Studying nursing theory, came across Jean Watson
Something kind of interesting- One of my classmates went to a Watson Convention for extra credit, and enrolled in a study Watson was doing. Watson invented what is in essence an electronic mood ring. It is a small box with different color lights and electrodes. The electrodes hook to the patient like a pulse-ox and it lights up whatever color you are feeling. Like one color was for anxiety, stress etc.

Studying nursing theory, came across Jean Watson
I believe she is COMPLETELY insane. I love how you used the words "schizophrenic Ravings" I am in complete agreement with this description. In the last semester of my ADN class last year we were required to do a research paper on Jean Watson and her theories. We were required to include our thoughts on how her theories fit into nursing practice today. I called her theories unrealistic and basically stupid. Unfortunately for me my professor was a big supporter of Watson and could not put her opinions to the side while grading my paper. I got my 1st and only failing grade ever. She is completely crazy and making money off of it.

Required Nursing Uniform
I like the idea of different departments being color coded. It makes life so much easier, not to mention, you don't have to put any thought into what you will wear to work. As a student nurse on a new floor, or in a new hospital, I have confused CNAs with Nurses, Nurses with housekeepers, etc.

Both campuses use the same facilities for clinicals. Orange Park Medical Center, Putnam Community Medical Center, Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, Renaissance 20th St. Crisis Stabalization Unit (JAX), Kindred Hopital (green cove Springs) and various nursing homes in OP, Palatka, and St. Augustine. Every semester they usually have a sign up sheet and you pick the facility you would like to go to.

Getting into Nursing Just to Get a JOB!!
I love that post Virgo, RN, Its so true. I would rather have someone who knows what they are doing, than someone who just feels like they were "born to nurse" but are lacking the intelligence. I don't think anyone is a "born nurse". We all go to school, and yes, nursing qualities can be taught. I entered nursing school to get my R.N., and was not sure what I wanted to be, but chose nursing because there are always jobs available, and the pay is sufficient to support my family. No, it was not my "life-long dream", but who cares? I will be an excellent nurse anyway. I am set graduate in a few months, and I love nursing now.

Abusive and Cruel Clinical Instructors: Why??
I only have 7 months until I graduate with my ASN. Out of 5 clinical instructors I have only had a problem with one. She would embaress me in front of patients and family members on a regular basis and insult my intelligence in front of them. I would avoid doing new procedures because I didn't want her to come obeserve/embaress me. Many of the students had similar experiences. I began screaming about patients and the instructer in my sleep, having night terrors every night. She has threatened to fail me for not critically thinking, which is why I have never stood up to her. If she asks you a question, it doesn't matter if you answer it correctly, and even point it out in the textbook, her answer is the "right" answer. She gets her kicks from holding student's futures in her hands. I am very stressed and at a loss as for what to do about my situation. I cannot learn in that environment. HELP
