Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews
I will have to agree with you on that one. The CLC's are the only part of the whole program I really dread. Out of 10 classes so far there have been maybe 2 that I was in a group with similar work ethic. I understand not everyone is as good at planning and working ahead to get things done without the last minute stress, but I am completely over the groups where I feel like I am the instructor for a preschool class. Ok kiddos, we're down to a week now..how are things going? I've not seen a single post from any of you? Anyone need help? Hello? and bit by bit I end up pretty much spoon feeding all of it just to get it going so we're not frantically posting back and forth a confusing mess at 11:30pm on Sunday. (Ok, I see you just posted all your changes, but you do realize so and so also just posted all their changes as well as the other so and so..and now they somehow need to all be combined into one document??..and you changed things on their parts as well so now which version are we using?? and no..I don't really feel like that should be me since I've done pretty much everything from day one? but since it's now 11:45 it likely will be me or it's not going to happen..) End of rant! It's almost over.

Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews
Hello all; I've been reading this thread and wondered if someone could give me clarification on GCU capstone course? I'm in spirituality now and have 4 classes left. I was under impression capstone course consisted of just writing a very long paper..is it actually formatted the same as all the others, with DQ's, CLC's, papers due every week, etc?

Structured Nursing Review Course?
I just received my packet for the Glendale Weekend Day program, and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on how useful the optional "Structured Nursing Review" course really would be. I'm trying to get out with minimal expenditure, and I've been through many years of college previously, and am an efficient self-studier. But if the general consensus is that it is very valuable, I'll definitely spend the extra tuition. Any thoughts would be most appreciated! thanks:)

checker1981; Wow, that sounds rough. Are you working 40 hours? Was your bachelors degree in a science that gave you any advantage as far as getting credit for the co-requesite courses, or having prior knowledge that you're finding to be useful in these classes? Stay positive and keep your eye on your goal, hopefully it will fly by! Best of luck to you. My B.S. was in human biology, so they accepted all my prior credit towards the pre and co-requesites, but I honestly don't know how much of an edge it's going to give me with the nursing courses, if any. I've worked in a medical-related field with direct patient care for many years, but never as a nurse. I would appreciate input from anyone with previous science degrees, or in any other medical-related field previously as to how much of your prior knowledge was useful in the nursing program. I'm beginning to rethink how many hours I can realistically keep working if its really going to take 40-50 hours a week of my time just for the 8 or 10 credits I'm enrolled. There's only so many hours in the day:) thank you!

glendale community college nursing program
Nurse2brose- Thank you so much for the information. Sounds like its definitely doable. Having been through 8 years of college already (even though it was many years ago and I'm WAY older now!) I still remember vividly the all-nighters, living on coffee and ginko biloba lol. I even had a small child back then, so I guess this should be a piece of cake compared to that! I'm just afraid my poor body doesn't have it in me anymore to live on no sleep. Well, guess I'm about to find out, because you're absolutely right, none of the minute inconveniences are going to prevent me from doing this. I'm ready for a career I love for a change.

How are you going to pay for school??? I'm really worried...
Can anyone give me a figure from their personal experience, of how much the entire program cost at any of the Maricopa County schools, including books, supplies, any extra non-required classes, etc? They state it to be over 6,000 on their nursing application packet, but I just wanted to hear it from someone who's actually done it, as I have read a few postings of talk about the extra math and study courses that also cost over a thousand dollars, and I assume aren't included in that figure. I will be paying out of pocket and want to make sure I'm not underestimating what I need to have in savings. Thanks!

glendale community college nursing program
In response to the post about being required to go to the hospital on Thursdays to get care plan ready for the Weekend-Day program: I will be working 8-6 Monday through Thursday in order to make this work; and there will be zero chance of getting off any earlier than 6pm, many times its closer to 7pm. Is it going to be possible for me to do what is necessary that late on Thursday evening? What seemed fairly simple when I first looked into the program is becoming more tedious as I find out more information! Even though its stated "Friday/Saturday" it now appears you have to make a Thursday commitment as well as "sometimes on Sundays" I guess for testing? This should be a fun-filled 2 years! I hope it's even possible with my work schedule. Not to mention I'll be driving from far east Mesa. But as they have now eliminated Rio Salado as a choice, (I would certainly like to know why??) this is my one and only shot at this, so I guess I will have to make it work. No way I'm giving up after waiting two years. It sounds like many of us are going to be in for some stress, whether it be over work or childcare. Good luck to you all!

