  1. Thank you so much for all of your replies! I am going to go introduce myself this week. I'll let you know how it turns out!
  2. I work as a nurse tech at a hospital. I am also in nursing school and will be graduating in december. I am hoping to get a job as a tech this summer on a different floor. This other floor is were I hope to work as a nurse when I graduate and I would love to get in there now as a tech. Is it okay to go introduce myself to the nurse manager of that floor or is that rude to just show up unannounced. Should I maybe call instead? There are not any job posting for this floor but I know someone who floats there and she said that they may be hiring.
  3. I wear the KOI pants. They are thicker than others but I still wear nude underwear.
  4. I got plant city, my first choice. I got my CPR through the YMCA. I think it costs about $25.00.
  5. Thanks for the info! I found the book used online at Barns and nobel. Only $6.00 including shipping! It's the fith edition and comes with a CD.
  6. I just looked and they have it on amazon. Do you think it's too early to buy our books? I would like to buy them now, but it seems like HCC is always changing their required books. I would hate to spend all that money on the nursing books package only to have them change the books. 2011nurse, did most of the students wait until after orientation to buy their books? Thanks for taking the time to answer all of our questions!
  7. 2011nurse, did the clinical calculations book come in the package of textbooks or did you buy it separately? i would like to get it now so i can start working on it but i didn't see it in the plant city school bookstore.
  8. I got my letter and I'm in! I think they mean don't register for classes even though registration will open before orientation.
  9. Call your local YMCA. They usually offer classes for about $30.00.
  10. I feel a lot better now knowing that they have my application. Whats your number 1 campus choice? Mine is plant city.
  11. my gpa is a 4.0. I'll have to ask my sister if she got a letter because she has a lower gpa. I doubt they already have everyone chosen for the program since we won't find out until September or later, but then again, maybe they do just want to torture people. lol
  12. I just checked my mail box and I got the rank your campus letter. I can't believe we have to wait 2 or 3 months before we find out if we are really in the program!
  13. I applied for the day program. That was smart to send a self-addressed post card with your application. I looked at my profile in Hawknet WebAdvisor and it says "Applicant" next to Health Science Program so I'm assuming that means that they received my application.
  14. hi everyone! i also applied for spring 2010. i can't believe how long we have to wait to find out. i e-mailed the health science lady and she said that the health sciences committee will not be meeting until september for selection of applicants for the spring 2010 class. i wish they would at least let us know that they received our applications.
  15. hi everyone, i'm new here. what a great site! i am planning to apply to the spring 2010 hcc nursing program. i am just finishing up my pre-requisites this semester. i have been reading all of your posts and have gotten so many of my questions answered already but i do have a few more questions. one of by biggest concerns about nursing school is that i really don't have any medical experience. it seems like a lot of nursing students were cnas first or did something in a medical setting. do you think not having worked in a medical setting will make nursing school more difficult for me? i did volunteer in a hospital for a couple of years and loved it, but that is not the same as getting the experience of working in the medical field. my other question is, do i need my cpr certification before i apply or just by the time the program starts? thanks so much for any opinions or info! :wink2:
