UCSD Medical Center New Grad Program January 2012
btw I forgot to ask you persistancepays, if I was to get asked the question which shift do you want? should I say I am open to all shifts or should I say I would prefer nights? I am more of a night person and would deff prefer night shift but as a new grad you cannot be picky and I would honestly work any shift with a smile on my face because I would be sooo happy to have the job. Also after the interview what questions did you ask the panel? I read on your earlier post you said after your interview they called you a week later and told you that you got the job? is that typically how it is for the new grads? so there are no second interviews?

UCSD Medical Center New Grad Program January 2012
Hi guys, I got a call yesterday from the nurse manager, and I have a interview next week...I am really nervous cause I really want this job, can anyone please share their experience with interview questions. I have been reading older posts and people have said the questions are hard and not your typical questions. I am pretty sure it will be a panel interview, but I am just wondering if they ask more of the situational type of questions. Any advice please!!!

Bad vibes from med/surg director..what to do??
Hi Everyone, I need some advice...I recently went on this interview for a New grad RN position (med/surg) to this hospital and the interview went amazing until I met with the med/surg director (who would potentially be my boss). She walked in with an attitude, looked at me and gave me a look of disgust. I could tell right there an then she did not like me for whatever reason. I was so nice to her, calm and friendly. She asked me if I had any critical care experience and I said yes, I precepted in the ICU. She then bombarded me with all these technical questions you would be asking a nurse II or nurse III position not a new grad entry level position. I am not sure if she thought I was showing off or what because I wasnt at all!!! I was merely answering her question. She then goes on to ask me these questions about union versus non-union and I didnt know anything about it. The hiring manager was so impressed with me and liked me a lot and was shocked to see this med/surg director asking me all these crazy questions that she asks no one else. Anyways I had asked a few people from the facility that I know, why do they think this women didnt like me. I found out that this particular hospital is possibly going to become a union hospital and the med/surg director has an associates degree, she is having to go back to school (50 years old) to get her bachelors in nursing. I have 2 Bachelors degrees and apparently people were telling me that she does not like the fact that I have 2 bachelors degrees and that I precepted in ICU. If this is really the case how can this women hate like that?? People were telling me that the med/surg director feels if the hospital becomes a union then the director will loose her job since you need to have a minimum of a bachelors degree. This is crazy!!! I would think you would want to hire the best regardless of degree etc!!!! I mean I know I was the most qualified and I was in shock when I got the letter from this hospital today saying that I didnt get the job. The hiring manager liked me so much after the interview he told me that, they would call me in either for a second interview or else they would just call me in to sign my paper work. I dont get this place at all!!! I am just so upset and hurt because I have worked so hard in my life to achieve my goals and now as a new grad cant get a freakin job!!! I am just so mad. I am such a calm, nice, sweet person but I am sure this is not the first director in the world to be a *****!!!! I really hope the hospital becomes union and this ***** looses her job because she is not fit to have basis like that and only to hire those who she thinks is below her so she is not at risk for loosing her job. Please if anyone can give me any type of advice on what to do when you encounter a director (potential boss) that is rude or is judgmental. I mean is it really that wrong to say I precepted in ICU when I am applying to a med/surg position....I know some people think that if you precept in ICU then apply for ICU position. But that is almost impossible cause none of these hospitals hire new grads for ICU!!! So should I just not put it on my resume?? HELP... I am just so angry and frustrated!!

New Grad needs help finding a job..any tips??
Hi everyone, I am from Southern California (Orange County area), however I went to nursing school at Creighton University in Omaha NE, I graduated in Dec 2010. I decided to go to Creighton because they offered a one year accelerated BSN program since and I already had a BS in Biology, this seemed like a logical decision for me. I loved Creighton University, great school and I precepted in the ICU at Creighton University Medical Center. I took my boards late May 2011 and passed. I currently have my CA RN license, and I have been looking since Dec 2010 for jobs and still no luck at all....I am starting to regret moving back to California after graduating because all my nursing school friends easily got jobs in Omaha, NE and I knew it would be harder in CA, but I didn't think it would be this hard. I did well academically in nursing school and I have probably applied to over 50 positions already (probably even more). With all the applications I have submitted, I have only had 2 interviews, one went really well and the other one did not. I mean I am getting so desperate now, that I am thinking of reconsidering and moving out of California again. I even started applying to hospitals in Northern California, but no luck there either. I really wanted to stay in CA because all of my family is here, plus I could live at home for free and save money....please help!!! So my question to you guys: 1. does anyone currenty work at any hospitals in the LA, OC or SD area, and if so, can you please post on here when or even if they will hire new grads? 2. Any suggestions on what nurse managers look for in new grads? Any insider tips for a resume? 3. Why is there such a stigma on new grads? I mean how are we supposed to get rid of our "new grad" tittle unless someone takes a chance and hires us. 4. Please can anyone just give any tips or any strategies or just any other advice that might help. Thanks!

