Christ vs. Good Sam
I went to Cincinnati state and my credits transferred. The only bad part is Cin. State are on 8 week terms you have to take more classes. Exp. A&P at Christ you need 2, so at Cin. State you'll take 3 and that will be enough for your 2 classes. It's still cheaper! All their saying at Christ is their working on the financial aid and it should be done sometime this year. They have let people who depend on financial aid defer any payments until their financial aid comes through, so I only have to pay for my books right now. Hope this helps!

CPR Certification for Christ
I took mine at a local firehouse. Cost me $25... just make sure it is for health care providers and that it is good for 2 years.

what are you doing to prepare for the start of school??
It felt like I was the only one stressing out about school starting!!! I have been trying to track down my immunizations records as a child (not working out so well), trying to test out of English, buying shoes,uniforms,etc.... Helping hubby remodel my kitchen, trying to catch up on the endless laundry pile, and most important spending time with my kids, going to baseball games and gymnastics... things I won't have a lot of time for during the next 2 years!

I think my nerves are getting the best of me!! I feel like I can't really figure anything out until I see my schedule.. which I'm certain that won't be until July or first of Aug. What if I get sick and I'm throwing up? I mean I'll put a bucket around my neck if I had too!!! hahaha But surly they don't won't you being at clinicals like that! I'm just going to stock up on vitamins!

Thanks for all the advice! I'll just have to figure it out and have plenty of back up plans!

Students with children
My kids are 13, 9, and 4 so the oldest I'm not to concerned about unless he has a sporting event, the 9 year old, and the 4 year old is the ones I'm most concerned about. Their not old enough to stay home alone and the baby has preschool, but only 3 hours a day and if they get sick I don't know what I'll do! I have great friends, but my one best friend lives over an hour away, and my other best friend works and has 3 kids of her own. But with that said she is my very best friend since we were teens and she knows how important this is to me and she's already told me she would do anything to help me get through school. I have a sister who lives 10 mins away, but works full time, my brother works fulltime, and my poor mom still has to work, but my step dad who is 73 still tries to help out! If it wasn't for my step dad and my mom watching them at night while I did all my generals, I wouldn't be this far! In laws don't help much and they live 30 mins away. I also have a wonderful babysitter who have watched my children since my middle daughter was born, but her husband has a cancerous brain tumor right now, so I can't ask anything from her right now. So what time do clinicals start? I know every school going to be different, but just so I have an idea. Has anyone ever had to miss school for some reason? I've heard you can't miss know matter what! I am so scared!! But like Kendra1978 said I'm going to have to push through this fear and make this work! It will be worth it in the end!

I start nursing school if Aug. and I've been sooo worried about how I'm going to do it. I have 3 kids and a husband that travels for work, so he's very unreliable, so I am the primary caregiver.. if the kids have sports I take them, if their sick I'm the one taking care of them, you get the picture. I know there are tons of moms (and Dads) that manage to get through school, I'm just really scared about it. Can anybody give me some advice? Thanks!

I'm sorry... I know that you were excited about starting this year, but that's great that you can still hold your spot for next year. And doing your A&P's is a really smart move! Less to worry about when you do start nursing school! Good Luck with everything! If I can help at all let me know!

My goodness you'll be far from home! Well Good Sam isn't right in the middle of downtown, and I wouldn't consider it in a suburb. It's in Clifton which I would say that's about 10 mins. at the most to downtown. I'm so not familiar with that area, because I'm from the other side of the river in Ky. All I can tell you is a lot of the younger students that I know from Cincinnati State live in Clifton and love it! Me on the other hand I'm older and married, with kids, and I wouldn't like it. Good Sam is located right in the hospital on the upper level floors and there are apartments around there. UC is also close to there and I believe if you keep going further up the from the hospital there are other hospitals. I know that there are parts of Clifton that are very very nice and then there are some where you should never walk alone at night. But you'll have that anywhere you go.. for the most part I would think it's pretty safe. You should really come take a look before you decide that this is what you want! You have around 5 months left to pay your fee, I would maybe come down for a few days and check out the school and the surrounding area. As far as the chemistry I would say yes you can take it somewhere else and take something else to get your 12 credit hours. I only say that because when I was over at Christ last week he told me if I would have gone ahead and taken another Soc. I would have to take another gen. ed course to make sure I had my 13 required hours. So I'm just assuming that Good Sam is most probably the same. With that said I would call and ask just to make sure before you waste your money. Hope this helps! If you need anything just ask!

I just remembered something! Go into your financial aid book they gave you and go to page 7 and at the bottom there is something called workforce investment act this is also known as WIA. This is something through the unemployment office and what it is basically is money given to people who need work training and they give money for school! Call your unemployment office where you live and ask about the WIA program. I called yesterday and nobody has called me back yet. I went last year to see about this, to help me pay for Beckfield in Florence, Ky. but choose against beckfield, because of how expensive it was. So I thought the program was just a Ky. thing so I was shocked to see it in their catalog. You can also apply for scholarships and private school loans if you have to. Hope this helps!

Christ vs. Good Sam
this is a very hard decision to make! I do understand... But when I went to talk to Mr. Wingham last week he felt pretty confident that the whole situation will be fixed by fall. Now with that said I asked "what if it doesn't" and he said that the school will be willing to work with us. I know you said your parents will not help... Is there anyone who can help or does your employer offer any tuition reimbursement? Or can you pick up any extra work in order to pay for your books? That's what I'm doing. I'm going to babysit 2 kids this summer so that will give me the money I need. Don't give up if this is what you want! I know the money thing is hard! My husband has been laid off for close to 4 weeks! and he wanted me to wait until next year also, but I said absolutely not! I will come up with the money some way! I don't know your whole situation, but if I can help in any way please let me know!

I was also accepted to good sam, but I was also accepted to christ and decided to go them. I have heard alot of good things... how the teachers are great and will help you if you need it, but you have to WANT this is what I was told. They said it is a VERY!!! intense program and a lot of people do drop out. I know of 2 people who dropped out, but I also know 2 people who made it and loved the program! Here's what I would tell you.... All nursing programs are going to be hard and intense! If you truly what this you will make it work for you! You have a year to decide what to do if you start in Aug of next year. Do you have any of your gen. ed classes done? Another idea would be to start this fall at a local college and take some of your classes and get them out of the way. I went to Cincinnati State and did all my gen. ed classes, except for the 13 credit hours that I have to take at Christ. Cin. State is very cheap and I like it there, but they go on 8 week terms, so if you next 2 english’s at GS then you will need 3 english’s at Cin. State. If your confused I can explain further. I hope this helps!!! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Christ vs. Good Sam
yeah he seems very nice and while we were talking I found out that his son lives right down the street from me! I'm just hoping they can get all the issues worked out soon. Since you go there right now, I bet you can answer this question. I want to get going on everything, so I have it done before Aug. Do I need to take a cpr class? Do I have to buy the uniforms and books through them? And I have to get my immunizations, do you remember which ones you have to have? SORRY! I just want to get everything done, because I SO excited but yet nervous all at once!! Jennifer
