It all depends on how dedicated you are and how much time you can allow to work on school. I just completed 20 credit hours this past quarter with straight A's. I also have 4 children, but do not have a job. It wasn't easy, but is possible. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the info. I just really want an online program, and everyone I've talked to has said that it is extremely hard to do. But I think it's a good choice for me. I never pay attention in lecture; I teach myself with the materials I have. So, hopefully it will be a good choice. Think I will call them tomorrow to get the ball rolling. Again, thanks!

Not many hospitals hire LPNs, although Children's Hospital and Mt. Carmel currently have some LPN positions available. Also Chalmers P Wiley VA in Columbus. Hope this helps.

May I ask why you will be attending campus after this semester? I am interested in Chamberlain's online LPN to RN program. What do you think of the program so far? And where are clinicals? Thanks so much!

Bittypie, just curious what it was like for you finding a job after graduating. I'm a couple weeks away from graduation from the same campus. Are you looking for an RN program? I'm not sure yet what I plan on doing. One second I plan on staying at Hondros, and the next I'm looking for online programs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Well, if you have plenty of time to study while at work, then that might be doable. I was able to do a little studying while at work, but I ended up still being exhausted and burnt out. I'm not sure what campus you are considering; I go to Westerville. First term was 3 days a week until the 5th week and then was 5 days. 2nd term ?? can't remember. Third term was 3 days a week, but the most difficult. Fourth term is 5 days a week, but one day is only a couple hours.

I HIGHLY do not recommend it. I have 4 kids and worked full time for the first 5 months. You end up crash studying and won't retain anything you studied for; which definitely won't help you when it comes time to take the HESI before you graduate. I maintained As and Bs the entire time, but its definitely is not worth it. Term 3 & 4 will definitely be difficult even working part time. I hope you have a ton of support from other family. If you have this, then it might be doable for you. My husband has picked up a ton of slack, and without him I wouldn't have made it. I wish you luck!!!

Thank you! Well, at least they're telling you something! We've had so many different stories from the government changing software to them having to redo everyone's financial aid packages. I called financial aid today and was told that the gov't has used the same software for 10 years and it's not a problem on the government's end. I have everything but the pell grant, and unfortunately I have no numbers to call on that. What worried me was that the lady I talked to today at financial aid said that the only problem she could think that would have delayed the funds being disbursed was a school licensing issue. Hopefully I'll see something soon! Thanks again!

Hey all! I'm at Hondros in Columbus. Was wondering if any of you are experiencing the same problems with financial aid. According to the disbursement schedule, pell grants should have been disburses around July 8 and loans around July 22. I received the loans, but am still waiting on the pell grant. Some others haven't had anything posted, and they keep giving different stories. Anyone know what is really going on?

Not all schools require it. I go to Hondros in Westerville; you don't need to be an STNA. You can however test to be an STNA after your first term if you decide to, which leads me to my question. Anyone know where you can test for the STNA other than D&S? I can't get in to test until September with them. I have searched online without luck. All I need to do is take the test. I need to classes. Thanks!

Mitchsa, clinicals aren't exactly exciting. The first day was a bit shocking to us. You will see things you don't agree with as far as the people working in the long term care facilities. I don't really know of anyone who is enthusiastic about being in a nursing home. My best advice; you will learn quite a bit if you are an active learner. If you're a passive learner you won't get very much out of clinicals. You will have certain things you will be checked off on. But really it will be beneficial if you volunteer to help out other nurses and STNAs. They will be the ones to show you great techniques and let you experience more than if you just take care of your patients. Some of us would answer call lights in our spare time and also help out some of the STNAs. That is where I gained the most experience. It's pretty basic stuff the first quarter. Only you will decide how much you get out of it by your willingness to learn. Just don't let the first couple of days freak you out. No one had a great experience. But by the time it was over, many of us were comfortable and plan on returning to visit the residents we took care of. And I've heard that all the instructors were great. One of them was a little overboard with what she wanted done, but I'm sure those students may be better at writing nursing notes and assessments than I am. Good luck! Study your tail off. I saw too many ppl busting butt at the end just to pass. The more you know, the better you'll be when you start your nursing career!

Hello Mitchsa. 60 students usually start out, but I guarantee you that not all 60 students will make it. Within the first 2 weeks, we had people who dropped out, and now we have some that didn't pass. You will notice that with scheduling, the first 2 terms have 3 different labs, and by the 3rd term, there are only 2 labs. As long as you have decent grades and attendance, you should have absolutely no problem getting into the RN program. If you barely squeak by, then that would be a different story. First term starts out easy, but when you start your clinicals, you'll be going 5 days a week. Still not too bad, if you're not working.

Good luck Chris. I don't go to Bohecker, but these last 5 weeks, I was going to school 5 days a week and averaging over 30 hours working. It sucks, but it is possible, especially if you have supportive people around you who are willing to help out. Oh, and I have 4 children, my youngest is only 8 months old. GOOD LUCK!

Anyone know when and how we can take the STNA test? Is it after we complete clinicals or after we receive our final grades?

I attend Hondros in Columbus and have no complaints. Instructors are better than I could ask for and very knowledgeable. Well, one of our teachers isn't the brightest, but overall it has been a great experience. I think the important thing to look for is accreditation. After that, it's really up to you with what you get out of your education and what you put into it.

No you don't have to be an LPN. They offer both portions of the program; LPN & RN. Both programs together are about 2 1/2 years. LPN - 1 year, RN - 1 1/2.

I attend Hondros in Columbus. I started clinicals last week and I don't really have any negative issues so far with my experience at all. I'm doing rather well; I have a 3.8 GPA. I do study rather hard. There are many though, that do not take time to study and are not doing so well. It's all what you put into it. Good luck with your decision!

Don't know what happened to my last post. I'm not sure I understand your question. Hondros offers both portions. If you are already an LPN, you can apply directly for the RN portion. Both programs combined are pretty much the same length of time you would find anywhere else to receive your ADN in nursing. It allows flexibility for those who only want their LPN. After the LPN portion, you can choose to go straight into the RN portion, or stop and work as an LPN once you pass your boards. Just know that because you were in the LPN portion, does not mean you will be accepted into the RN portion. You have to reapply, and they will look at your attendance, grades, etc. Hope this helps answer your question.

Thanks so much! I am so ready to go! I scheduled to where I start out going only 3 days a week, and on Tuesdays I have a 4 hour block where I'll do nothing but study in between classes. So that will be a huge help not having the kids around. Can't lie. I am nervous. It's been a long time.

Okay. So I thought I was told that the syllabus would be available on Cams at least by this past Monday. Only one was available today, which was Bio. Can someone give me the heads up on what I should expect to take with me for the first day of school. I already plan on taking my books for Bio. I just don't want to show up without what I need. And should I expect to take any other supplies? Thanks a bunch!

You would benefit by attending their info session as soon as you can. If you visit the website for Hondros College there will be a list of the time and dates. The earlier you do it, the better chance you have of starting in July. When I went in February, they could only guarantee a July start, and they've had more info sessions since then. I think they only accept around 60 students per term. About the transcripts; in the booklet they gave us, it said to take them to the interview. However, it didn't seem like he expected them when I was there, but I offered a copy anyway.
