Am I being realistic? Nursing school at 45?
GO for it....I started my pre-reqs in 2007 at age 45. Now, I've just started my 3rd semester (OB/Peds), and I will honestly tell you that this whole adventure has been the most challenging and at the same time, the most rewarding experience of my life. One of the best pieces of advice I read on this forum, when I was contemplating whether or not I was too old to start Nursing Schcool, was this. Time will move on -- 5 years from now, you're going to be the age that you are. The difference is -- Did you decide now, to have "RN" at the end of your name or not? Remember; whether you think you can or think you can't -- you are right. Don't "Woulda-Shoulda-Coulda", 5 years from now. GO FOR IT!!!!!

25 pushups
"When Chuck Norris went to nursing school, He didn't have to read the books....He just stared at them til they told him what he needed to know...." 25 push ups. Yeah, count me down.

H_2_O, Thanks for the clarification on the shoes. I passed on a pair of New Balance shoes, because I thought the big honking "N" on the side, would be unacceptable. Seems as long as it's all-white, it should be fine. This is good news, as those New Balance shoes were the best fit and feel for me. Copy's didn't have a large selection of men's professional nursing shoes, and the ones I tried on didn't feel comfortable. Congrats to mommiluvsadrian for getting in, and I wonder how many others got a late phone call as well.

i purchased my navy pants and scrub tops from copy's a few days ago. the store is located west of the college, across congress ave. there's a wendy's in the same shopping strip mall. the gal behind the counter asked me which area of study i needed them for, and helped me pick them out. i spent about 130 dollars for 2 mens landau navy pants, 3 mens landau navy tops with the pbcc logo, and 2 name pins. and that was with a 10% student discount. yes, they are pricey... their prices for stethoscopes were easily a third or more than what you would pay if purchased off the net. none of the scrubs had the pbcc logo on them, so i had to leave them behind, to have that done. she mentioned that the girl who usually does the work was on vacation, and that it would take a few weeks to have the name pins and scrubs done. as for shoes, copy's had the usual assortment of nursing shoes. i didn't check those prices, but i'll bet that the shoes would be pricey as well. there are several threads already out on this site, that dicuss what shoes fit the best and have the most comfort, but, alas, all those opinions are really subjective. it's gonna be hard to make a choice.

Finally got my packet,(after a call). Yeah! lots to do. Can't remember the last time I was up on my titers and shots. I really look forward to being a human pin cushion (yeah right). BUT...better safe than sorry, all types of nasty bugs 'runnen-round out there.

Ouch! Yeah, that could get expensive. Thanks for the heads up. I e-mailed the Admissions Specialist, about not getting my packet, and she replyed that the Nursing Dept. would be sending out the packets. She gave me a number to call. Best believe, I'll be calling it.

hi browneyedgirl*84, welcome to the forum! this topic has been covered very well on other threads. check out the following. https://allnurses.com/nursing-stethoscope/ i'm looking into the littman cardiology iii, which can be pricey and also a bit heavier. but, it seems quite a few people absolutely love theirs and i believe that it is worth the investment for something i will be using daily to help me perform to the best of my ability. (provided i don't lose it, or it walks away....) also, i chose the littman cardiology iii, because the good reviews seemed to outnumber the bad ones. the littmann classic se-ii, is more reasonably priced, and seems a great starter scope, from what i've read. several people say to buy the cheap ones because your scope might "walk away", or they claim not to notice a difference in sound quality between the cheapies and the expensive ones. if you're going to spend hard earned money on a quality scope, i would definitely have it engraved. also, littman is not the only brand out there. take the time and read some of the posts. they may sway you in a different direction. as for my email packet, i'm gonna have to wait as the pbcc site is currently down for maintenance. again, welcome and i hope this info helps!

Navygrl, who was your pharm teacher? I'm asking because i'm one of those types that needs to go to class. I tried doing the On-line thing when I was doing Pre-reqs, and ended up dropping the On-line class..Seems I do better in class and face to face. Something about "a trickledown effect on your brain". (A tip of the hat to JustinTJ for all the great info!).
