  1. thanks for the reply! and i hope you're not an indentured servant at memorial regional.. ayy lol
  2. hi! don't give up! i got into Nova with a 2.8. i'm not sure if the fact i did all my pre reqs at a really good state university helped me but like the other posters recommended, i would retake a bunch of classes. make sure you apply to a lot of private school.. unfortunately you will have a lot of loans but at least you will have your degree in the end. also, there is no way you can work a 9 to 5 in nursing school. school will take up all that time whether it is in the classroom, clinicals, or you are studying. good luck!
  3. I was actually just informed I received the scholarship. I'm just trying to decide whether this is the right decision for me. Any more info would be super useful! thanks!
  4. Hello everyone! I was just wondering if those of you who work at or know anything about Memorial Healthcare in Broward could let me know what you think about each hospital in the system (MRH, West, South, Miramar, Pembroke)? I am interested in ICU or L/D. Which is best for either of those? Do they all pay about the same since it's the same system? How much do they start new grads at? Why would you choose this hospital over another? ANYTHING ELSE WOULD BE GREAT! thanks!
  5. very interesting information about the ultrasound tech. what i am wondering is how far can you advance in an ultrasound career? with nursing you can get your masters and become an NP but what else can you do with ultrasound? just curious because i may have to reevaluate a few things!
  6. i really think you are very close to your goal of getting into nursing school. with one class left i think you should definitely try to get to that finish line. nursing school is really hard and you have a lot of responsibilities but it seems you are dedicated enough to finish. i have heard some hospitals pay for nursing school if you work there and want to continue your studies. have you looked into that? good luck!
  7. i wasn't offended! i asked a question and wanted different perspectives and that's what i got! so thanks for your advice. i am very scared to graduate with all that debt and would also not be completely happy without a masters so i have to keep that in mind but i suppose the masters will also help me pay off my loans faster lol. does anyone know if any hospitals payback loans for you for working for them? not like the scholarships through school but once you get hired they will pay them back?
  8. thank you, caliotter3. i agree with you. gotta take that chance! and leavingteaching, when i said i switched to nursing at the last minute i meant it as i was between two careers.. both health related with similar pre reqs and decided nursing was the right path for me. just like i am thinking you decided by leaving teaching for a nursing career. nursing is my passion and although i wasn't sure of what i wanted to do before, i have never been so sure of anything in my life as i am that nursing is the right career choice for me. i am just scared of graduating with a ton of loans but like caliotter said.. the job market is bad for most careers at this point.
  9. saraFL- the reason i am not going through a community college (which i should've done from the beginning) is because i went to UF, started with another major, kinda screwed up, and decided to do nursing as a junior. they really don't take juniors so that program was out for me. and like Asira said.. community colleges are EXTREMELY competitive and with a 3.9 got put on a waiting list. so i just think it's a little late for me to go from UF to a CC but that's such a great plan if you start off with it. and Asira- that's exactly what i'm thinking.. i went to UF and its kinda as issue for me to end up with an associates after going there for 3 yrs. are you paying for barry with loans? i heard barry is more expensive than nova. what CC did u get waitlisted from? LeavingTeaching- right i heard there was such a struggle for a job at this time.. i guess im just hoping it will be better once i graduate and nursing is what i want to do. i am willing to relocate though. do you know where the best job market is right now?
  10. so i basically switched to nursing last minute, finished my pre reqs, and applied to two schools where i had met the requirements.. FAU and Nova. i had a bunch of problems with FAU and wasn't told i needed to send extra information so my application was never processed and therefore i didn't get it. i got into Nova and have done everything i need to do to attend this school. the problem is.. they JUST processed my financial aid even though i sent in everything in May and i am getting such little money to pay for tuition. i'm really getting cold feet about going to a private school but i basically only got into this program and i already paid a fee of $1000. i was wondering if anyone had advice as to what an alternative could be. i am really doubting i will get into another program because i only have a 3.0 and am lucky i got in at all. i also have a lot of credits and most schools don't seem to like this for some reason.. please any advice as to any other way i can get my RN (BSN preferably because i'd like to get a masters). thanks so much!
  11. i messed up my first yr really bad but was able to bring up my gpa to a 3.0 before applying to nursing school. and i guess i am lucky to say i got into nova's program at ft. myers which i believe had lower standards because it is new. it is REALLY REALLY hard to get in with a low gpa, trust me i would know. but i went to a good school and applied elsewhere so that may have helped. nova is one of the few schools who does interviews which allows you to show what else you have going for you. good luck!
  12. great. so i need to wait another month to see how much i am getting in govt loans and then some time to apply and get a response from a private loan and then another MONTH to get it processed by nova? and tuition is due the first day of classes. or is it deferred til november like at my old school UF? uhh is anyone else doing this or should i do this a different way?
  13. i read that and i find it ridiculous. a few people probably declined because the next step seems to be up in the air!
  14. ok so im pretty sure im not the only one in this position.. i dont understand why nova hasnt sent me my financial aid information. i paid my $1000 already and i kinda find it annoying that i paid that before even knowing anything about loans. i need to fund my whole tuition with loans and i would obviously like goverment loans but ive called nova several times about when they would send the package with the loan info and they said they havent packaged it for nursing yet. i need to know if i need to get private loans! i dont even want to take private loans out but i need to go to nursing school NOW! anybody else in that position?
  15. yeah i'm just scared that since i have so many credits it won't do much!
