Ptec April 2012 online class
I am currently in the online program and so far like many of my classmates are very unimpressed with the program. If you decide to go this route be prepared to do 95% of everything on your own! The instructors are busy...taking classes, teaching other classes etc. There are very few lectures....there is chaos on a major level!!! Clinical dates and times are not what you are told upfront because they say the cannot guarantee the schedule...At our last clinical at the va our instructor never showed up after it was canceled for the prior class as well! It is now time to pay tuition again and I am seriously considering transferring to Galen or anywhere professional even if I have to take a student loan. The thought is depressing me and I am not a very emotional person. If you have the money go somewhere else because you are getting what you are paying for!

Should I have a baby now or in a few years
I'm 30 and have no children and know how you feel. I have studied in business and decided to get my nursing degrees. What I decided to do is go for a yr or year and a half program...so I decided to do my lpn so that way if I should have kids I can work and go to school part time if that should happen....or if you already have a BS degree you can do a 1 yr accelerated bsn program. Either way you can be working in nursing and still have children and a life!

Graduating SPC this week!!! Found out I have a job! YAY!!
Lol...I took Stat I and Stat II for my first degree! I was not referring to 30% for the nursing program I was referring to the 30% for the school's overall programs. When you complete a FAFSA form and they send you your student aid report the school graduation and transfer rate is listed at the bottom of the form for each school you add to the form! Check it out! http://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/?q=st+petersburg+college&s=all&id=137078#retgrad

Graduating SPC this week!!! Found out I have a job! YAY!!
Congrats...you are the first person that I have recently heard that graduated from there. They make you break up the pre-reqs in 3 semesters before you can apply. Their graduation rate is below 30% Many of the pple going for rn's there are in my lpn program because the bridge programs have far less hassle....congrats and good luck to you!

New job in St. Pete's, looking for neighborhood advice
Avoid South St. Pete like the plague...high crime rates...I'm not a snob but I was desperately looking for housing and couldn't spend one night in that area! North St. Pete is completely different especially bordering the Pinellas Park and Clearwater area! If you have no past rental problems I would suggest Camden apartments because they are decently maintained, they accept pets for a large, non-refundable fee, but if you need to move to another area/state you can break your lease and move to another community with 60 day notice and half a month's rent...Good luck

PTEC in Florida online LPN
I am currently a new student at ptec's online program. I applied for April but got wait-listed till October. We just finished the cna part and will be starting the nursing fundamentals in January. Since you do not go to class there is a lot of homework more so than just going to class and if you don't stay on it you can be spending some nights without sleep as I learned the hard way. Also the clinical schedules are set up whenever they can get in. Our class was supposed to have clinicals on weekends and one weeknight every two weeks. I have yet to see a weekend and we have been doing several evenings. Some people with children were not happy with that change. We were told it is the same anywhere with clinicals and that we could drop even though it was a surprise to find out the first day of class! Overall you cannot beat the cost I have thousands in student loan debt and Galen wasn't a wise choice for me to accumulate more debt for an lpn...I think I will only take more debt for an rn bsn progam or grad courses. I wouldn't suggest doing your other courses while doing this program unless you don't have to work at all because although the work isn't hard it is tedious/time consuming. I was also thinking of doing my rn pre-reqs while in this progam but decided not to yet.

Does nursing school break up relationships?
I don't know if I would say it breaks relationships up but it definetly puts a huge strain on a relationship. I wanted to change fields and didn't find much support so I moved out of state to a cheaper school and am in a nursing program. My relationship changed drastically as the person I was with did not want to relocate. I ended up dating someone else....my ex thinks/hopes after I graduate that I will move back....I'm happy in my current relationship though and family just says stay focused on finishing and then decide where and who I want to be with......I'm not that old but wish I was interested in this field and had done this a while ago without any attachments!

spring 2010 Nursing program at suffolk community college
I applied to Suffolk and I already have 80 credits towards my bs degree from much better schools and someone on the phone told me they take people who take classes at suffolk first. I did not even waste my time competing for a community college. The only reason to go there is for price to save money....I applied at the State Universities and got in and they are not so much more expensive!

Looking for a free or low cost lpn program to start in summer or fall
You have to apply and take the pax-lpn test....They have one more testing date this month and the program starts in January. You need to do well on the exam which is basic reading, math and a little of each of the sciences physics, bio and chemistry. I also applied to suffok but they are taking forever to respond and I don't know where on the island you are but their program is way out in riverhead and when I called to find out the status of my application I was told they look at pple taking prereqs at suffolk first and they don't let people know till late january which was a waste of my time...try farmingdale...

Patient dies after falling in shower in the hospital!!!
One of our family friends passed away 2 days ago after having some sort of lung surgery at Good Samariatn hospital on Long Island. Her surgery went fine but she wanted to take a shower before going home and fell in the shower from what we were told. She screamed and called for help and no one came to help her for a while and they were unable to resuscitate her....I understand a lot of hospitals are short staffed ad spoke with other nurses who say the work under protest because of short staffing....but I cannot believe they can get the surgery right and something so basic could be screwed up....from what I understand they may now maybe facing some lawsuits...Do things like this happen on the norm with people not getting help?

Looking for a free or low cost lpn program to start in summer or fall
I am wondering if anyone knows of any hospitals on Long Island in NY that are offering free or reduced cost LPN programs? I saw one hospital and believe they said they would train you to become a CNA first and then after some time they would train for an LPN but I am looking for different options. I don't want to go to Boces or VEEB or anywhere where tuition is 10k or higher. I looked into suffolk comm college but it is past the application deadlines for summer or fall of 2009 and I don't want to wait a year to start the program and another year to finish. I don't really want to do the CNA training unless I can't find an LPN course to get into quickly...Does anyone know of or has taken an LPN certificate or associates program on Long Island ?
