Online courses?
Yes, I did! I found it on a rabid, last ditch effort Google search less than a week before my NCLEX. I think it was helpful, I really like it when prep-things give rationales for answers. It does reccomend that you take 80 hours to do the course, but I didn't find it until less than a week before my test; so I signed up for the 3 weeks. For me personally, it would not have been useful for any time longer than 2 - 3 weeks since the quizzes were always the same in each section. But I do think it was helpful. It used wording that was easy to understand. I found myself recalling items from it while taking my NCLEX. I took the NCLEX Friday... and today got my "unofficial web results" that I have passed. Yay! Echo, RN (woo-hoo!)

out of state GN
Yes, it is very easy. Here is the website http://www.op.nysed.gov/nursing.htm I went to school in Alaska and took my NCLEX in Alaska but FOR my New York license. MAKE SURE you get the infection control and child abuse classes (you can do these online) and send in the certificates along with your application to New York. This is one thing that sometimes holds up some out-of-state applicants. Just today I found out my "unofficial web results" that I passed! (I'm very giddy about it right now) Best of luck to you.

Extra pay for certification or degrees?
At my hospital ACLS is one of the things a nurse gets points for when being evaluated for a raise.. but it is required. Go figure.

A question about clogs
When I first read your original post I thought "she could use Reeboks." I have a slightly "off" arch too, and my old Reeboks are the best, most comfortable shoes I ever got. But I hear a lot of people (who, presumably, do NOT have "off" arches) say that they just can't stand Reeboks and that it hurts their feet (which is how you and I feel about "regular" shoes). Oooookay... I just used the word "Reeboks" in every sentence so far. So I guess it is obvious what shoes I am in favor of. Is there some reason like a dress code or something that you couldn't wear them at work? Here is what I suggest: get a new pair of Reeboks AND a pair of clogeze. If you try the clogeze and they don't work you still have the Reeboks to fall back on. Also, you will probably know within a week if the clogeze won't work for you and then they will still be "like new" so you could probably sell them to a coworker to get some of your money back since they are such a popular new item. Or! They might even have some sort of "money back if not completely satisfied" thing. Well, here I am babbling on and on because I haven't had my coffee yet. I must be getting off to work now.

RN license
You can go to school in New York, and even take your test in New York and get your SC license without ever having a New York license, if that is what you want to do. You could get the NY one and transfer, but if you plan to move right away and never use the NY license, it's kind of a waste of money. http://www.llr.state.sc.us/POL/Nursing/index.asp?file=bonexam.htm this site explains what you need to do to apply. As an out-of-state applicant the only extra thing you need to do is provide your transcripts.

Black Widows
And here, my prize, the Black Widow. Isn't she lovely?.. and so deadly. Her kiss is fifteen times as poisonous as that of the rattlesnake. You see her venom is highly neurotoxic, which is to say that it attacks the central nervous system causing intense pain, profuse sweating, difficulty in breathing, loss of consciousness, violent convulsions and, finally.. death. You know what I think I love the most about her is her inborn need to dominate, possess. In fact, immediately after the consummation of her marriage to the smaller and weaker male of the species she kills and eats him - ha ha, oh, she is delicious.. and I hope he was! Such power and dignity - unhampered by sentiment. If I may put forward a slice of personal philosophy, I feel that man has ruled this world as a stumbling demented child-king long enough! And as his empire crumbles, my precious Black Widow shall rise as his most fitting successor! That's about the extent of my knowledge of the black widow... but I'm just kind of post-happy tonight... sorry.

Survey: Do you think hospitals should require a uniform code for nurses?
A distinctive uniform worn with pride, dignity, and demeanor promotes the ideals of the organization it represents. Traditional nurses' uniforms immediately identify the wearers as educated, caring individuals who have dedicated themselves to preserving the health and well being of their patients. The performance of the people who have worn this uniform for centuries have earned nurses an enviable reputation around the world. I am nearly the only person who works at my hospital who does not wear scrubs. Unless I know someone personally I don't even know what their profession is. I walk down the halls of the clinics every day and see department secretaries, nurses, housekeeping all wearing the same things. Sometimes the badges are flipped over, or I am not close enough to read if there are letters after their names; and sometimes people just don't wear badges. Given that one usually chooses dress consistent with one's attitude toward the person or the occasion, professional dress can then reflect caring and ultimately work toward sustaining the caring image of the professional nurse.
