I a graduating student in BSN program. I hated the nursing rounds into peds. I thought that I would like this area but these little guys broke my heart.

Hey I just found this forum. I relocated to SC with my husband in 1999. Spent 10 years in classroom and principal of schools.Incidentally started out in nursing in 1980 but felt it wasn't for me. Actually in ADN program with my mother who was kicking my butt. She was getting A's to my C's. So left out of program worked in research labs for 8 years and then into classroom. One year after I was principal of schools, worked in the school to career tract in Health Occupations. My students asked me to take a career placement survey with them and it scored me in areas of health such as nursing. Made the decision in 2001 to pursue a BSN. Will graduate in December 2003. I hope to stay in SC for now. I am looking at MSN degree in next year and then from there I am not sure.

I wouldn't get too overly worried about the new nclex format. You have been studying all along with the NCLEX style questions and you realize that these questions aren't that obvious. You have to know so much more information to answer these multiple choice questions. The alternative formats--fill-ins, priority, etc--just require you to be able to prioritize all that apply. Fill-ins are usually calculations and this isn't difficult. Don't panic. Go to NCSBN they explain the new format. It would be difficult to change the whole testing format in under 3 years since the alternative questions have been appearing (1st 75 questions, they put in "test questions" that are counted but used to see if questions is valid and realiable). Have faith in your abilities. You can do this. The lenght to wait for retake is something that is self-limiting. Even if you have to wait for 45 days to 91 days, you will know when you are ready to take this test. Everybody who is nursing school understands how hard they have worked to get through. Don't let this "big test" worry you. You will succeed. I have job already lined up and will be working in Adolescent Intensive care unit in Georgia.
