  1. Congratulations everyone! I'm in the class of 2011 Spring and I'm attending the TWU Houston Campus. For those who will be here in Houston, it's AN AWESOME CAMPUS! I'm from Dallas and I love it here. You will love choice of hospitals for clinicals. I currently do my clinical at The Methodist Hospital and I love it. I love my clinical group. You will make lifelong nursing buddies for sure. The classes are challenging ...no lie! However it is so worth it! Someone had posted which school to choose? Prairie View or TWU??? So far" TWU reputation exceeds over all skill and knowledge in regard to nursing" per "my nursing preceptor at the orthopedic surg unit.
  2. Hi. It's 30 for the fast track for each campus. And 80 for the traditional. One campus (alternating year) will have 100 while the other 80. The 100 has the fast track candidates included which is 30 added in. It there is no fast track then it is 80. I grilled ******* on this.
  3. Brownberry. While it is true that TWU does not take the overall GPA and only core pre reqs, they will also factor in HESI (composite score). There are new set of rules that have been implemented than the previous semester. I would advise you to look in the TWU CON web site if you are interested in applying. Talk to Teresa McDaniel who is one of the nursing admissions coordinator there and she will inform you of the current process. If you truly want to become a nurse then plan, work hard whatever level you are at and strive to reach that goal. At times there will be tremendous sacrifices however it is so worth it if you want it that bad.
  4. And some of the previous post are correct when deciding to choose the traditional nursing program instead of the accelerated one. In TWU approximately 30 are chosen in the accelerated program which are offered every other year at either the Dallas and Houston campus. Eighty are chosen in the traditional BSN program. And yes the competition is fierce.
  5. There are no interviews with T.W.U. The TWU College of Nursing only considers GPA and your HESI test scores. You must now also be done with all of your prereq prior to applications ( new rule).
  6. Ruchita33, disregard my e-mail..i found the post with all the book listings.
  7. Princess and Murse it's time to check mailboxes. I think packets for Dallas are here. I received mine just now.
  8. Guys, good luck on patho. Hopefully this professor will not be brutal compared to what I experienced. Meanwhile will I try to find information on pharm for future prep. The nurses I work with (ones who graduated from TWU) said that the professors use their own notes and calculations....no text available. So this is worth investigating.
  9. No, I'm not familiar with that professor:rolleyes: . Maybe that is good news for everyone ! Perhaps this one can be flexible. Hopefully this professor will not be tough. Try to contact the professor if he/she can give you guys a syllabus before the online class begins, so you guys can get a head start as well as find out what book you need...but I'm pretty sure it's the same one I used....
  10. Princess, if the patho instructor is Dr. Merry McAurthur, then I would suggest begin reading chapter 14..ASAP I know forsure, she teaches this class in summer (online). Dr. McAuthor is tough and super strict. However , she is one of the most highly regarded instructors at CON. The book itself is written in such a professional caliber, that it takes time to understand and grasp everything. I took A & P in Collin County Community College and the text used seems like grade school compared to the patho book and class. Her tests are all different. It comes from the author's test bank and the test will never be same. She changes them all the time. So my best advise? Start reading soon. Christine
  11. Hi guys. For all those planning to take patho in summer. Denton/ Dallas and the instructor is Merry McAurthur (online). She normally begins chapter 14 Part Two because the CON requested to teach targeted subjects that could cover the entire systems with a short period of time. It was intense! When I took her class last fall semester, she informed us that the online patho is more challenging than in person lectures. But in my opinion, it depends on your learning styles. The book used may be different in Houston idk. But the college of nursing has specifically requested this text to be used: Pathophysiology The Biological Basis of Disease in Adults and Children ( 5th Edition) By: Kathryn L. McCance and Sue Huether Hint: You are expected to know you A & P already ( that is not as emphasized but it's there) compared to the pathological mechanisms. Many people struggled on the pathological mechanism. Get the accompany study guide ( It sorta helpped but I found out it was not enough) Brush up on your medical terminology. I would suggest studying now. Good luck everyone. Christine
  12. But then again he took course honors classes in statistics and made A's in his sciences with no retakes ...so he probably lied about his lower gpa to me to in order to maintain his anonymity . I don't know what to make of this.
  13. I have a friend who made it in the Dallas campus for fall. His GPA 3.73 to be exact is lower but his NET reading comprehension score was extremely high. I never bothered asking his NET reading comprehension score due to privacy. I really don't know what to make of 3.9 GPA unless the reading score did not meet the criteria or something else. This is kinda weird. :thnkg:
  14. Thanks Princess. I guess I need to stop being so anxious and wait for the orientation.
  15. Just of curiosity. Are TWU nursing students allowed to transfer from one campus to another? Dallas to Houston or the other way around?