Interview at Riverside Medical Center..help
Hi everyone, I have my very first RN interview at Riverside Community Medical Center tomorrow, this is for a new grad RN program and I am wondering if anyone has had an interview there yet, and if so can anyone tell me the type of questions they ask. I have been hearing from a lot of people that most interviewers ask behavioral type of questions, which I think just mean scenario type of questions. Anyways any pointers at this point will help me, I am really nervous especially since I am interviewing for the ICU. Please help thanks

New grad RN moving to london, UK..help!
Thank you Silverdragon, I will go ahead and follow your recommendations. However, do you think once I finally move to London and get all of my license stuff straightened out, do you think any of the London hospitals will hire me as a new grad with no experience? thanks for your advice!

New grad RN moving to london, UK..help!
Hi everyone, I just graduated from Creighton University in Dec 2010. with my BSN. I just found out that my fiancé's job is transferring him back to the UK. He is a UK citizen and now unfortunately has to move back to that means I have to move with him. I literally just graduated on Dec 18th 2010, and I have not even taken my NCLEX yet. I am scheduled to take it first week of Feb. Heres my problem: I will take the NCLEX so I can get my RN license, but then in March I am moving so I wont even have any experience under my belt. I dont know what to do?? I have been reading the forums on here about US nurses moving to the UK and I have read such horrible stories and I heard its really hard to go through the NHS and nurses midwifery thing. I am just worried because if its hard for nurses with experience to get a job there, I probably dont even have a shot! If anyone can please give me some advice, because I am moving with him, so I will need to have a job there, I thought about working for a traveling agency, but when I called them they said I need experience so I am very frustrated, please if anyone knows of any private health insurance companies or other nursing positions that will take US citizens please let me know. If you know of any nurse agencies in the US that help with filing all of the proper paper work to get my nursing license in the UK please let me know. I even checked to see if there was a US military base in london that would hire nurses, but the only one I found was the royal air force base which will not hire US citizens. Thanks

hey Congrats Seattlejen, I just got the email from carla hodder today as well saying that I am also conditionally accepted for the Aug 2010 class, however I applied over 4 months ago for the Jan 2010 class. So I really want to get into the Jan class, you said earlier that there were only 4 seats left in the Jan 2010 class? Seattlejen, the funny thing is that when I would call Creighton in January and talk to either Erron or Carla they would both tell me that half of the class is not even full yet. I am really upset because I do not want to go for the Aug 2010 class. However, Carla did say in the email that she put me on a "Short" wait list for the Jan 2010 class. I am very worried because I do not want to wait another year. so does anyone know what the chances are if I am on the wait list of actually getting into the program for Jan 2010? Do people drop out or change what semester they want to start? Please let me know. Thanks

Nebraska Methodist-ACE Program Spring 2010
Hi Guys/gals I have my phone interview with Nebraska Methodist this coming wednesday in the morning, I am really nervous because I dont know what they are going to ask me. Can anyone help me out, does anyone know what some of the questions they ask? Beth is the lady I talked to on the phone and she told me that she will be emailing me some questions to answer the day before on tuesday. So does anyone know if the questions she emails me are going to be the ONLY questions that she asks on the phone? I am not sure if people that apply to this program usually do a phone interview or a in person interview. I am from California so maybe that is why I am doing a phone interview. But in any case can someone please help me out an let me know usually what they ask on the interview? Thanks

Hi Lizgracexoxo I have applied to creighton for the Jan 2010 class. I submitted my online application about 3 weeks ago and I never got any letter or even email from them yet saying if my application is complete or not. I was told to talk to carla hodder, she just emailed me saying that they send out bi-weekly emails, but I have yet to receive one. So anyways can you tell me if you got any emails from them, because since they admit on a "on-rolling basis" its kinda confusing to even know when they if they even started evaluating my application. I hope I get in. Could you tell me some of the most popular places where students live off campus. I am from California so I dont know whats considered to be a nice area thats safe and is near campus. Thanks

so I have just turned in my online application to Creighton and I mailed in all of my transcripts. I am just waiting on my professors sending in the letters of rec. So my cum gpa is 2.88 and my pre-req courses gpa is around 3.5 or 3.6. So can anyone give me an any info if they know of anyone that got into creighton with a cum gpa lower than a 3.0. I have been noticing that a lot of the schools that require a 3.0 cum gpa, they tend to be very strict with that requirement, even if a students pre-req or science gpa is a lot higher. I really want to go to creighton, so I hope I get in. Thanks guys!

How to become a CNA in California?
yes I live in Orange County (Irvine). I know that the red cross also offers a 4 week course, but its like $1,000 which is way to expensive. I found out of a ROP course, but its 9 weeks and its around $250 which is cheap, but I was just looking for something shorter than 9 weeks, like the red cross one, but its way to expensive. So please let me know if you know of any programs that are short and cheap thanks. PS I heard that some nursing homes offer CNA classes for free, do you know if that is true and where I could possibly find that?
