I can't comment on all parts of Australia, just my little corner of the world. I'm in Queensland. Our government says that we have a shortage of nurses, blames the shortage of nurses and doctors when something bad goes wrong, but I tend to wonder if we really have a shortage of nurses or not. I got my nursing licence early December of 2007. I started looking for work around October, 3 months or so to find a job, then when I did get a job, I didn't start until late January of 2008, and that job only lasted until late April of 2008. Then it took me another 2 months to find another job. So what you really need to do is apply for your licence, and make sure you have a job before you get here. Employer sponsorship is a very good thing to look into, but I'm not sure about how you would go about getting that. Good places to go are: http://www.health.qld.gov.au/nursing/requirements.asp http://www.qnc.qld.gov.au/home/content.aspx?content=Registration_&_Enrolment/Applying_for_a_licence/Overseas_applicants and http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/medical-practitioners/nurses.htm for visa information. As I said, I'm in Queensland, and can only give you Queensland info, but I am sure there are links to other states especially at the QNC website.
