it is basically total care...mostly hip and knee replacements and back surgerys...i didnt ask if it was the norm...i guess we will see when i go back next week..on night shift of course!

I went to lunch with the director of the floor a few days before orientation started and he informed me that they only hired 2 new grads this past year and both of them were techs on the floor. He stated that basically as long as you finished school and passed the nclex you have a job. He said he even held the positions open for 2 months so that he could hire them. According to him 70 nursing students graduated from nursing programs in our area...the hospital only hired 2!!! If this is any indication of the hiring trend all of us students need to get some tech experience...with the way things are now no tech experience might = no job after graduation...just make sure to go prn...so if it is the job from hell like mines..at least you only have to go 2 days a month! think i am going to try nights..that way i can by pass meal times and "visting time"...so I do not have to explain that we are required to check VS every 4 hours even if grandma is in the "middle of her nap"..(to make sure she is napping after her 2 hour hip replacement and not dead!) P.s. the hospital pays for up to $8,000 of your your tution after 6 months! after you finish school you have to work for them for 6 months for every semester they pay for school...

I just finished my 1st semester of an adn program. I decided to try for a job at the local hospital as a Med Surg Tech (which = cna = pt care tech). My first day as a tech on a med surg floor was from 7am - 7pm...In my 11 years of working office jobs, on an assembly line, and a few other gigs..this was my worst day ever...How do the expect people to do the majority of the work and get the least amount of pay! Only 1 tech for 16 pts! This made me not even want to be a nurse:cry:! In the whole 12 hours I sat down for 30 minutes for lunch (and I had to request that:angryfire). Thank god it is prn...hopefully I can go as least as possible. My trainer had no sort of organization to the day..she ran around like a chicken with her head cut off all day:bugeyes:! My question is how realistic is it to compare my experince as a tech to a rn? Tech's don't get enough respect! They should be treated like gold! :bowingpur

is the 2 year program at troy during the day or at night? do you know of any night programs in that area?

the nursing program is at the new building off of hwy 18 and greenfield road in pearl...its about 5 miles southeast of the campus

yes i registered tuesday...taking it online...i live in brandon about 2 miles from the new rankin building...

carafaith i am in the same as boat as u...got accepted to the rankin campus..going to NAHC April 22nd...got to take A and P II this summer! congrats!

Hello i will be moving to montgomery in august..I have been taking my preqs here in jackson, ms..hoping to get in the local community college rn program...I have not got a reply yet..but guess it does not really matter because thanks to the old hubby we are moving to montgomery...what community college in that are provides a two year program..I saw troy university has a two year program..but i am trying to do this the most cost effective way possible!!Please help..I don't want to wait another year or two...trying to apply for this fall or even spring 2010! thanks

As long as you have 12 months of continous coverage you will be given a full waiver on any pre-existing condition. You can let you coverage lapse for 60 days only or you will have to serve all of the "Waiting period". Ask for a certificate of creditable coverage....this is the only way that you can prove you had coverage

Hello I am so sorry to hear your story...but i do have good news..I work for a "major" health insurance company..i actually enroll all the new COBRA subscribers...Here is what you do...You are going to have to pay for the COBRA..at least untill u have the baby...the benefits will be exactly the same as the plan you have now..i know it is expensive..heck i couldnt afford it if i left work! Someone in Florida will take the plan...even if it is considered out of network...or you could get medicaid...if you are not working or meet the income limitations...any pregnant woman not working..will NOT BE DENIED MEDICAID!! Do not consider it a handout..you have paid taxes all these years..u are just using some of your own money if you cannot afford the COBRA..by the way pregnancy cannot be considered pre existing that is illegal! I have the point system that hinds uses to determine who is offered a spot...the lady told me the average person has 9 points...with out the gpa points I already had 14 points...she said it was almost sure that I got in...you are being way to hard on yourself!! u r going to get in...if you want i can scan the points sheet and email it to you so u can cal your points...i am new to this whole posting thing ...is there some kinda away you can send me your email without it being posted...do not post your email on here..no telling who might get it!

I emailed her and asked if everyone with a 20 or higher and a 3.0 automatically get the scholarship. I will let you know what her response is. I know at Hinds their ACT scholarship is for "first time entering freshmen." I applied for it anyway...:) I am first time at Hinds and entering as a freshman sort of... That was so funny!! I like your logic!! I Agree...hey they can only say no...

ok sorry to keep botherin u!! i didn't know u could get the holmes act scholarship if u already had a bachelors...did you have to fill out a form...or do they automatically consider u for it? i want to apply for that!

I have looked at the classes for both programs as well..my understanding is if you already took the class they will give u credit for it...most of the nursing courses are 9 to 10 credits each semester...so they only way this might effect you is with financial aid and the cost of tution...since u already have a degree you won't be eligible for grants...but you would be considered part time for taking under 12 hours as far as loans...if u are set on getting a bsn check out delta state. they have a rn to bsn program online once u finish at hinds or holmes..just make sure you have fufilled all the preqs..you have 4 semester to complete then while at hinds!! so once u finish all u have to do is apply!! i really believe u r going to be so happy with this route...everything happens for a reason:rolleyes:just think since u have most of the general reqs met all u have to do is focus on nursing courses...can't beat that!

Hello..I applied to both hinds and holmes for fall 09...I also have a 4 year degree in business..I did a lot of research before choosing the ASN route over the BSN...mainly it came down to hinds and holmes are about 6000 for the whole program! I also want to be a hands on nurse...not in admin...from what i hear some hospitals don't even pay for a BSN..others pay about .50 cents more! Read the blogs! Do not be sad about not getting into UMC...You might love hinds or holmes!! Besides the application process is so easy..it took me 20 mintues to fill out the apps and get my transcripts sent:typing..NO app fees!! no recomendations! no essays! it is probably a blessing in disguise:bow:...apply to both and see what happens..best of luck..keep us posted!!
