Anyone else apply to NAU/GCC concurrent program this week?
jhunold: yes, i am enrolled in the nur330 class for the june start classes. i am still waiting for my packet......the last i heard, they had 2 spots to fill and once those are filled they will begin sending packets. can you please post what your schedule at gcc will be? peterbrasco: i did my cpr through par cpr. my class also took about 3 hours and i got my card the same day as well. i think the class cost somewhere around $55.00 i have everything done except for my last hep b, which is scheduled for july. i also have to finish up mmr #2, then have mmr titer done. i had all my titers done a few weeks back so i am good on everything (except for the mmr). so now i just await my packet to see my list of books and other things like uniforms, shoes, etc. i sure hope they don't take too long getting us the information for estrella!

Anyone else apply to NAU/GCC concurrent program this week?
That's so exciting. I printed the health info off the maricopa nursing website so I have been working on my health stuff the last month or so. I am pretty much just waiting on the packet with class list, books, and required materials/supplies. I sure hope Estrella gets our packets out soon! Does the schedule you posted include the NAU class as well?

Wow, how did you get your schedule so fast? Did they mail it to you? I am still waiting to hear from Estrella about our schedule but am hoping it is similar to yours!

Is there time limit for prerequisites for Maricopa community colleges?
I also had pre-reqs from 10 years ago that they used. I was told they never expire. So you should be good!

Anyone else apply to NAU/GCC concurrent program this week?
jhunold, Thanks for the congrats! I still can't believe it's real. From what a friend of mine was told (she was accepted also and has a lower gpa than mine) from a lady at Estrella Mountain, as long as you put GCC down your application was automatically sent over to Estrella Mountain (since it was not even an option when we applied). I am SURE you will be getting an email soon with your high GPA! I will be looking for your "I GOT IN" post!!!! And good luck to all who have applied and awaiting an email :redpinkhe

Anyone else apply to NAU/GCC concurrent program this week?
Just wanted to come back and update......!!!!!!!! I received an email last night that I was accepted to the NAU program through Estrella Mountain Community College!!!!! Apparently Glendale Community College got so many applications that the Maricopa County Schools decided to open up a cohort at Estrella Mountain. I am soooooo excited!!!!! I should be receiving a packet in the mail within 4-5 weeks but need to get registered to NAU right away to sign up for the first intro to nursing class this summer. YAY!!!!! I just can't believe it!!!!

Anyone else apply to NAU/GCC concurrent program this week?
I am actually taking my last pre-req right now, BIO205. But I am not too worried about not being completed. The NAU advisor I spoke with said that each Maricopa County Community College has their own way to choose applications and some schools it doesn't matter if all pre-reqs are done. And I know GCC is one of those buy an email from a nursing advisor. I can't remember exactly what my HESI was (my stuff is at home and I am at work) but I know my math was 100 and my english was right around 90. I am right there with you; one minute I think I don't stand a chance, then the next minute I think overall my scores are competitive at least since it's a new program. However I have decided if I don't get in I am going to retake some classes this summer that I took waaaaayyyyyy back in the late 90's when I was fresh out of high school and didn't think my grades mattered as long as I passed. That way I can up my GPA for next application period. If I only knew then what I know now.....(((sigh))) . I think I read on here from the last semester that people got it with lower GPA than ours so I am still hanging onto some hope and am praying that between my GPA and HESI score that I will have a good enough rubric to make it in (fingers crossed)!

That is an awesome gpa! I sure hope we find out wIthin a week! Then I won't have to keep checking my email several times a day ;-). What was your HESI score since that plays a factor in the rubric as well?

Anyone else apply to NAU/GCC concurrent program this week?
Just wondering if anyone else applied to the program this past week. If so, maybe post your gpa and what school choices you listed and update when you find out if you got accepted. I would like to have others to "talk" with while we drive ourselves crazy waiting to hear if we got in!My gpa is 3.6 and I applied to gcc and mcc (gcc was first choice).

Should I take Patho if it's optional?
I am hoping to get some advice and opinions on whether or not I should take a Patho class that is not mandatory. I will be starting my nursing school soon through a Community College for my associates degree and upon completion, plan on transferring to a University for a BSN bridge program. The Community College program has Patho integrated into the program, and therefore, it is not mandatory we take a separate class for Patho. On one hand, I feel I should take Patho because I am sure it could help me better understand things when I actually start nursing school. But on the other hand, wonder if I NEED an entire separate class if it's already "included" with my nursing classes. So I guess I am looking for opinions to see what others think or what others have done that have the same options.

Freaking out about BIO201...Please Help!
Thank you all so much for your responses and advice. Last week I went to the college book store and purchased the BIO156 book. I am reading and studying it on my own; my own little "refresher course" . I plan on finishing it within the next week to take my assessment exam. My BIO201 class won't be starting until June so I will probably read the book again in May, just to keep the information fresh in my head. I am keeping my fingers crossed I do decent on the assessment so I won't look like an idiot sighing up for 201.

Freaking out about BIO201...Please Help!
BIO201 is the last class I need to take in order to apply to the nursing program. I want to take it ASAP, which means a Summer 1 Class in June. I went to a nursing seminar last night and it was stressed that BIO201 is a tough class. So now I am nervous about taking it during summer. I will be working 20-30 hours a week while attending this summer class. The class is 4 days a week, 5 hours a day (lecture and lab) and runs for the month of June. Please give me some insight on how tough the class is/isn't. Should I take BIO156 first sincs it's been over 10 years since I had Biology in high school? Or can I get thru 201 without it?

Questions - Banner Boswell/Mesa CC Vs. Glendale Comm College
I have recently decided to return to school to pursue my Nursing degree. I have most of my pre-req's and co-req's already completed from 10 years ago (I really only need my bio classes). The only class I need to complete before I can apply for the nursing program, is BIO 201, which I plan on taking over the summer. I have a few questions about the Banner Boswell/Mesa program and the Glendale Comm College Program. 1. Is there any main differences between the programs or are they the same? 2. Do I need to meet with an Advisor from each school? 3. Do I need to apply to each? I read somewhere you have to apply to the Banner Boswell program in addition to applying at the community college. 4. I read that Banner employees and family members have "extra" slots available to them. Is this true? If so, is it true that the slots are available at both places? Does it pertain to family members or just Banner employees (my husband is an employee of Banner Estrella Medical Center)? 5. Any info you can give me about either program would be helpful! I am so excited to start pursuing my nursing degree again. As I said before, I took alot of my pre-req classes when I graduated high school. Much to my regret now, I stopped pursuing my degree because I was offered an Office Manager job, making good money. Here I am, 10 years later, regretting my decision and returning to finish my schooling. Although I get so upset at myself for quitting school all that time ago, I feel I am 100% ready to return and feel I will get more out of it than I would have back then. As I told my husband a few weeks ago, nothing is going to stop me this time!
