would you do if you were in my shoes?
Like the above posts, take the job, get your life stable, keep your nursing license current. You can always orient somewhere on your vacation and work perdiem. In other words take care of yourself and your son 1st. Best of luck to you. It will work out.
