LPN Student with offer to work as a PRn in Ohio
this is from the web site i had to go fill out the app. detailed position description works under the direction of a responsible rn to provide safe, efficient, age-specific nursing care to patients and families in order to assist them to attain, maintain, regain and/or sustain optional health status. essential duties include: direct patient examination and monitoring. direct patient care delivery (includes adl's, hygiene measures, select treatments, patient/family education, discharge preparation). communication and documentation of interventions and observations. participation in quality improvement process. involved in learning and self-improvement. as for not know what med-surg is before starting school. i'm sorry but i do believe that is the reason i'm going to school, to learn what this mean's. i'm sure if i took a wild guess it would a ward/department in the hospital for patients either prior to surgery, post surgery. then again like i said i'm in school to learn things like that. now that i read more on the web site i see that is this is a nursing asst. that makes more sense to me know. i just didn't understand (like you) how i was being offered a job after on 2 weeks of school. thank you all for responding.

LPN Student with offer to work as a PRn in Ohio
Hello All, I am in my 2nd week of LPN school. My Mother is a RN and works at a university Hospital here in Ohio. Her supervisor told her that I could put in for an open position as a PRN in the MED SERG Unit. I have a few questions. 1st What qualifications does one need to work as a PRN. Like I said I just started LPN school and have very little knowledge of how things work and run in a hospital. 2nd What is MED SERG? 3rd do you think it would benefit me as a student to work this position while I am a full time student. Any insight you might have you be great. Thanks

Gay male nurse stereotype?
omg! i was not trying to start a racial thing here and i am sorry if it came off that way, i was merely making an observation of my class. as for how did i know if the european american males were not gay, well because we all talked about it and all confirmed we were not? as for knowing if the african american males were gay, well yes we all talked about this as well and all confirmed they were indeed gay. now i agree that is does not make a **** of difference a person skin color, sexual orientation, or religion is to be a good nurse or let alone a good person. i’m not about to walk into a hospital and tell the gay green muslim nurse :dyou cant touch my dying child. again all i am sorry for making the wrong impression here, was merely making an observation as i stated before. have a great day

Gay male nurse stereotype?
i just started nursing school this week. there are 8 males in my class. out of all of us i know for sure that the 5 black male students are gay; only know because they are flamboyant and not at all trying to hide it. the other 3 white males and we are all straight.

Starting school soon..
I too am starting my classes this month. I have been out of school for 13 years. What is getting me worried the most if just not remembering how to be a student, how to study the right things. I dont really care that im 1 of 4 men in my class or that im 1 of 3 white people in the class either. I was in the Army for 12 years I dont see color or working with woman as a issue. I had schooling in the Army to advance in rank and was always finished with honors, but that was the Army. I know that I am not stupid, but I also know I am not the smartest cookie in the box. I just know that I will have to work harder and longer then most. I hope that my background and my will not to quit will push me thru the rought times ahead. I salute you all for taking this step and looking past the BS that men get for chosing Nursing as thier path in life. Good luck to you all.

Ages of male nursing students?
I'm 31 going to be 32 in Sept. I think that alot of the Male that enter the nursing field are going to be older. I feel this way due to the sigma of it being a job only for woman. Most Men, like myself have tried our hands in other fields and due to reason out of our control have turn to Nursing. I dont look at this as being a second choice, I look at it more as the right choice. Looking back I wish I had done this so much sooner. I think that when i am all done with school, I am really going to enjoy my job.

Guys- what made you want to become a nurse?
Im going into nursing due to many factors. 1. The pay. It is the main factor for most people now a daysa and I am not scared to say that. I need money, I have bills and kids to feed. I cant do that working for $13 an Hour anymore. 2. I spent 12 years in the Army, I have traveled all over the country and the World. I have had the need to help other my whole life. I like the feeling I get when I help someone. 3. Flexability, The hours give me time to continue my education. Gives me time with my loved ones. Gives me time to do the things I have not done in the last 13 years due to the routine of day to day grind of 12 hour days and 60= hours work weeks. 4. To follow my Mother path. I followed my Dads for the last 13 years and I have not alot to show for it. If I would have been smarter 13 years ago I would have chosen this path 1st. 5. I look darn good in scrubs LOL
