Any SLU graduate school students out there?
Hi, I am applying to the SLU Master's in Nursing program for the Spring semester. For those of you who are already in the program, can you speak to how strict they are on the 3 year work experience requirement? I easily meet all the other criteria but don't have the 3 years yet. I talked to the admissions office and they made it sound like it wasn't that big of a deal and that I still had a good chance to be accepted. Any idea?

SLU Accelerated MSN Program
Yes, they do have one. I might have worded it wrong..it's an RN to MSN program (they have a BSN to MSN program if your degree is in nursing) but if you have a degree in another field you can go directly into the RN to MSN. I meet all the selection criteria except the 3 years experience, so I was just curious if anyone that's attended the program had any information. Thanks for your reply.

There seems to be no jobs for a new graduate nurse
Sorry to hear of your problems Joseph, I still haven't been able to find anything either. It's becoming a serious issue. I just can't understand this..I see so many job postings. I guess they either aren't really hiring all those positions are they aren't hiring GN's. Sometimes I wonder if they are even reading my resume or if they just see my name at the top and toss it aside because I'm male. I feel like I have a lot to offer in this profession and it's really hard to not even be acknowledged. :lol_hitti

SLU Accelerated MSN Program
Hi, I'm looking for some feedback/information from anyone who is attending or has attended the SLU MSN program (specifically the accelerated program for someone who has a BS in another area). I have a BS in sociology, an ADN and have a couple years experience as an LPN. I really don't want to wait any longer to get my MSN but I don't have a ton of experience. Can anyone comment on my chances of getting into the program with these credentials? I will be working full time as an RN while in school as well so am interested to know how the demands are for the program and if it's feasible to work full time. Thanks in advance for your help.

Nursing Reality shock?
It's Me, thanks for your encouragement. And, yes, I have been in practice as an LPN for the last 2 years and just got my RN this December (I don't have a BSN, my bachelors is in Sociology). I had a great experience at my job as an LPN and really enjoy being a nurse. I would hate to think it's related to discrimination but I'm starting to wonder since it seems my resume isn't even getting a second look. I thought I might have a slight disadvantage because I'm going up against people that have BSN's but I was hoping my LPN experience would somewhat makeup for that. Although I was an LPN, I basically did the job of an RN where I worked and I feel very confident about my skills. If I don't find something soon I will probably have to settle for some random job that I dislike.

New grad looking for work
I will second the notion that it's really hard to find a job right now. I am a recent GN and have been looking for 3 months in St. Louis but gotten absolutely nothing. I even have almost 2 years experience as an LPN where I basically did an RN's job. I take my NCLEX next Tuesday and hope that might make me look a little more attractive to potential employers since they won't have to wait for me to pass the test.

Nursing Reality shock?
I too worked very hard to get my RN and am now frustrated because I can't even get a job. I have a bachelor's, associates, PCT, LPN, and RN license and yet I get no response to any jobs. And I recently moved to St. Louis no less, where there are tons of hospitals! I have called nurse recruiters, sent numerous followups, even applied for positions that aren't necessarily in the areas I like because I desperately need a job. It's hard to accept that I worked all these years and now can't even be gainfully employed.

There seems to be no jobs for a new graduate nurse
I am in a similar situation, I am a male nurse who just graduated and I have found it impossible to find a job in St. Louis. I even have experience as an LPN but that has not seemed to help me. I see so many job postings for RN's yet I get no response on any of my applications. I have gotten a few calls from recruiters but then I don't ever hear back so I try to reach them and they never return my emails or calls. I am very frustrated and really need to find a job. If anyone knows of any leads, I would be so appreciative.