Rio Salado Online Program
Well, I guess it's official now; Rio is no longer a choice. My only other option is glendale weekend day, but it will put a definite strain on my current job situation to have to take those particular days off. But I've used my deferral already, so I'll have to make it work. Does anyone have any more information on why Rio was dropped? I just assumed there were many in the same situation as I am, and really needed the on-line option to be able to keep their current jobs. I hope everyone else can find a way to make another program work for them as well. Good luck to you all.

Rio Salado Online Program
Does anyone have any more details on the last posting? Does this mean if we are currently on waiting list and Rio Salado is the first choice that we WILL NOT be placed there for upcoming semesters? I was placed for the current (Jan) semester but had to defer, so was hoping to start at Rio in summer. Wow, that would be horrible timing on my part if they wont place anyone at Rio again for awhile!!

Rio Salado Community College
Was just placed in Glendale Weekend Day for January, but Rio was my first choice. (I was only able to give those two choices) I need to defer placement till the next round, and am now second-guessing leaving Rio as my first choice. I need to work 4 days a week, and can manage either program time-wise, but would appreciate any input on which program is actually better (I already have a B.S. in Biology and have all the co-req's completed) I've read a lot of people say at Rio you're stuck just reading all the text without getting input of the most important info, and I'm starting to think actual classes may be more helpful in streamlining the studying process, since I don't have a ton of extra time. I can't imagine going through many of the upper level classes I took in undergrad without any input from instructors. I would have spent every waking minute memorizing hundreds of pages of text:) Anyway, just battling with this decision now, so appreciate any comments. Thanks!

glendale community college nursing program
Hello all; The first round of placements was today, and I got in to Glendale CC Weekend Day program for Jan. (my date stamp was 6/08) I will likely need to use my one-time deferral due to my current job situation, and I have a couple of questions for anyone who may know. First, when you defer, do you automatically get the same program next time? (Glendale was not my first choice). Second, if I deferred the January '10 placement, when does the next term for the Glendale weekend day option start, July? Any info would be appreciated, and also, I'm thrilled to know I will at least know how long my wait will be now! Good luck to all of you!!

Where are we on MCC waiting list? Stamped 4/08
I am stamped 6/08; im confused about the '3 semester wait' In the last round of placements (in March) for Rio Salado (my first choice) it said that placement was for June 09 summer semester (and most of the traditional programs said that placement was for Fall 09) I've never been able to conclude whether Rio places 2 or 3 times per year, and exactly how to tell how long a wait I may still have. (ie., do I count 3 semesters per year towards my wait, or only 2?) I was only able to put 2 choices, Rio and Gateway Weekend Day. Any thoughts on how much longer I may be waiting? I've tried to use link on MCC site and only get more confused. Thanks! and hang in there to all my fellow future nurses that are anxiously waiting along with me.

How many semesters did YOU wait???
It seems like from the replies I've read, the wait time is quite varied. I wasn't aware that going through one of the partnerships puts you ahead of people already waiting?? I didn't notice anyone that said they had picked Rio Salado on-line program as a choice; I am curious about how many people actually do make it one of their choices. On a previous thread I mentioned I picked Rio as my ONLY choice due to my current work situation, but still anticipated 18 mo-24 mo wait as my advisor told me. (I was entered to the system april 08, but not date stamped until june 08.) I'm now wondering if it could be even longer than that due the number of people that also choose Rio? Any feedback would be appreciated! thanks

Rio Salado Online Program
I totally understand; it is scary to think about jeopardizing your job the way things are now; but FIND A WAY! As long as you've waited, don't let the opportunity pass you by, it's just a short year and a half to your goal!! I'm like you, really wish I could know exactly what days clinicals may fall, but I don't think they're always the same each semester anyway. You should find out soon when you get your packet. When I tell my boss I have to cut 2 days a week to do the clinicals, I may very well be the next employee to get cut in my company, but to me this goal is worth that risk, I'm just trying to save and be prepared for that if it happens. Looks like I may have another year or so to prepare anyway, if you applied in 07 and have only deferred once. Wow, that seems like a long time! Again, congrats to you, and I hope you get it all figured out.
