  1. Any non-faculty NPs for Nurse Corps hear yet?!
  2. So still no nurse corp NP awards or did I miss posts?
  3. Congrats! Have any NPs heard back for Nurse Corps yet?
  4. Have any NPs heard yet?! It seems like only faculty has on this board-am I wrong?
  5. Hello! I was lucky enough to get awarded the Nurse Corps Loan Repayment in 2013 (my facility has a high score and I have a HUGE debt:salary ratio). While it was great to get, I still have a lot of loans to pay off after taxes. I just applied for a second time - I know that it's absolutely allowed (I called them to check), but I wondered if anyone here has ever been awarded it twice, or know someone who has? Thanks!
  6. 19, tier 1, and my ratio was about 120%. Good luck!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to report that I got the acceptance email this week! Yay! I'm hoping for good news about the rest of you, let us know! Does anyone who has gotten it before know how long it takes for it to be finalized and for the money to start arriving? Also, I'm curious what everyone does in terms of using the money - do you pay exactly out the way you had been paying before, or do you pay what you were paying before, plus a little bit extra? What are everyone's tactics for using the funds?

Hi, She's an NP (me too). I still haven't heard anything. Her's now says "Award accepted." But her's was NHSC - I forgot there was a difference in that and Nurse Corps so maybe there's still hope!

has anyone heard? I know of one person who got an email that they were a finalist, and her facility score was lower than mine! I'm trying not to be too bummed yet...
  12. Hi everyone, I was hoping for a little guidance/advice, if anyone had any? I'm an NP working at a major hospital in pediatrics. I have been at my job for about 2 years and am starting to think about changing positions. There are a few that I can apply for at the same hospital....has anyone done this? I'm a little bit concerned because I don't want my current team/boss to find out that I'm applying, but the peds world isn't such a big place so it seems like a possibility. But if I didn't get another position, I would be fine staying where I am, so I don't necessarily want them to know I'm looking around... Any thoughts? Thank you! Sarah

Is it supposed to make a difference if you apply early or right up to the deadline? I assumed it didn't, but does anyone know if you have a better shot the earlier you apply?
  14. @ella86RN I think for NHSC you have to be primary care, whereas in Nurse Corps you don't have to be (I'm not). Also, the way they disperse the $ is different - one is all up front, the other is monthly (I think!).
  15. Thanks so much for your input! It's so nice to hear that someone in a similar position to me got it. I keep meaning to budget out all the money and everything to see what the best way to go about it is to pay things off the most efficiently - probably the way you're doing it. Thanks for your reply!
  16. Male student nurse: "I think the clocks are trying to tell us that 3:00 is, in fact, the MOST CORRECT time." Female student nurse: "I think someone's been studying for the NCLEX too much."
  17. Hi everyone, I am an NP working at a NY facility with a score of 19, which is tier 1. My loans each month are CRAZY (about $1500), so even though my debt:income score isn't as high as some (it's about 120%), this would be life changing for me! I was just hoping to get some general advice/thoughts from everyone during this very painful waiting process. I've heard that if you do get the award you generally find out in July/August, otherwise rejections mainly come around October. Has anyone else been in my shoes, with a similar facility score and debt/income score, with any words of wisdom? I'm nervous and thought it would just be nice to chat with other people who are going through the same thing, or who have been through it! Lastly, for the folks who have gotten this before, what ways do you utilize it? Do you use it to make your minimum monthly payments and try to save, or do you make 1.5 x your regular payments? Pay off private loans first? Just thought it would be nice to get a convo going this application cycle! Sarah :)
  18. hey guys, for those of you who weren't at visiting day today, i just thought i'd share a little tidbit of info that 3 current students all gave me, which was that for the first year at least, you definitely don't need more than the basic stethoscope package (package #4), and usually you wont need anything fancier for the masters portion unless you are going into cardiology. just thought i'd share that before lots of people spring for that $184 package. other than that, the info was pretty standard as matt said, although the schedule specifics are interesting and its great to know that we have the month of august off!
